| 10/20. Really shouldn't have missed this one when I was doing the original survey of Tumps. Parked on road to W where ROW leaves it, then across to the minor summit and N up to the main summit. | Frequently ascended the lower castle hill on circular walks from Upper Brailes. This time walked up from the village hall car park over the lower hill and on to the top through a gap in the hedge next to a small spinney. | From Upper Brailes up to Castle Hill earthworks, a few local dogwalkers up there, then via gate into top pasture- Stockwell Spinney, for the HP. The lower top is the better, with a fine view of the splendid church in Lower Brailes, and will remain the popular objective I'm sure. recently cut. Flat top, but visited the options. | 3rd tump of 11 on a 46.3km traverse from Goldicote bus. park to Banbury climbing Rough Hill and Idlicote hill, continuing S on fp past Pen Covert to St Denis farm, then SE just over Tus Brook into Upper Brailes, taking the aptly named Castle Hill lane then up via gates to pasture summit,recently mown. I recorded 173m @ SP 30707 40312SP, 30711 40313. Fairly level. | Last of a 9-Tump day from Manchester. Parked to SE up footpath through long grass from Castle Hill Lane. From col into top field (over bar and under wire). A few faint tracks in the top long grass. | A lovely 7 km 3 Tump circular walk/ jog from Lower Brailes partially replicating the annual Brailes 3 hills walk: Mine Hill, Brailes Hill, Castle Hill. This last being a potential P30 tump I spotted from close contour study and since confirmed as a Tump. the top is set back away from the popular dog walkers row which visits the lower but more prominent mound upon which the castle presumably once stood, that gave the hill its name. I had to fend off a dog (on the row) which bit my shoe and firmly request the owner put it on its lead - NOW PLEASE! | Chris Pearson | 27/03/2019 |
