A wet and misty day. | EricMoore | 06/10/2023 |
Solo. From Crookburn Bridge. Along the fence to Scraith Head and the Burnhope Seat Trig Point, using the eastern side of the fence as this was a little easier. Went west to the true summit of Burnhope Seat (grassy mound) and down to the road at Darngill bridge. Back to Crookburn Bridge on the road. Dry. | pwbellarby | 10/08/2023 |
From the parking area at NY771376, followed the ski tow and then the fence. Thick mist, rain, very wet underfoot! | Geoff Briggs | 23/07/2023 |
With Val. Good weather. Followed the ski tow then on the summit. Went on to TP and also the Cairn. | mike.hoult | 18/05/2023 |
Walk up from Yad Moss lay-by and followed the ski tow up the hill. Conditions above 600 metre were awful; heavy snow and white out with about 3-6 inches of snow with deeper drifts. This was a revisit. This time visited the cairn, the true summit and the trig point. Returned by the same route. Time taken 1 hour 20 minutes for 2.5 miles. | isabelle | 12/04/2023 |
After trig point. Repeat visit. | PGCE | 25/01/2023 |
Crookburn Bridge - fence to Scraith Head - Burnhope Seat (trig point and summit) - fence to within 150 yards of Harwood Common summit - across country to Crookburn Bridge. | Mark Jackson | 31/12/2022 |
On the way to the main event - Burnhope Seat trig point. | Newton Maximus | 06/10/2022 |
From Burnhope reservoir, Nuttall walk 10.1: Three Pikes (hideous boggy mess),Great Stony Hill, Harwood Common, Burnhope Seat Trig and true summit, and Dead Stones. Good walking weather, cool with good visibility. This is a really tough walk due to the terrain (peat hags, heather & bog) and long sections with no paths. | Lazylizzie | 25/08/2022 |
Easy walk from the trig point today. No standing water and peat dry. Up from Kilhope Cross and back the same way. | Walker Dan | 11/08/2022 |
4/5 Nuttalls of 10.1. | DavidGMould | 24/06/2022 |
From Burnhope reservoir,Three Pikes,Great Stony Hill, Harewood Common, Burnhope Seat and Dead Stones. 5.5 hours, overcast but no mist. | Longwojo | 13/06/2022 |
With J on way back from week in Sutherland. On a filthy wet day, left original target of Cross Fell alone & got hammered on this short walk instead. Parked at cattle grid on county border at Crookburn Bridge (lots of room). Handrailed fence to trig & then on to true summit. Quick visit to Dead Stones & then reversed route. Relatively dry underfoot. The hags weren't the worst I've found but hill probably best done on cold, frosty day, I think. Heard & spotted plovers, curlews & bizarrely, buzzed by 2 honking geese on the descent! | NotReallyABagger | 22/05/2022 |
2 of 4: From 771 377 via ski tows. Cairn, TP and HP. With Karen. | ChrisR | 28/04/2022 |
I walked over from Harwood Common. The approach was much easier than I thought it would be. The peat was quite dry and despite being overcast with dark clouds above me, the views were far reaching. | morgs4mountains | 24/03/2022 |
Very easy walk from Nenthead. Carried on to Ashgill, up the skiing to Burnhope Seat. And horrible walk along to Dead Stones, Nag's Head, Knoutberrry Hill and back to Nenthead. Take gaiters next time! 12.5m all round | NCurtis | 26/02/2022 |
Circuit from Crookburn Bridge (NY781357) with Alex, taking in Harwood Common, Burnhope Seat trig & Burnhope Seat summit. Very misty, no views today. | Tony J | 14/11/2021 |
Mostly Misty ascent with Sal up via boggy boundary from road high point and down to road to SW which was better underfoot. | davechaffey | 14/11/2021 |
Mist was down most of the way from the road so this could have been anywhere really. | Alex C | 14/11/2021 |
Circular walk from parking at Killhope Cross. Down to old workings, Priorsdale, Little Gill Hush, Burnhope Seat hp & trig, Dead Stones and Knoutberry Hill. Overcast, misty at times. With Gillian, Graham and Selwyn | richard69 | 14/11/2021 |

