Corney Fell Road > Great Paddy Crag > Kinmount Buck Barrow > Buck Barrow > Burn Moor > Whitfell > Corney Fell Road > Stoneside Hill > Corney Fell Road. Just me and H. Started off in thick clag and this continued for the entire walk accompanied by a strong breeze bringing a fine mizzle. Very wet underfoot with the decision to not wear gaiters being a poor one. Also forgot my sandwiches. Not the best day to be fair.johnkaysleftleg08/07/2022

Adaptation of Birkett's Whitfell Horseshoe (Walk WHI2). Parked on the verge just south of Brackenthwaite. Visited The Pike, Hesk Fell, Yoadcastle, Woodhead Height, White Pike, The Knott, Stainton Pike, Whitfell, and Bigert. 16km with 1000m ascent in 5h30m. (S)silveracorn_alan14/02/2022
From Fell Lane in the west. To be avoided. Boggy and path shown on map is mostly indistinct.geralddavison29/11/2021
Parked on the minor road to the south and walked down to Black Combe first before returning to the car for a break and then heading up here. More interesting than the slog down to Black Combe and even had some breaks in the clouds for some views. Not enough energy to do all the Birketts in the area.Father Ted25/10/2021

7.3 mile circular from Buckbarrow Bridge. Followed beck then footpath up onto featureless Burn Moor, then followed trails across to Whitfell. From then headed back to col and onto rocky Buck Barrow then across to Kinmont Buck Barrow following fence to top of the pass and onto Stoneside Hill. Followed surprisingly busy Corney Fell road back to car. Great views in lovely sunny conditions and only saw 1 other person on the walk on a Sunday in the Lakes. Only 495m ascent on walk. Earlier that day we bagged Caw, Stickle Pike, Tarn Hill and Great Stickle.DanTrig27/06/2021

Another great day picking up Birketts on these hills of solitude!! The day started off misty, then cleared and we had an extended light rain shower in the afternoon as we walked from Whitfell to Plough Fell. Plus, we had the added bonus of spotting a meadow pipit clutch of eggs. A happy day of bagging indeed!!morgs4mountains12/05/2021

WOs 35-43; Bs 26-38. Cloudless skies so did a huge day with 9 WOs and 12 Bs. Parked at summit of Fell Road then quickly up and back Stoneside Hill. Excellent walk over Great Paddy Crag, Buckbarrow, out and back to Kinmont Buckbarrow and same to Plough Fell (dull). On over Burn Moor to Whitfell - best views of whole trip - and pitched camp under Stainton Pike. Joyce set up camp while I did Stainton Pike, then horrid boggy walk out to The Knott and much better back to White Pike, Woodend Heights and Yoadcastle. Walked back to Fell Road next morning in thick mist.BURGESS24/07/2017

Start ~ 134904, Buckbarrow Beck. Followed the track up on to the moor passing over the summit of Burn Moor to get to Whitfell. The summit cairn was inhabited by a wasps nest so decided to have lunch later. Followed a contouring path over to Littlecell Bottom and then up to Buck Barrow. We included Kinmont Buck Barrow before dropping directly back down to the Beck following a strange burbing wall which seemed to have a underground stream in its base. I will admit, the heat and my general level of fitness were preying on me when I left Burn Moor, NEVER again think a greasy sausage roll is good climbing food. I had that at 1000ft and it murdered me the rest of the day. Burnmoor to Whitfell would nowadays be an easy down and up, but I was coming of ten years of couch potato and I got a wake up call. Grateful to get to Whitfell summit and in the substantial shelter from the cool Easterlies, I took a bit of time to ponder life and think about what would inspire people to carry many thousands of similar sized rocks to the summit and lay them in a perfect 20 metre circle half a metre deep thousands of years ago. This must have been a really holy place to them. There was a large Iron age settlement at Barnscar two miles away. I guess this was their 'burial ground'. I tried to descend via the OS route, but the fences have moved . Managed to see RowanTree gill waterfall, but not impressive as it had been dry for two weeks previous. Note tonukeboy120/07/2016

I anticipated poss of a good sunrise next day too so set my alrm in our little tent and wnet out to watch and it was indeed one of the best in the NE, Spectacular 7 hours.vegibagger04/06/2012

Crossing of hills between Bootle Hill Rd to Birker Fell Rd (2 cars). My brother and I went to Buckbarrow with Mom, saw her on the path back, then carried on to Burn Moor (featureless top, peat hags on way), then back to interesting terrain- Whitfell-Stainton Pike-Yoadcastle- Devoke Water to tarmac again. High cloud and fine views of S. Lakeland, 7.5 mile walk.pwheeler12/09/2003

The weather never really got going and above 450m the walk was in thick mist. P'd on the minor road to the S and followed the NT boundary to Buck Barrow then onto Burn Moor. From there an east'ly direction was taken to the rather large cairn cum sheltergaryhoney15/09/2002
