4/5. Parked at the viewpoint to the E and walked up the track to the other county hp and the trig point. Cloud closing in with a reducing view N. Solo | richard69 | 29/11/2023 |
Nice walk up from CP | lordtonult | 28/09/2023 |
Decided to do this hill properly and started from village of Rhigos at bottom. Walked up through the forest to Hairpins on A4061. Path across the first hairpin was fine, but the path over the second, bigger and steeper, soon disappeared and the steep slope was covered with deep and soft vegetation: hard, slow work!! once at the top, the mile of track to the summit was easy. The southern slopes of the hill have been made a Wind Farm, and this looks an easier option if convenient. I've now done all British Marilyns over 600m. | IanHHill | 13/09/2023 |
From road viewpoint, saw zipline customers heading down. Trig point has had a fresh lick of paint - still smells fresh and adjacent grass also paint splattered. Solo. | Nick Canute | 13/02/2023 |
Parked at high point on A4061. 10 mile end to end ending at Melincourt. Bagged 493m Tump top at 861004. Found the trig point hidden in the trees just off the side path | JulieB | 29/12/2022 |
Parked at entrance to wind farm trudge up gravel track to trig and return | Tribal2er | 07/09/2022 |
08:00, 8 degrees (10 later) overcast, calm. Followed unofficial path alongside road from viewpoint (just follow the litter) then cabby and wet bridleway churned up by vehicles and drier track higher up. On to Craig y Llyn Boundary. | Wycombe Wanderer | 11/01/2022 |
Parked at high point on A4601. Visited the County Top 589m first. Good easy tracks. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 25/11/2021 |
From A4061 along cycle route 47 on wide wind farm tracks from 922026. Trig point on left off minor track north of route 47. Uninspiring, considering it's a Sim, Marilyn and County High Point. | KeithByTheC | 06/10/2021 |
After the first kilometre or so the bridle way shown on map no longer exists but the track just to the north does. Follow this to a large stone marker (which looks rather like a trig point), turn left and after a short way trig point is on your right. Equally straightforward on the windfarm track to the south, turn right at a distinctive Y shaped marker. | dickscroop | 06/10/2021 |
Cycled to the top from Glyneath, 5 miles up, 5 miles down! Weeeeeeeee! The highest County Top where you can cycle. | pclyndes | 03/09/2021 |
On a trail run from the viewpoint car park. | Wheelsy | 11/07/2021 |
With Pete. Saw Siskin and Willow Warbler on the way | paulhilder | 02/06/2021 |
from Glynneath, bus to resolven then walked back along tracks on top of east side of neath valley to reach this , the high point. | richardrosser | 17/12/2020 |
From plenty parking at Beili-glas windfarm. Used windfarm track to substation over Carn Foesen to summit and down via national cycle network 47 route to make a loop. | N.Morters | 25/08/2020 |
3/6 Dewey day. From the picnic area at SN 922 020, along the forest road and then up forest rides as others to Mynydd Tynewydd. Then along forest/wind farm roads to SN 942 032 and along rough grassy track to Hirwaun Common. From there back to the main wind farm road to the A4061 at SN 922 027. Made the mistake of trying to follow FP diagonally over open area. A combination of huge tussocks, burnt heather and very wet underfoot made this section very unpleasant, until decent track along the escarpment edge met, then easy going along edge with short diversion to locate the Trig at the summit of Craig y Llyn. Returned to the car easily via wind farm road. 17km with 350m ascent in 4 hours. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 22/07/2020 |
From the viewpoint/car park on the A406, west along paths & tracks and then north through the woodland to the trig pillar | Mariana Trench | 12/07/2020 |

A brisk walk on a chill morning, through a light dusting of snow. Had to hunt to find the trig point!! Beautiful view over to Fan Foel and Pen y Fan | EricMoore | 19/01/2020 |
From viewpoint to east. NOT raining. Sunny. Cloud inversion over Brecon Beacons. Pen y Fan peeking through. | lenman | 30/12/2019 |
From the viewpoint parking to the East. First part of path is gutted with motorbike tracks.Trig easy to find. Raining as usual. | NormanW | 08/10/2019 |

With E. From Hendre'r Mynydd Car Park, N along A4061 to wind farm entrance. Easy walk along forest roads (national cycle route 47) to trig point. Then down forest ride to Craig y Llyn boundary. | Beeliner | 16/07/2019 |