After Dead Stones. Followed the fence until about 330yds from trig and then branched off cross-country directly to the top. Also visited area to NW which seemed higher from a distance. With Colin. | Andrew Pearson | 24/08/2020 |

Parked at Darngill Bridge on B6277. Straight up towards the top. Not boggy until near the summit. On to Dead Stones. | Peter_W_Mitchell | 06/08/2020 |
from Nenthead via Dead Stones. Views included Blencathra and Skiddaw, the North York Moors and The Cheviot!! My last Pennine Marilyn. | IanHHill | 03/08/2020 |

Came from Harwood Common in a strong Wind from the west. Had lunch sheltered by the peat hags close to the fence. Then it started to rain, followed the fence down to the boundary stone then over a stile and followed The path alongside the fence up to trig point. Straightforward but boggy. Decided to go down to the road via the ski club as the mist had descended, but the area on top (supposedly the highest point of the hill) was very wet, despite it being summer and not much rain recently. Had to carefully work way across, frequently backtracking when the standing water got too deep. This was by far the wettest part of any of the walks we had done in the area. No sign of the county top, is so boggy I expect stones would sink. Or is the county top over the fence? It seems strange that the 1:50000 map shows 2 summits, the 1:25000 only shows one, I suspect because the location is too hard to find! | Malcvolm | 26/07/2020 |
Walked up lane from Ireshopeburn to join Nuttalls route 10:1 to Three Pikes, Great Stony Hill, Harwood Common, Burnhope Seat and Dead Stones. | dgresty | 21/07/2020 |
From Burnhope Reservoir along grouse track to Sallygrain Head. Then fence to summit (easy to do Deadstones if you want but already did it in January). A lot of peat hags to contend with. There are pallets on the other side of the fence but broken - stand on the support blocks between the wood.
Left the summit by following fence to summit of Harwood Common | NorthernWayfarer | 20/06/2020 |

Started from the lay-by on B6277 by Yad Moss Ski Tow. No clear path. Very very boggy. | DJWan | 29/12/2019 |
Start at small parking area off the B6277 Grid 788351. | smocks and denims | 29/11/2019 |
Parking area at bottom of ski slope. Up past ski lift to BurnhopeSeat trig. Then out and back to Harwood Common and out and back to Dead Stones and Nags Head. Lots of boggy ground, peat hags and tussocks. Made sure of Burnhope Seat on return and the cairn. Some views over to Cross and tghe Dun fells but hazy. Bit of a slog. | mart0797 | 25/07/2019 |
As per Nuttalls' 10.1 minus Three Pikes. Lovely clear day and vey dry underfoot. Just as well as it looks as though this top could get pretty squelchy in less ideal conditions. | milimana | 23/05/2019 |
Straight up from Yad Moss | Gordy | 17/05/2019 |
Quick route via Had Moss ski slopes | ghullgd | 15/05/2019 |
Parked below ski tow, then short walk to summit. Did the trig and also the small cairn on way. Just in case. Company: Solo | iandesbottes | 13/05/2019 |
Done on a walk from burnhope reservoir visiting the tops of great stony hill, burnhope seat and dead stones. True summit about 200m north over the fence from the trigpoint. | Brunshaw | 13/04/2019 |
From the cattle grid at the County boundary. After the summit arrived at the trig at exactly the same time as fellow bangers and enjoyed a long conversation. Made the hill so much more enjoyable as a result. | NormanW | 27/02/2019 |
With G. From Ashgill Bridge then minor road at Mid Ashgill to access land just south of Harelaw Hill. Followed boundaries > Burnhope Seat > Burnhope Seat Trig > Dead Stones. Headed west / WSW to pick up good track at Little Gill Hush then back on minor road to Ashgill. | RT1970 | 23/02/2019 |
From Burnhope Reservoir, Nuttalls route without Three Pikes. Sunny but very wet underfoot | Gary Heath | 17/02/2019 |
From local road, no tracks or paths but ground mostly OK. Generally sunny but intermittent fog coming in on strong and cold NW wind. | Topographer57 | 09/12/2018 |
