From ESE track gate signed Moel y Gwelltyn. Road/track then up tree line from house steeply through the delightful pines. Good views 3/6 | N.Morters | 23/12/2023 |
Parked as others close to a gate at 160275. A short walk on a good track. What a lovely area around the summit with Scots pine dominant but not obstructing the view. Solo. | bolton | 26/05/2021 |
From west, as others. Nice hill. | PGCE | 20/08/2020 |
As others, parked in wide gateway at 1602 2758 & then up road to start of track - Along track past the ruin of what must have been a fairly grand Tyn-y- ffridd - Once Tyddyn Maen came into view, left track & made way over to ridge & then faint path up ridge through open woodland to summit rock. Parked at space by fp at SJ15982755, walked up to track. We met 2 people who lived locally, had a friendly chat and were cheerfully bade on our way up the hill. There seemed to be no concern we were not keeping to ROWs. Gates gave access to the NE top- and gave a very pleasant walk down to Moelfre. We then split up, I went over Gryn Moelfre, Pete back to the car, failing to be able to follow ROWs via Ceunant Du. | pwheeler | 04/05/2019 |
From west on track. A great little hill. Easy to top through old conifers. With B and R. | jenx | 25/11/2018 |

As others from gate to WSW. Unfortunately very misty so no views. Same day as Smudge. | Jim.Fothergill | 23/11/2018 |
Circular from Moelfre Hall with SG - misty. Approach from NE top required a couple of fence hops. | Smudge | 23/11/2018 |
A delightful jog out and back from the road. | Eddie | 24/08/2018 |
Nice walk and splendid hill. Parked by metal gate with f/p sign at SJ 1602.2758. Walked NE up road for 150m to gate on R, through this then pleasant green lane beyond (bluebells and gorse in bloom at moment). Lane curves round to a col just before a house. Straight up steepening hillside into wood at top. | Aye Jimmy | 18/05/2018 |
2/5 solo. Pretty little Hill, with a big rap as a Hump and Sub Marilyn. Nice wooded area near the top. Was perturbed by a dead baby mouse. Took a bit of navigating to find the path to the SW of here to head on to Mynydd y Briw. | tumpawumpa | 15/08/2017 |
5/7 (Gyrn Moelfree/Hen Graig/Cefn Pantglas/Craig Ysgwennant/Moel y Gwelltyn/Mynydd Mawr/Y Glog) | Fergalh | 23/07/2017 |

From WSW. Parking by marked footpath 200m SSW of your unmarked path. Lovely steep summit. | jimbloomer | 20/04/2017 |
From west as others and as lots have said a fantastic hill especially on a sunny clear day. | Rob50 | 02/04/2017 |
Greeted near to the top by a ewe and a pair of very newly born lambs, no more than a couple of hours old. Stunning hill. | Alex C | 14/03/2017 |
One of those do it just because its there hills?. Heck no!.
An absolute belter of a wee hill. Parked near the lakeside and walked up the unsuitable for motors track before heading up to the sub top at point 376m. The Gyrn looks an absolute beast from here and the panorama across Shropshire is Superb.
Climbing up to the main summit area you will bear witness to the power of the wind. Several Trees lie broken however there is a fine stand of Scots Pine around the summit. From certain spots the Aran ridge can be seen. Looked magnificent today gleaming with snow. I descended down the steep and stony semi ridge down to a decent track which led to the ruined hafod of Tyn y ffridd. The view back from here confirming that its been a worthwhile jaunt.
I continued down the track to extend the walk.then walking back down the quiet lane to Moelfre. Gyrn looking particularly impressive from here. Pick a nice day, take your time and enjoy. | stig_nest | 10/02/2016 |
