3rd of 6 hills on a 33km circular from Middlesmoor. From Meugher, passed between two gills then followed boundary to Stone Head Crags where i had a break. Easy from there to top. Continuation on ridge heading for Little Whernside...Dazingdale28/05/2023

Great Whernside and Buckden Pike from Kettlewell. Up by Hag Dyke to the trig at the top of Great Whernside, then north along the ridge, turning left along the Bridleway from Scar House and following it to the Coverdale / Kettlewell road at the top of the pass. Straight across and up the track by the fence to the ridge wall and then in a short distance to Tor Mere Top. Turned NW and followed the often boggy track by the wall to the Polish War Memorial and along the flagstones to Buckden Pike's trig and summit cairn. Down the track to Buckden and back along the Dales Way to Kettlewell. 27km with 800m ascent, taking me 7 hours.silverwolf_alan07/05/2023

Circular hike from Scar House taking in Little Whernside and topping on Great Whernside. Used the opportunity to practice some micro navigation finding the actual source of The Nidd and other physical features. Also found the wreck of a Wellington Bomber that crash landed in September 1942 on a night nav exercise. Nature notes: lots seen today but the curlew and lapwing were abundant and in fine voice.higlett05/06/2021

Having finished work at 2pm I had planned to arrive 5ish to climb from Kettlewell. As it was the M6 traffic meant a late start so from the cattle grid gave a good leg up. The squelchfest across the col was decidedly wet. It had belted down in these parts in the past 24 hours and boy did it show. Once on steeper ground the going was far better. Summit reach 3/4hr from start. Lots of lovely limestone and at this time of day I had dusk all to myself. Didnt hang about though, not fancying beeing caught in the mire. Overnighted at top of pass. A bloomin cold night too.stig_nest30/09/2016

Walked up slippery path up to Great Whernside walked along wet ridge and approached Little Whernside from the South, not too bad under foot until I got onto the top of the hill which is a bog swamp that may be more suited to the Peak District, walked back down the boggiest path ever that leaves north from the col and heads back to the road.DanTrig22/10/2011

Jenny and I left the car on the Kettlewell-Middleham road at the highest point, below Great Hunters Sleets. The initial climb was boggy before it steepened and then eased off on the ridge, which was partially covered in the remnants of the previous week’s snow. Wonderful walk along moorland ridge from Little Whernside. The head of Nidderdale seemed particularly wild and lonely on this beautiful, crisp sunny day. Good route to Grassington via pt 512m, then along good track through Limestone country- now the Dales Way. Full walk was: Lofthouse- Little Whernside- Great Whernside- Conistone Pastures- Grassington- Linton.pwheeler23/02/1974

Not actual date as no log kept. First mountain I climbed without my parents - on a school trip. Snow, cold and the glass in my flask broke so no hot soup. Straight up and back down again from Kettlewell.ijpowell01/03/1973
