Solo from Black Hill car park via both Barden Reservoirs. Windy with driving rain.alistairpooler08/01/2023
Solo from P & D car park in Burnsall. I walked along Back Lane, then up hill before heading W along a wall with a sheep trod on its S side. After a tough climb, below Numberstones End, a building comes into view with a vehicle track passing it. Whilst on the track, to the building’s SW, I spotted a line of white posts. I followed these until the trig pt came into view on my R. After visiting the top, I retraced my steps to the building and followed the track opposite down to Thorpe and then PF back to Burnsall.ADT11/09/2022
After Cracoe Fell I followed a path to the W of the wall until it reached a 4x4 track, then followed this round to the N of the summit, then took a beeline to the trig.Wheelsy06/08/2022

Back on Barden Moor again! This time with Steve, on a circular walk 18.7km long with 600m of ascent in 6 hour. Started at the car park at Embsay Reservoir and visited the cross and obelisk on Cracoe Fell, and also Crookrise Crag Top, Thorpe Fell Top and Brown Bank returning by Embsay Crag. Very clear air, with extensive views from Ingleborough to Drax Power Station; Wharfedale in front of a snowy Buckden Pike looking especially good.silveracorn_alan15/03/2021
A circular walk around Barden Moor visiting High Crag, Embsay Crag, Crag Top, Cracoe Fell and Thorpe Fell with Chris. Windy with frequent hail showers. Very wet with a slippery peat track underfoot. 21.5km with 960m ascent taking 6h50m.silveracorn_alan12/03/2021
From Cracoe village- Cracoe Fell and Thorpe Fell Top. Stunningly beautiful day- good covering of snow on the ground, sunshine and blue skies.Lazylizzie30/12/2020
Embsay Reservoir car park to the Crag Top trig, then continuing along a wall side path all the way up to the Cracoe Fell obelisk and war memorial. The crucifix en-route was an interesting diversion... love the Victorian graffiti. Then carried on to Thorpe Fell Top via path, moor and track, and Gill Beck Head, descending to the Upper Barden reservoir dam. Up to the scattered rocks of Brown Bank then across Wayshaw Bogs to Embsay Crag and back to the CP. Nice walk. 3.5 hrs.summitter26/09/2020
From Linton up to Thorpe Fell Top trig, across to the obelisk at Cracoe Fell, down to Cracoe and back by field paths to Linton, With Annette, Christine, Eric, Geoff and Steve. Our first walk together after lockdown. 14km with 300m ascent in 5 hours.silveracorn_alan04/06/2020
First walk in YDNP after lockdown lifted! Parked at car park at Halton Heights. Followed southern edge of moor over High Crag to Embsay Crag, then track north to Brown Bank. Continued along gravel estate road (bridleway) to SD 984 570, then turning north along track past the cross to the obelisk, from Cracoe Fell continued on by wall to next estate road and broke off to visit crumbling trig at Thorpe Fell Top. returned to car using more estate roads past the two reservoirs and up to Halton Heights. Good to be out in the Dales again! 22km with 570m ascent in 5h30m. (S)silveracorn_alan14/05/2020

Connecting Thorpe Fell to Cracoe Fell direct across the moor is best done starting at Thorpe Fell. Leaving the summit there's a very poor path for about a third of the way then just pathless heather. But eventually a stone post marks the start of another path for the final third. Doing it from the other direction there's no landmark to find the path at the Thorpe Fell end of the route so you'll probably end up doing two thirds of it across pathless heather.ijpowell26/04/2019

From Halton Heights cp via Cracoe. 150minutes to here. My 500th Pillar. Whats left of it.. quite an interesting top with all the weathered rock. Wouldnt fancy being up here in mid winter though. Miles back to the car now.. a weary trudge.stig_nest06/09/2017
6 tops today and this was the toughest due to slogging through heather or to my poor route finding!trimarc223/05/2017

12.3 mile circular from car park at Halton Moor walked up to Halton Height (High Crag), then followed lane up to Brown Bank, across to the cross then onto Cracoe Fell (Watt Crag), walked back down wall to another lane then cut across heather to Thorpe Fell Top trig, cut back to lane then followed lanes to Upper Barden Reservoir dam back to the car park. Bagged Sharp Haw and Rough Haw earlier that day.DanTrig11/02/2016
Parked on B6265 just south of Rylstone and just north of where the track leaves the road. Climbed Cracoe Fell and then went across to Thorpe Fell Top - the last part was across the pathless moor which, as far as pathless moors go, was not too bad. Need a compass and GPS though.clivevilla18/12/2015
with Rosey. Done under the impression that this was still the Marilyn, only to find that I'd already done the new Marilyn years earlier.IanHHill05/08/2015

Parking alongside the walled village green in Thorpe. Follow the walled lane to where it meets the moor where a track starts, via the old pits, to the shooting track. From here it is a 15 minutes heather bash to the summit trig,moorsman31/01/2014
Up Burnsall fell race route to lodge with Imperial College Fellwanderers. Ran solo to trig, return same route.Edgemaster16/12/2013
With Jo, circular walk from Halton Moor: bridleway to Brown Bank, path by wall to the Memorial Cross Cracoe Fell (Obelisk), across fell to Thorpe Fell Top, descending NE to tracks pass Barden Reservoirs. Weather; sunny, cold wind, very good visibility.amblerbob04/11/2013
From Cracoe Fell, went cross country for a couple of kilometres and up to the trig. Great views over Grassington and beyond.DanHolme05/10/2013
Started on Back Lane, Burnsall, then tough scramble up the fell close to where the fell runners go. Along the tracks at the top and short hop across the heather to the trig point. Descent via tracks towards barden reservoir, then cut along side of the wood back to Burnsall Road - tough to find footpath, so lots of thick heather and high bracken to work through - tough!Donks4226/07/2013

From Cracoe village - took track and wandered easily up to Thorpe fell Top (old Marilyn), then contoring track around to obelisk on Cracoe Fell. Back over rough ground an 'In Fell'? to track out of village.nordicstar17/04/2011
A fantastic 13 mile circular walk from Embsay in fine weather. The views around were superb and this has been one of my favourite walks.Ramblingbadgers09/04/2011
Re-completion 8 years later since my original English Marilyns completion (on IOW) following switch of marilyn status from Thorpe Fell Top to Cracoe Fell. A long moorland walk with Lesley from east up past reservoirs and along again to Thorpe Fell Top to complete a circuit.Chris Pearson23/10/2010
Walked up from Burnsall via Thorpe on the way to visiting Cracoe Fell which had replaced it as a Marilyn. yorkie11/11/2009

Trig revisit. SOTA guy transmitting from the summit, 16 contacts in 90mins (none from other hills). Cold & intermittently raining - 5mins was enough for me. War meml on Cracoe Fell also worth a visit (rumoured to be a Marilyn twin top).RHW18/11/2006

Burnsall was heavy with traffic and no parking spaces. So parked at approx: SE035604 next to a wood. A path lead through wood, then some tricky navigation on moor land to Thorpe Fell.Jhimmy27/08/2006
