Last one of the day, a bot of a boggy walk across the grassy moorland with a few bogs to get through, rewarded with another great view of most of the ranges around, carried onto Maes Du and came straight down towards the road to complete a circular route.Buckleymon01/09/2023

From mapped roadside parking area to NNE (SH 8021 1702). Good track leads up to Cribin Fawr first, then a divert across to Waun-oer before getting back on track to Craig Portas, its E Top and then across to here. On to Maen Du before a steep descent.jonglew16/10/2022
Barry's final Welsh Marilyn, with large group, whisky and cake. Small cairn on levelish grassy summit. Grey but dry, with clear views. We descended NW over steep grass to ascend Ochr y Bwlch after visiting E summit.Denise 16/10/2022

From Dinas Mawddwy, from a lay-by on the A470,steep initial ascent through the forest on a good track with steps, then open hillside crossing awkward ground to Bwlch Siglen. Steep ascent to the left of falls to the escarpment. Past the Devil's Point and followed the rim of steep cliffs all the way to Maen Du. Made short diversion eastwards to Craig Rhiw-erch (true summit), marked by very small cairn. Returned bu North East spur from Maen Du, track marked on map, non existent, extremely steep grassy slopes down to a bwlch before MoelCwm yr Eglwys, skirted this to the right on a good track all the way down to Ty'n -y-celyn and the A470, about 3km roadside verge walking back to the car. 5 hours total time, overcast but good visibility, didn't see a single other person on the hill.Marksalop15/04/2022
From the layby on the A470 SH 839 162 along the RoW to the S (somewhat obtructed by fallen trees) through the farm, and onto the permissive path towards the access land (signed). Up the track then path marked on the 1:25K OS up the S flank of Moel Cwm yr Eglwys the path which, once beyond the bwlch is there but fairly indistinct on the ground. Small cairn (near to) the top. Returned direct down the nose of Maen Du down the fence line (very steep). Met the farmer with three hand reared lambs on return.sebastiencale14/04/2022
From car park at top of pass, followed path over Cribin Fwar, then dogleg out to Waun-oer, back to stile below Cribin Fawr, followed path and fence line to Craig Portas then onto Maesgkase. Decent over Maen Du down NE ridge, then PROW to A470. Where 2nd car parked.7.6miles, 3hr 40 walking, 2348ft ascent. Really pleasant walk with added excitement of some snow showers.JulieB04/01/2022
South from car park on A470 at top of pass. Found a good path west of crags, in Scotland I would have called it a stalkers' path, all the way up to the wall, much shorter than the path to the east and easy going. Then along the wall over Cribin Fawr to Waun-oer, back a short way to drop easily down to forest track, followed to end and then an easy line back up to fence, Craig Portas and Maen Du. Dropped down to Penintag Uchaf and back on road. Afternoon pleasant walk along the fences to Pen y Brynfforchog.dickscroop11/11/2021
Parked at milkstand and walked 500m back along A470 to Ty'n-y-celyn and tracks to Maen Du and summit. Returned by Craig Maesglase to admire cwm and waterfall.lordtonult19/09/2021

Afternoon hike with my brother and his 3 children in >25° heat. Climbing from car park at Ochr y Bwlch to Cribin Fawr (659m), then making a dog-leg to Waun-oer (670m), before following horse-shoe ridge round to Maen Du (674m) on Maesglase. Maesglase & Maen Du - Dyfi Hills. Parked on A470 large lay-by at SH 82643 16350 at Pont Buarth-Glas. SE over rickety fence onto hillside and followed the W side of the stream cutting through the LHS of Craig Buarth-Glas, extremely steep requiring lots of pulling on vegetation, collapsing ledges and loose rock, exciting. Up to fence and Moel cwm yr Eglwys then ridge and path to Maen Du and fence to Maesglase summit. Descended NW spur of Maen Du to around 450m then steeply down bracken and grass to cross Nant y Cae at 270m and easy pastures to gate onto A470 just W of lay-by. A really impressive mountain, tough from the north with sustained slopes of 45 degrees.jacobrichmond22/11/2020
from A470 to east, up beautiful cwm to Bwlch Siglen and along cliff tops to Maen Du, then west to main summit and down via steep NE ridge of Maen Du.IanHHill11/10/2020

Parked on the minor road opposite the one leading up to Ty'n-y-braich and climbed up the Bwlch Siglen for the experience of the clifftop walk to the summit. Followed fence SE from summit back to the forest and down to the car. Not the shortest route but enjoyable.NormanW11/09/2020

From the east, parking on minor road NE of Tyn y Celyn, then marked path directly to summit. Local symbols show this as an access path but it passes directly between TC and its garden. A barking dog alerted a local resident who was pleasant enough and said it was up to me, but advised me to go another way as the way forward was very steep and not advised by national park. Any other route would have been much longer so I pointed out the access sign and continued. A grassy track led up to 400m but then became little more than an animal track, but the only seriously steep ground, near the top, was bypassed.Topographer5727/08/2019
From Craig Portas, fine grassy hill, rain had stopped. A long day of following fence lines! Decided to descend via the waterfall.DanMaisieBex03/08/2019
This was our second attempt at this summit. Last year we followed the Nuttalls Walk, nice and easy up and through a shady forest. Then we emerged into the hot sun. Water supplies got low by the second summit and I became light headed ... dehydration, so we headed downhill. So this time where to park for a shorter walk. Decided on a lay-by on the A470, Not show on OS maps, but 2km NW from Dinas Mawddwy . Lay by seemed part of old road, under trees and very little used. OS 849 164. Track directly from lay by. But little used with fallen trees and the map was cluttered and hard to follow. Didn’t seem to be a good starting point. Eventually we were heading SW up the valley and followed the path. In hind shift it might have been better to continue west to the fence and walk along that. Eventually we got to the summit - Craig Rhiw - Erch. Then back to Maen Du, over the stile and follow a twisty path steeply down. (OS maps phone app very useful confirming we were going in the rMalcvolm01/06/2019

