From clubhouse along buggy track, only the friendly green keepers for company.N.Morters17/01/2020
Start of a Shropshire holiday - From A458 (Layby at Sylfean Halt) - across the fields through the wood and golf course to reach the summit and trig. A Red Kite soars above.briandavies11/10/2019
Friendly greeting at the clubhouse on a day when there were no golfers due to rain and low cloud. Walked the fairways at will to get to the trig.NormanW01/10/2019
a WWW (we welcome walkers). Drove up to clubhouse (interesting in camper, especially meeting car coming down narrow steep road!!!) on Monday when staff are off - no bar or cafe. Go round first hill (anticlockwise) and then follow ridge. As I was going up, a greenkeeper coming down in buggy came across and was fully welcoming. The 18th is not for the faint-hearted - as you come down, take a look at the last tee before descending - across a col to the lower hill and then up it. A snorter of a final hole!henryfm16/09/2019
Welshpool - Upper Park - Pen-y-foel - Y Golfa - Welshpool.Mark Jackson26/08/2019
Up through beautiful estate and well marked. Felt slightly surreal as I neared the top sweating, puffing and panting to hear voices and “whack” as we passed folk playing a sedate game of golf.elizyanne01/08/2019
Parked at Sylfaen Halt layby, then along the road to Barn Farm. Up onto the hill, great views, back down via the footpath at the W end.DanMaisieBex22/06/2019
From Welshpool parked in Brook St followed Glydwr’s way a tarmac private drive that starts a few metres from the roundabout on A490. Good views over the golf course. No golfers just greenkeepers.rogreeves17/10/2018
Break on journey from home to Mid-Wales. Short walk to the summit from Club House after using the cafe.Winterfloodian16/05/2018
Parked at lay-by near Sylfaen halt (narrow gauge railway - no trains today). Golf course a bit of a culture shock - access land however. Nice gorse summit.ger01/05/2018
On way home from three day Welsh trip with Smithy & Shaky. More iffy weather so quick ascent from golf clubhouse car park where, as others have noted, you get a friendly welcome & some banter! The golfers were streaming off Y Golfa (pun intended) towards the clubhouse as the rain worsened (with every one without exception giving us a cheery greeting) but there was still a great view at the summit, reached by following access tracks & then the edge of a fairway. The 11th hole, whose tee is near the summit, is named Five Counties & I could believe that, for even on a murky day, the view was extensive.NotReallyABagger24/04/2018
Last hill on 4 day's walking trip. Delightful view- the big, snow clad mts of S. Snowdonia, Arenig Fawr but unlike any other hills on the trip, included Delamere Forest and the Peak District. The golf club's welcoming noticeboard mentioned how wonderful the view was. My good walk, from the clubhouse, was however unspoiled! Just 2 golfers out on a cold Wednesday afternoon with the light starting to fade.pwheeler07/02/2018
From A458 layby near Sylfaen halt, got to summit just after sunset. No golfers this late in the day.Tony J16/12/2017
From the Golf Club car park. Very friendly people there, no problems parking and helpful with giving directions.Gill02/11/2017

From the CH. Great place for golf. Cadair Idris and the Aran ridge in sight.huwthomas26/08/2016
With Trefor. Steep pull up to golf course then on to summit. 4th of 5 Marilyns today.mike.hoult12/05/2016
I also started from the nasty layby A458 near Sylfaen Halt. The road is like a straight section of a Grand Prix circuit with frustrated motorists taking their opportunity to overtake. Take care. Nice walk up hill, past house then almost double back on yourself and use tracks across golf course. Just one narrow fairway to cross near top. Lovely views again on a fine blustery day.Father Ted10/04/2016
pm walk starting from layby A458 near Sylfaen Halt. Same start point for am walk up Upper Park, with hindsight should have done both walks at same time. Took footpath on other side of road to open access land then followed path up fairly steep hill to golf course. Headed for high point alongside fairways crossing when absolutely necessary, turning right at 16th tee to final ascent to trig. Return due south and after steep diagonal descent followed path east to fp back to layby and van.SteveSmith24/02/2016
From roadside parking on Brook St in Welshpool, we simply followed Glydwr's way as far as the trig. This keeps out of the way of golfers, but there weren't any out in the wind and showers anyway.TeasyChris29/01/2016
From Golf Club car park across course (very quiet) and back again. Must play the course sometime (but not in wind).SS10/01/2016
Revisit to make sure of the high point after having passed by on Glyndwr's Way in 2008.Alex C06/01/2016
Third Marilyn of the day. Sat out hailstorm before asking permission to park at the clubhouse which was readily given. Pleasant stroll to the top.SteveG13/11/2015

As part of Owen Glyndower route from Meiford. Great location for a gold course. Pity I don't like golftrimarc230/09/2015
Well named. Parked at Sylfaen station on the A458 and walked up path opposite into the busy golf(a)course. Not sure where the right of way goes through the fairways but every one was friendly and helpful.mindlessflogger21/03/2015
W Jenx from Golf CH. Easy and ok parking. Followed track and RoW to col between two hills, then directed by players up main path along ridge. Joins Glyndwrs path to trig and nearby summit in short gorse. Glorious crisp winter day. Golfers friendly.nordicstar13/12/2014
On the last stage of Glyndwr Way.ruthatlast25/10/2014
No problems parking at golf course clubhouse, and what a golf course it is. Located the trig point and operated for SOTA from there on VHF.G4OBK (Phil)12/08/2014
Parked in the layby at Sylfaen station. The footpath directly opposite to the woods and then through and over the golf course. With GB.bolton06/08/2014

From the north, using Glyndwr way to get to top legally and avoiding golf halls. Good parking to East of path leaving road.PeteN30/05/2014
