DRC Hogmanay walk. Up track W almost to radio mast then then straight up SSE through the trees. Down the other side to Balloch Cottage, past Loch of Balloch and up to Knock Mary. Tracks and road back to start.TRG31831/12/2023
After Knock Mary, from Balloch Cottage W then NNW on good tracks to obvious path NW to summit. Clear forest ride NNW to radio mast then track back to the roadTRG31806/12/2023
From good small car park at NN 82690 19909, easiest route would be up track to NN 81286 19311 then obvious path to summit. I took abandoned track to NN 81536 19645 then spent half an hour pushing through trees before emerging onto a forest ride which would have been much easier.TRG31825/10/2023
Parked at entrance to forested area opp Balloch cottage. Lots and lots of signs asking NO PARKING AT GATEWAY. anyway, one car already parked there which was still there when i cam back. Listened out for forestry work, as there were many DANGER signs. Used OS mobile mapping to get to NN 820 189 where the is a PATH marked. Head high amazonian bracken. When you look on the ground, obvious trod is there. Close to summit, it was obvious to me that an easier way could be used. Which i did on way down. So, best suggestion is to get to NN 822 191, only 4/5 metres of waist hugh bracken and then easy moorland to summit.VerySlowPlodder17/07/2023
Advised to park on S. side of wide gateway opposite Balloch Cottage; timber lorries operating. As Lionel Bidwell, up forest tracks to start of path at NN 82232 19178; easily missed at this time of year - A short walk through bracken & then up over good ground to trig point. Below 200m, trees either side of track have been felled.gerrybowes07/07/2023
Parked opposite Balloch Cottages. There are signs saying not to block the gates but otherwise it appears ok. Same route as others. I would advise following the vehicle track south at the first junction then follow it west and back up north to pick up the footpath to the summit which is marked on the map.KevPalmer09/05/2023
Up and back via the forestry tracks from the access gate by Balloch CottageSpudGunn11/03/2023
On way back from SMMC Glencoe meet, with Paul Phillips. Circuit from Drummond sawmill, taking in Craig Gregarty and Torlum, finishing at site of what was Balloch sawmill.clashcityrocker09/02/2023
Parked at start of forest road, opposite Balloch Cottage. Simple walk up to trig on good tracks. Solo.Dangerous Dave10/01/2023
Windthrow area has been clear-felled, so no problems. Some minor detours to avoid forestry operationsmaknipe10/10/2022
From Balloch Cottage forest gateway.summitsup08/10/2022
On my way out of the woods I met a couple of guys who had been deterred by the head high bracken. The path through it, whilst always discernible, was unpleasant. Far better to use the route I chose for descent. When going up instead of taking the path through the bracken continue on the track almost to it's dead end. Just before a large tree stump a path cuts through a band of bracken only about 25yds wide, after which it is a pleasant grassy path up to the trig point.Ben Rinnes30/07/2022

Dreich day. Route from Balloch Cottage blocked by windfall after Storm Arwen, and forestry operation (probably clearing fallen trees). Approached from parking at NN 826 199 using forest track to comms mast. Rough vehicle track starts at NN 814 198 becoming a path up the hill until the trees are cleared. Then up through heather to summit/trig. Returned via more obvious path on the west side which joins forest tracks at NN 812 193.Fife Walking16/12/2021
From Balloch cottage. Followed tracks and path shown on map. Great views. Good walkrobphys20/10/2021
Very simple walk from training area to E - been meaning to get this hill out the road for a while. Saw nobody except about 50 dor beetles and 2 stonechat at the top.iangpark28/05/2021
Parked at entrance to track opposite Balloch Cottage, just passed sawmill (plenty room for parking). Circuit up through woods following track up to clearing and up tracks through bracken to summit. Came down a slightly varied route by taking first main track off to the right, then first main left and followed around and down to start point. Easy going all of the way underfoot. Pleasant walk on a day when the main hills to the west were going to be very wet.JulieB28/12/2019
From Balloch Cottage on forestry tracks and path. OS map of tracks seems accurate for navigation.willyross28/09/2019
A nice walk in the sun with NormanW, my local guide. Up forestry tracks from Balloch Cottage, then a faint path through bracken and long grass up the E ridge. Superb views from the top. Down the mapped path SE to begin then an alternative path through tall bracken to join the outward route. The forest tracks don't seem to be quite as mapped.Gill03/07/2019
This was my fourth time up Torlum, some 15 years since I was last at the top. Accompanying Gill who thought I would remember the way up. The bracken is much worse now, and so were the flies !NormanW03/07/2019
From Balloch Cottage, up forest tracks, W, to NN821188, then cut up path direct to top.Isbjorn18/03/2019

From King's Cottage. Followed track until a path branched off uphill for the last climb. Nice hill.the pigguy 06/10/2018
From Kings Cottage at 833188. At the tracks end (824193) keep to the side of the forest which is on your right which avoids the worst of the bracken. Solo of 1.75 hours return taking it easy.bolton10/09/2018
From Balloch Cottage (17:30) on tracks W, S, WNW, NW and N to edge of clearing then up winding path through bracken to top. Route shown on 1:25k map, not 1:50k. Finish 18:55. Dry but dull.dbb02/09/2018
No bracken issues in early May. A few red squirrels getting frisky though.summitter04/05/2018

From Balloch Cottage - I recommend Lionel's bracken free route.Chris Peart27/10/2017
Via track from the east. Path through bracken starts at NN 82078 18954. If too wet walk along track to NN 82232 19178 for bracken free path to summit.Lionel Bidwell08/10/2017
Walked from Crieff Visitor Centre via Knock Mary to the east.PsyCrow26/08/2017
From Balloch cottage, as per others using forest tracks. Last bit through wet chest high bracken on path but soaking.N.Morters22/07/2017

From Balloch Cottage, aka King's Cottage (note the pottery drinking mug in a niche above the well opposite). Forestry roads, bracken and intermittent paths, rewarded by wonderful views of the Glen Almond hills, Ben Chonzie and the Ochils.Nick Down101/10/2016

number eight of ten from Crieff, the only top which I'd done before. Good firebreak with deer path from col below Lurgan Hill. I descended with the fence to reach the road at NN827194 - surprisingly easy after entering the treesColin Crawford29/12/2015
A nice little hill with a Christmas tree on top.jenx19/12/2015
With Jenx and Alda from Ballchrogrie. Good track-path all way. Nice trig and tree providie ample shelter in all weather. Back down for some by the abseil.nordicstar19/12/2015
Met two mad baggers at start of track. Unusually, the woman seemed more driven than the man.alda19/12/2015
With Anne. From start of track at NN833188. Followed tracks through forest as shown on 1:50,000 map to point nearest summit. Final track disused. Steeply up though bracken to come to track not shown on my OS 1:50,000 map from which a well trodden path leads to summit. Used the track not shown on map on descent.pwbellarby07/06/2015
