From Great Rhos trig pillar a good track through the heather joins the public footpath to the north. Good paths all the way to the mast on Black Mixen. With Jill.Dangerous Dave07/02/2024
Parked in the car park by the school in New Radnor, as it was the school holidays. Knowle Hill, Whimble, Bache Hill, Black Mixen, Great Rhos, Nyth-grug, Mynd and The Smatcher. Warm but overcast with a breeze on top. With Gillianrichard6907/08/2023

2nd top on a 15 mile solo walk from New Radnor to Kington. Revisit after the horror of Great Creigiau, this one is so much easier. Sad that the Bronze Age barrow is getting so badly damaged by motorbikes. Still a lovely spot in the sun though. Onwards to Bache Hill.thesweetcheat08/10/2022
Easy path from Bache Hill. Continued to Great Rhos.Nick Canute02/09/2022
From Great Rhos, stayed up on the plateau around the N end of Harley Dingle near Shepherd's Well. There are paths, though not marked on the OS map. Very similar to Great Rhos. Plenty of Red Kites around. SoloRoguePulsar15/08/2022

A very pleasant clockwise circuit of Great Rhos, Black Mixen and Bache Hill from New Radnor.Up Lane from Haine's Mill, round the three tops to finish down th Lane into the Centre of New Radnor. Good all th way except for a short stretch of dep heather from the gate at the end of the track before great Rhos. Path down through the woods near the end rather overgrown at this time of year but not a problem.dickscroop23/09/2021

Parked at the forestry carpark at the end of Mutton Dingle and climbed Whimble, Bache Hill, Great Creigiau, Black Mixen and Great Rhos, before coming back around the top of the valley over Black Mixen again. Stopped for lunch at the trig-point under gorgeous, clear blue skies.SootAndShale25/04/2021
5/8 A splendid round trip of the Great Rhos to bag 3 Deweys. From New Radnor up bridleway, with quick hop over the fence (SO 214 619) and up the field to Knowle Hill, back down and up FP through wood to barns, then direct up to the Whimble (splendid summit), back down and revisited Bache Hill and the transmitter at Black Mixen, visiting the deleted Nuttall, Great Creigau, en route. Then a significant descent to bag my second Dewey, Fron-wen (disappointing - just a rise in a forest road) and on to revisit Marilyn Great Rhos, before a long trek over wild moors to my final Dewey, Nyth-grug, and a lengthy road walk back to New Radnor. All in all a great walk with good views. 25km with 900m ascent in 7 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan24/07/2020

Parked at New Radnor and walked 17.5km taking in Bache Hill, Black Mixen and Great Rhos. Sunny day with some cloud. With eldest son.clyoung21/06/2019
After leaving Great Rhos I visited the Bronze Age barrows above Cwm Bwch, then headed east to The Riggles, much of which has been felled since my last visit. On reaching Shepherd's Well I crossed a band of felling with difficultiy and then headed into the heather to visit the barrow at the northwestern end of the summit ridge. From here it was a very arduous slog straight across the heather to the Black Mixen summit. The Bronze Age barrow there is decent, but is being badly damaged by off-road bikes. After a late lunch here I headed on to Bache Hill.thesweetcheat20/04/2019
Parked in New Radnor, followed route clockwise around Danger Zone to take in Great Rhos, Black Mixen and Bache Hill. Blustery and clear.andrew.morel15/04/2019

From Whimble via not so Great Creigiau. Tempted to climb the mast on such a still day. The wisdom of age told me not to though! A cracking view from the floor anyway.stig_nest24/09/2018

Parked up in the village and walked up Whimble first, then Bach Hill, Black Mixen and Great Rhos. Down into Harley Dingle then footpaths back to the village. Mainly following the Nuttall walk.Neolith28/08/2017
Knowle Hill - Whimble - Bache Hill - Great Creigiau - Black Mixen - Great Rhos. Basically the Nuttalls route with occasional diversions to take in the three bonus summits. Mainly cloudy and breezy but dry. Fairly flat topped so not much of a view.Herbert Anchovy29/07/2017
With Shaky & Smithy from New Radnor. Parked in the village & took the steep minor road NW up to the forest at the top, following the track & then a very overgrown path to E of Whimble rejoining the track. Followed the fence N & then climbed over the gate to follow the fencelines to the tumulus on Bache Hill. Returned to path & then slanted NW along the edge of Black Mixen detouring to take in the summit. A fine walk round head of the valley to Great Rhos on dryish ground & then followed track at edge of danger area all the way down to Harley Dingle & round side of the hill back to New Radnor. A couple showers but great views & a great walk out.NotReallyABagger23/07/2017
A fine circuit with 5 trigs, on a perfect sunny day. Beginning to be converted to TuMPing by Alex and co, and regaining proficiency in climbing barbed wire fences. From New Radnor, over the superb Whimble, Bache Hill, direct to Black Mixen (noooo - follow the track), edge of forest and peaty tracks to Great Rhos, then seduced away from the indistinct correct line to the forestry by Nuttall baggers track, but correct line regained off piste. Through forest, then up to Nyth Grug, Mynd, Black Brook track to A44, direttissima towards Molecatchers Wood, Castle Hill, and The Smatcher.Gill26/03/2017

Climbed Whimble and Black Mixen from New Radnor along road past forest and then pleasant track along Ystol Bach brook and Whinyard Rocks. Was solo, whilst supervising DofE Silver expedition. Returned same route. Weather dry and cloudy to start with, but mist and rain appearing by the time I got to the transmitter station on Black Mixen (so abandoned plan to climb Great Rhos). Whimble is a fine shapely summit with great views across the Welsh border-lands. Shame it doesn't quite make 2000 feet!jamessteel10019/06/2016