From summit of road to the east. | Winterfloodian | 03/05/2019 |
Parked at 923027 - walked in across boggy ground then ascended - summit is slightly hidden away to south of main track | wychwood | 19/04/2019 |
Walked from car park, nice walk but lots of people on dirt bikes, w/ Pete + Joe | penbet | 24/02/2019 |
From the east, no safe parking on road corner, paaked 200m to the south then a terribly overgrown short cut path to the main path to the summit. Fine views of Beacons despite the failing light. | Topographer57 | 30/09/2018 |
Family walk, started from Rhigos mountain road car park | philwhit | 25/08/2018 |
Parked at the viewpoint carpark on A4061, followed the path adjacent to road and then upwards towards cliffs. Continued along stony track until I reached the second stone way marker (Thanks Jim.r) and then turned left to reach trig point. Pleasantly surprised to spend some time watching a Peregrine pair flying out from the cliff face on the way back down. | Gerry the Ranger | 05/07/2018 |
On a cycling trip through Wales, following NCR 47, so took the very slight detour to the trig point/summit. NCR 47 gate was illegally padlocked at GR SS 8505 9940. Had to lift bike over gate. | tsharp | 14/06/2018 |
1/7 Marilyn day. The ascent of Craig y Llyn from lay-by on the A4061 mountain road at SO 926 031. Good views out to the Beacons to the north. 4.7km in 1 hour. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 09/05/2018 |
Parked opposite the wind farm entrance, by the cycle track. Forgot the map, but Hill-bagging came to the rescue on my mobile. A nice path follows the outside of the forestry fence, above the bog, relatively undamaged by trail bikes except a couple of wet sections (I do hope the last ones there got horribly stuck, serves them right). This path joins the nice track heading along the edge of the hill with excellent views. The turn off to the summit and trig is obvious, marked by a fake standing stone. One of the better hills in the Valleys, of which, I am pleased to say, this is my last. | Gill | 23/02/2018 |
Parked in a forestry carpark and followed the forest tracks up. easy walk but was soaked by the end and a trig summit | jmistry86 | 20/01/2018 |
Otis | Glenford | 30/12/2017 |
Big wind farm development here on cycle way to S - best to approach from layby which has pretty much the same view as from the summit. | twg27 | 30/11/2017 |
1/5M From top of the pass wet path then good track to the top, wet and windy day. | robertphillips | 11/11/2017 |
With Mid Glamorgan top. | Fred Windsor | 25/10/2017 |
Continuation on from the Rhondda Cynon Taff summit, lots of incredibly bright green moss about! Maisie's 200th English / Welsh summit. | DanMaisieBex | 14/10/2017 |
From viewpoint car park at SN927031. Path follows road, and then skirts top of cliffs (wet in places), and joins a stony track through the wood. At the second stone way mark head into the woods to find the most unimpressive 600m 'peak' in Wales (trig point is behind a tree, on the edge of a clearing). Views from the edge of the forest are good, but much the same as from the car park. | jim.r | 28/09/2017 |
Standard route from the layby in rather damp, claggy weather. Very odd summit for a Simm - quite flat topped, surrounded by conifers and what looks like a small car park. Returned via the Rhonda top. With M and X. | Herbert Anchovy | 04/09/2017 |
Three mile county top walk from the lay by on the A4061 Hirwaun to Treherbert road, around an hour for the walk and theres a snack van still working in the lay by. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 18/08/2017 |
With: hb; Walked from carpark on mountain road at SN927031. The path along edge is badly eroded by trail bikes. Trigpoint by open space amongst trees. | Ian Baines | 28/08/2016 |

Craig y Llyn from SN 92689 03092 | ronaldo333 | 04/06/2016 |
From the picnic site on the A4061. The construction of 63 wind turbines has taken over the cycle route to the top. The top itself appears to be in a security compound complete with automated scary message. The trig point is just outside. Glad we did it on a Sunday, probably very busy in the week. | Newton Maximus | 08/05/2016 |
Started from viewing point layby on A4061 (SN92657 03094) following Coed Morgannwg Way east turning south at marker stone near Carn Fach. Trig and summit approx 100m on west side of track, but almost totally obscured from track by temporary works depot. Back tracked to fire break before marker stone and returned to layby picking up bonus bag of Rhondda Cynon Taff (C), Craig y Llyn (boundary)on way back to layby | mntainman | 12/04/2016 |
