Another trip to the Lakes, this time with eyes on some of the southern central fells. Bethany and I had been recommended Crinkle Crags by an Uncle for a decent fells, good veiws and recent footfall - he wasnt' wrong, we saw maybe 3 other groups in total during the day. It was an almost overcast day, but warm enough. Starting from Great Langdale, we took the path up along Owendale Beck, with a stop by a fairy pool, and a lie down on the grass towards the top. Up top was chilly, with some fun small scrambles, after bagging the Shelter crags and all 5 Crinkles, we decended down the over Great Knott, and back to Oxendale west of Pike O'Blisco. 5hrs 30mins: 11.1km; 888mByronHaywood29/04/2017

With Dad. From Cold Pike Far West Top. For most of the way from Cold Pike we followed the boundary fence in the thick mist. We arrived at the foot of the South Top without having seen it. Already late, we made a mistake coming down from the main summit following a path adjacent to Rest Gill as far as the Eskdale path. We climbed back to Three Tarns in total darkness (21:00) and then using the head torch descended in driving rain (22:45). Onto Main Top.James McKnight31/08/2006

On my own popping into the Lakes on the way home from the Scotland trip. Camped at Langdale. Decided to do the Crinkle Crags. Set off up Oxendale Beck through Stool End Farm, pulled up onto Browney Gill and onto Great Knott. Met a girl called Jill coming off Pike O Blisco and we walked together. I nipped onto Great Knott and caught up with Jill. Met another couple of girls who had come up from Wrynose Pass and they tagged on as they were a bit lost. The 2 girls left us at 3 tarns to head down and back. Did climbers traverse to Bowfell and up Great Slab. Then top of Bowfell. Then onto Esk Pike, Angle Tarn, down Rossett Gill and back to camp. Dropped her in Ambleside and back to camp. Met Ron and Hazel from Npton Climbing Club on site and had a few beers with them.Mark T22/07/1992

April 5th Tuesday. Joan, Peter & Ian. Thick mist settled in the early hours but decided to risk it being valley mist. Parked at the bottom of the Blea Tarn road and walked to Stool End ~ pretty cold in the fog 200m visibility - very few walkers. Followed Oxendale and up Hell Gill - gradually warmer with hints of blue sky above and Pike o' Blisco floating like an island. It is very hot as we slog up to the Crinkle ridge ~ just one big snow field ~ very wet. The valley mist creates glorious scenery but rises to form an afternoon haze. We enjoyed the Crinkle ridge. Everyone is very friendly knowing we have judged the weather to get a super day when most folk are fog bound in the valley. The descent down Browney Gill is a horrible rubble path so we descend the crags and linger to paddle in Oxendale beck.PeteF05/04/1988

To Wrynose Pass top. We followed the path from 3 shire stone to east side of Red Tarn, and on to Crinkle Crags South Summit. Between this and the North Summit are a few feet of scrambling (which can be avoided to the West). Arrived at North Summit and had lunch just beyond. We were heading West until by compass and sight we realised my error. Continued along ridge path to Three Tarns. Went down path on the Band to Dungeon Ghyll Old Hotel and had refreshments. By track behind hotel down valley, then joining the track on south side of Mill Gill to Stickle Tarn. Erected tent.pwbellarby22/09/1960

Crinkle Crags - a very apt name for this knobbly ridge. I have spent time over this area and always enjoyed the challenge of climbing every bump.ChinnockCblank
