From Lllanfachreth car park. Rhobell Fawr then out and back of Dduallt before completing circular route. (Also visited Rhobell Fawr Weat Top) Great walk but the route up and down Dduallt was very rough going. Solo | Dan Baddeley | 03/09/2023 |

From Lllanfachreth car park. Nice path by school then rough ground to Cerniau West Top, Moel y Llan (also visited top of similar height), Cerniau (also visited top of similar height). Headed roughly NE contouring and then over to Rhobell Ganol and Rhobell-big and back to climb Rhobell Fawr and Cynefin Bryn Blew [Rhobell Fawr West Top], down ridge to rejoin outward route. Warm and sunny. | RobertP | 27/05/2023 |
Drove up from South, through three gates, parked just off the tarmac where it ends at junction of forest roads: Cynefin Bryn Blew [Rhobell Fawr West Top], Rhobell Fawr and Dduallt. Claggy start which cleared for lovely clear views on a warm afternoon. Pub tea in Bala afterwards. | Lazylizzie | 07/05/2023 |

Parked at the top of the lane through Rhydymain at SH796232 where there is a gate and parked next to the old building. We walked up through the farm land to the forest and then turned left at SH795244 then as a path leads off the forestry track head up there over a stile and then a stream, head up the hill a little to reach a track. Headed west along the track to SH791247 then straight up along the fence over some rocks then we just made a bee line for the summit over easy ground and wow what a view from the summit, one of my favorite's! To head down we cam back to a stile at SH789258 then headed straight down via a path besides a fence right down to the forestry track | haylesb | 17/09/2022 |
Heading south from Dduallt, I headed down towards the fence line along the forest, continue along here where they once was a forest, the fence takes a 90o right turn, follow it along and in the corner is a stile, go across this and head northwest up through the forest, this area is very boggy, unfortunately I had approach shoes which was a big mistake, there is a sign in the forest pointing left and this will eventually bring you out on a track, go left for about 500 yards and there is a path on your right, follow this up a very steep ascent over two walls, after the second wall, go left and you will find the trig point at the top, great views from up here.Descend north following the wall and head northeast towards the edge of the forest, this area is pathless and very boggy, I aimed for the edge of the forest and kept the river to my right all the way down to the original path I started on.
This was a nice walk, approx. 10 miles, but very boggy even though I walked this after a long | Buckleymon | 26/08/2022 |
From halfway up driveable tarmac Road on South, that says unsuitable for motor vehicles. | vegibagger | 12/06/2022 |
Left the car at the end of the minor road north of Rhobell y big 78802 29243,and followed the ROW to east of summit and then the fun began mostly pathless over Rhobell y big, Rhobell Ganol, Rhobell fawr, Moel Cae'r defaid west & east top and Dduallt. A note of warning the return to the car after dropping off the last summit due north to ford the river, if this is in spate the crossing can be a difficult wide crossing with slippery stones, I got caught out and tried using the south bank to return, This is not advised instead it would probably be best to try and return through the forest near Foel Gron although this could be also be tricky. Nine and half miles in Seven and half hours(GPS suggested Five hours). | WAYNE ROWLETT | 04/06/2022 |
Drove up from South, through three gates, parked just off the tarmac where it ends at junction of forest roads. No signs saying not to do so, and passing 4x4 vehicle didn't stop. Lovely 50 minutes walk to summit. Onwards to Moel Cors-y-garnedd for a nice 2 hour round trip. | Minto | 25/05/2022 |
Used the southerly approach on a poor day. Drove up to road end and having climbed Y Dduallt, we ascended the lovely rough Rhobell Fawr with even a little scrambling added in.

From the south, starting at road end gate elevation 310m. Past Caer Defaid and ascended from the south. Descended SE to forestry track, which is paved up to 420m with no apparent objection to driving it. | Topographer57 | 15/07/2021 |
After Moel Siabod in the morning drove round via Dolgellau to climb this from the South. Parked at 797237 before second gate. Up and down in 2 hours, thankful for the two ladder stiles over the walls. | NormanW | 25/05/2021 |
Rhobell Fawr & West top from West. No reasonable parking near Tyddyn-du at the end of the minor road so parked at SH 75681 26118 Hafodowen in a parking area presumably for holiday cottage. Over stile at parking area and ROW across fields to minor road and followed past Tyddyn-du where it turns into a track leading to Bwlch Goriwared. Over stile to left just before sheepfolds and followed track to left of wall with ease to both summits, same return. 3 hour round trip and terrain easier than the map suggests, really isolated and remote feeling mountain and was treated to fog rolling off Aran, Maesglase & Cader Idris in the sunrise. | jacobrichmond | 07/11/2020 |

13.2 mile walk from gated road south, parked in unfenced field at the side of road walked west to Ffridd Carmel farm and along grassy footpath to road north of Llanfachreth followed road to end ascending Bwlch Goriwared, short heathery climb onto Cerniau then followed nice gradual path onto Rhobell Fawr, arrived 3 minutes before the cloud did so got a quick glimpse of the view. We left summit quickly and took wrong path north when we wanted to head east, after a 20 min diversion including climbing down a rockface we descended to the forest below Dduallt, followed the clear firebreaks through to opposite side of forest and made our own rough route up to Dduallt, descended the same way but via a swamp this time back past forest (a lot has been felled) and followed good lane SW back to where we parked. Apart from the cloud coming down on Rhobell Fawr, the rest of the day was fine with high cloud, great views, saw 3 people all day, all on Rhobell Fawr. | DanTrig | 29/09/2018 |