Solo. From lay-by on A470 near Dinas Mawddy ( approx GR 857149). Steeply up through forest then long contour to Bwlch Siglan. Up path running parallel to edge of forest then around escarpment to Maen Du. On to flat summit of Maesglas. Descended following fence SE then rejoined outward route. Great weather. Poor paths and slow walking . Took longer than expected.mike.hoult22/10/2018

12 Mile walk from top of pass, followed good path onto Cribin Fawr and its unmarked summit, then down and steeply up onto Waun-Oer and its trig, back onto Cribin Fawr, down fenceline and along hillside path to Mynydd Dolgoeds featureless summit, then nice ridge walk onto another two featureless summits, Craig Portas and its East Top, then onto the big bulk of Maesglase to its cairned top, we then walked back to Cribin Fawr and down to the pass, after a break, steeply ascended Pen Ochr Y Bwlch and its unmarked top, then up onto Pen Y Brynfforchog where we tried to rebuild the fallen down pile of stones on top, returned to the pass, mostly sunny with the odd cloud banks touching the surrounding summitsDanTrig06/07/2016

Heavy morning rain slow to clear replaced by gradually clearing skies with good visibility. Strong wind became stronger almost blowing me off my feet on many occasions. Parked in car park near 363m spot height on A470. Cribin Fawr->Waun-oer->Craig Portas->Craig Portas East Top->Maesglase->Maesglase (old GR) - Maen Du. Only 7.83 miles but comparatively a lot of ascent at 964m. No wonder felt tired on final walk back to van along A470 from Penantigi Isaf. Better to park near milepost to reduce final walk back to van.mntainman09/03/2016

Nice walk up to Bwlch Siglen in torrential rain, with a bit of dodging around unmarked footpaths. Fabulous views of the valley while walking round Craig Maesglase, until close to the top. Along the ridge to Cribin Fawr, and warm sunshine by Craig Portas. Nice peat hags and mossy tussocks on C. Fawr. Down the track towards Penantig Uchaf, which soon gets lost in bracken. Back via Pont Buarth-glas (unmarked footpaths theme continues) and the track on the N side of the A470.Gill22/08/2015

From Bwlch Oerddrws, via Cribin Fawr. new and old summits visited as the guide book I had still showed old summit as top. New summit now has small cairn. freezing conditions lots of rime. Including Waun Oer distance 10 milesisabelle16/02/2008
Summit now has a small cairn on it. Came over from Cribin Fawr and then back again not realising that I could have got down to the A470 from here probably.Father Ted16/12/2007

Up Maesglase old summit on path from A470 NE, new summit, Cribin Fawr and descent N to the car park. With Jo using 2 cars. Galltywenallt20/08/2006
From Waun-oer I retraced my steps almost as far as Cribin Fawr before turning south-east for the undulating yet relatively easy stroll to Maesglase, much closer than it looked. Nuttalls disagree with Dawson – they have the summit at Craig Rhiw-erch, where there is a cairn, and a few yards further on at the lip of the hill the ground plunges 500 metres to a farm. This would have been a good point to rest but for the flies, so I wandered over to the traditional summit, Maen Du, flat and marked by a couple of wooden poles in the ground.peter4lc03/07/2006

Start ~ 801170, Bwlch Oerddrws. Took the path that winds its way up through the crags at Craig y Bwlch and passing the small quarry workings arrives at Cribin Fawr. Descended SE to pass over Craig Portas and its East Top before climbing up on to Maesglase. Continued to Maen Du before retracing route. With KT.steve hudson28/09/2003
This was a steady climb with good views to the north especially on leaving Craig Portas. There was good views of Cadair Idris and the Arans from the top.garyhoney21/07/2002

Have to return as its moved since then. Returned. If you come from Dinas M or similar make sure you walk all the way to the top of forest at Bwlch Siglen where there is a fence and 'path'. Cross country is VERY hard. Guess which way I went? Was a killer.destaylor01/06/1993

Had this splendid range to myself on a sunny, hazy day. My route was: Bwlch Llyn Bach- Mynydd Ceiswyn- Waun-oer- Cribib Fawr- Craig Portas- Craig Rhiw-erch- Maesglase- Bwlch Siglen- Dinas Mawddwy. Grassy ridges, with some walking above dark broken crags and waterfalls, then descent via Maen Du (qv for descent route). Run back to the car on A roads. Back in 1987, the A470 wasn't so busy but the view of the Maesglase mountains was the same, essentially, compelling you to walk on them. 5.4 h walk gave time for breaks, photos, then 75 min run back, with another 1000 ft ascent, to get the car; max fitness, too, I guess, around 1987. Breezy on ridges, warm in valleys. Later visit going on all Nuttalls with brother, Pete. Goodbirdwatching included redstarts and pied flycatchers in the valleys.pwheeler24/04/1987
