Good parking at Orthwaite with a £3 honesty box. Short walk along rd to bridleway then steeply uphill after crossing beck. Better route on return on path towards Calva then down small valley to bridleway.govanah11/07/2021
Started at Orthwaite Farm as per Wainwrights suggestion. Very difficult to park there. Felt very long to walk around the great Cockup. Aggressive cattle blocking paths where Hause Gill crosses with Burntodd Gill. Very soggy marshy land around there so need to stick to trails. It got more interesting as I skirted the bottom of Burnt Todd following Hause Gill upstream. You don't see summit of Knott until you are at 600m and about 1.5 hours into hike. Was beginning to doubt it's existence. Beautiful views at summit. 12km+ hikelifeathighaltitude22/06/2021

From Longlands first climbing Longlands Fell and Lowthwaite Fell, crossing over to Brae Fell and up to Little Sca and Great Sca Fell, stopping to put on waterproofs. Dropped down onto Meal Fell, then down to Frozenfell gill before stiff climb onto Frozen Fell. From here we crossed rough terrain to Knott, then followed the path south west toward Little Calva. At the col we took the path to Great Calva. Ground considerably wetter until the final short climb onto the summit of Great Calva. Back down into the wet following fence to the summit of Little Calva stopping to remove waterproofs. Heading north west, we crossed rough wet ground toward White Hause. At the edge of the plateau we hit drier ground and the path heading to a ford crossing Hause Gill north of Dash farm. Briefly trespassing we reached the ford but had to head upstream to cross with dry feet. Climbed north up flank of Great Cockup then east over summit down to trusmadoor and followed path back to Longlands. 13 miles.crax7326/08/2012
