Gummer's How tourist path from the CP to the S. Nice path ... lovely summit. Continued along narrower grassy paths to NW of Birch Fell. A wooden piece of fencing in the otherwise barbed wire fence gives access into the forest and a meander around the trees takes one to the summit mound. Returned N to a stone wall and paralleled this eastwards until picking up the ROW heading S to the road. Road Walk in the dusk back to CP. | summitter | 07/10/2023 |
Parked in forestry car park to S. Good path up with amazing views from the top. Obviously a popular locals walk and several school groups out on the day. Blustery but sunny. Solo. | richard69 | 29/09/2023 |

Walked between summits via Lightwood & Birch Fell. After getting home, checked & realised I’d misunderstood the location of Birch Fell summit so I can’t claim it. Won’t be returning to correct my error! | ADT | 30/08/2020 |
Walk 12 of AW's Outlying Fells. First done 14/07/2020 but the weather was bad that day so came back today. Was rewarded with fine weather and views. Ran back down to the car park. | James McKnight | 08/08/2020 |
From Gummer's How Car Park, Staveley Fell and Gummer's How. Last day of a trip to Grange bagging Wainwright Outlying Fels. Weather broke and we did these two fells in driving rain and high winds. Couldn't even see Windermere. Utterly grim. | Lazylizzie | 04/08/2020 |

I have wanted to do gummers how for a while and having done it I want to keep going back. Parking at the gummers how layby, myself, Bec, Lily and Myla who had all done amazing to get up at 6am to get here set off. Gorgeous wooded rocky path leads to and simply scramble to the top. the views continued to excite and kept getting better and better. At the top we were joined by a herd of cows which at 1st made Bec nervous but soon realised they were harmless. We sat just under the summit and had porridge for breakfast soaking in the views of Windermere. Absolutely stunning and could of stayed there all day. We made the short trip back passed more cows and the girls slept all the way home. Fantastic fell. | Scotty 2 Hotty | 14/06/2020 |