Followed the route in the Nuttalls book from Cwm yr Allt-lwyd. Maybe I'm getting to be a scaredy cat in my old age but I didn't fancy the ford, even though there hadn't been any rain recently. I walked upstream a little to where the stream splits and that was much easier to do and I kept my shoes dry. The other obstacle of the day, the forest, was pretty easy. Weather was glorious so good views all around. | tsharp | 04/06/2017 |

From Llanfachreth taking row, track and path to Rhobell Fawr after diversion to Cerniau, then descended and climbed Rhobell Ganol. From there it was over rough wet ground to Rhobell-y-big before dropping down to Afon Ceirw which was crossed at the wall which neatly took that out of play. The forest tracks to outward route. | SS | 26/12/2016 |
A very easy and pleasant stroll from Llanfachreth school on a nice grassy bridleway, then on the old road to Ffynnon Shon, and over various lumps and bumps to the summit. Amazingly dry going on grassy paths, with wonderful views. | Gill | 27/11/2016 |
Nuttall route + two Deweys. Parked on rough grassy area at SH 78827 29232 beside track that leaves road at sharp bend. Ddaullt > Rhobell Fawr > Cynefin Bryn Blew [Rhobell Fawr West Top] > Rhobell Ganol > Rhobell-y-big. Went through forest using straight firebreak that starts at SH 80385 25697. Make sure you keep going directly west through this firebreak and don't drift off south. The terrain is difficult at first but gets a lot better as long as you keep heading west. | David Gradwell | 24/08/2016 |

Ascended in end of day gloom direct through broken craggy steep ground without difficulty. Two walls to negotiate both with ladder stiles. Continuation of walk from Rhobell Ganol. Walked down to boggy bwlch (better going on west side of fence), then up to join wall heading along summit ridge. Then over ladder stile to summit. To descend, headed north-east to forest edge, then over fence onto forest road. Took this north. At a yellow marker post indicating route of bridleway I decided to continue on the forest road, reckoning it would be easier going. This was a bad mistake. After about a kilometre I found the route totally blocked be a huge tree-fall, which necessitated a wide diversion round through a bog and stream. Yet more tree-falls blocked the route further on. Near Cwm yr Allt-lwyd the forest road petered out, and I was forced to descend through a felled tree area and a difficult crossing of the Nant y Helyg in a little gorge to reach the track in the cwm. Not a route I'd recommend! | Man of Kernow1 | 24/08/2014 |

Trig revisit. Been here many times as is on Meirionnydd Round | RHW | 18/12/2005 |
From Dduallt I dropped down gradually towards the forest the shortest route involving least re-ascent would pass through incredibly dense woodland and was not an option. Instead a path follows the side of the forest downhill to a corner where there is a stile into the woods and a vague track. A tree had fallen across and was impossible to climb over, while circumventing it involved virtually crawling with no guarantee I would find the path again. I did though, and then the trees opened out at a firebreak. Suddenly there was the welcome sight of a broad forest road. Here I passed a forestry vehicle the only human contact since the farmers. The ascent to Rhobell Fawr steeply follows a wall for some 800 feet, once or twice through rocky sections where hands are needed to haul oneself up, and finally the trig point is seen over to the left, reached by a stroll over short grass. The descent was the hardest part, through bog and heather. | peter4lc | 11/07/2005 |

We descended East, following the fence to the track at the bottom of the valley before making our way through cleared area of the forest and up on to the ridge of Dduallt. We climbed North up to the summit before descending, sill Northerly to the ford through the infant river Mawddach. Single top on first visit from the S. Normally combine with Ddualt now and prefer S to Northern Nutall approach as its a much shorter drive for me | Rhayader_wander | 30/10/1988 |
From Llanfachreth. Pleasant approach through farm lands on WDP through a wood to bwylch. Over a stone wall and steady approach up on grass to top at 14.25 | arranc | 08/04/1988 |
Ddualt and Rhobell Fawr from the South | PeterD | 24/05/1987 |
From Dduallt, a great mountain but this wasn't its best side and the going was frustratingly rough through the conifer forest. Then, from Ty newydd y mynydd, up through high pastures, interesting terrain with little knolls and crags to Rhobell Fawr. Descent over a SW Top and over Bwlch Goriwared to Blaen y Glyn. Must have run back along the road as my log says 25 mins! The car was at Cwm yr allt-lwyd, ca. 5km away. | pwheeler | 25/04/1987 |
Walked from Trawsfynydd to ascend. Descended to Dolgellau. | JohnW | 29/10/1985 |
With Richard Denise : From Bala Cottage | dchill | 01/01/1970 |
Several times - first time probably early 1990s. Preferred ascent from SH 767 232. | summitsup | blank |
