Beautiful walk in autumn. Easily climb and descent. Wonderful views into Wales and across Hertfordshire.Breinholt30/10/2022
A short diversion on Stage 7 of the Wye Valley Walk (Monnington to Hay). I was surprised at how vegetated the hill was, with no views until the summit itself. Sadly it wasn't the best of days, a bit drizzly, but the views of the Black Mountains were still very fine. The descent to the west is very steep in places.thesweetcheat03/09/2022

Stopped off at impressive long barrow, Arthur's Stones, then continued on and parked where the path leaves the road for the summit. Sheep had muddied the field following rain so I gave their feeding area a wide berth. Great views from the top.Pete West16/02/2022

Just enough light to appreciate the scenery that inspired great English composers a hundred years ago: mercifully little changed.Wycombe Wanderer16/01/2022
Two day bivvy hike from Hereford and back with this top being the main purpose of the trip.Alex C28/05/2021
From SE. Verge parking. Along BW which look like it would be muddy when wet. Multiple tracks lead to top. HP to SE of trig marked with a few stones. Good views. Also visited Arthur’s Stone.PeterD01/05/2021
9km circuit from Bredwardine, following Wye Valley Walk to Merbach Hill and returning via Arthur's Stone.Tony J29/03/2021

Parked on wide grass verge to SE, about 40m SE of sharp bend at SO 3098 4397 - Along RoW over sheep pasture to trig point. (S)gerrybowes02/06/2020
Delightful area of grassy hummocks (Access land) full of birdsong. Elder, gorse and may in flower. Great Wye valley views. HP on a hummock near trig.Denise 24/05/2020
Walked from Arthur's Stone where there is roadside parking. Summit area is vegetated mounds and cuttings from minor quarrying of sandstone. Great views over the Wye valley from trig point. I was convinced the highest mound was 25m SE of trig, but it's all been influenced by man anyway.RichardM24/05/2020
Fantastic circular route in Wildlife Trust Magazine. Started at Bredwardine Church then took various footpaths including Herefordshire Trail and Wye Valley walk to summit, amazing views en route, stopped at Arthurs Stone for lunch. Unique viewpoint from the top of Merbach, Radnor Range bathed in sun was a highlight.RyParks28/03/2020
With Jenx and Bryher up the West ridge. Parking opp B&B, room for three cars by paddock in Middlewood village, asked permission owner v friendly. Better than farm up road. Muddy path, Eddies Grandma would not have liked it!nordicstar31/12/2018

From SO 309 439. Easy.PGCE10/07/2018
From SO 31468 44350 up the path (which has been used by motor bikes) to SO 30868 44632 where the bracken has been cut down for motor bikes up to the fence heading SE-NW where the track continued alongside and then through bracken to the quarry. Circled around to the trig and what looked like a higher lump just SE at SO 30372 44702. Headed NE to meet the Wye Valley Walk expecting to fork right at SO 30515 44757 on the ascent bridleway but it wasn't there. Returned SO 30450 44762 where a track went SE to touch the '8' on the 1:25 '318' spot height, then ESE then ENE to pick up the bridleway at SO30665 44707 which I followed back to the car. 45 mins 1.83 miles.Jim.Fothergill21/11/2017
With K. From road corner to south-east. ROW was impassable so trespassed through orchard and saw badger eating windfall apples in the middle of the day. Caught on summit by thunderstorm; phone wrecked by rain. Only hill of the day.Ashley13/11/2017

From SO 309 439. Plenty of parking space on the verge and then a simple walk across pasture to the common where the trig is situated among what I think are old lime quarries. Nice views of the section of the Wye I had just walked along as part of a pisciverous bird survey (Turner's Boat to Whitney Toll). I crossed a point on the pasture which seemed higher than the trig but presumably an illusion.Herbert Anchovy21/03/2016

Parked on rough grass verge at bend in minor road at SO 30974 43991 (291m). Track then right-of-way to summit.David Gradwell19/08/2013
There is space to park one car at the bend in the road just north west of Crafta Webb. From here it is an easy walk along the unmade up lane and then across some scrub land to the summit. The actual trig point is a little difficult to spot if you are a stranger to the area as it is hidden behind some workings about 200m off the path.moorsman14/05/2013
A pleasant walk from village of Bredwardine on part of the Wye Valley walk, returning via the burial chanmber, Arthur's Stone, for a 5-mile round trip.jonglew20/04/2013

Nice walk up with wife, left coats in car which was good as we were greated with a very black sky coming off the Brecons. It was a bit wet on the way down, lol !heavyhorses25/08/2011

Parked to the west in Middlewood at start to the more windy of the two footpaths up through the fields and then into the woods. Slightly steep in places but mainly a gently climb. Newly painted white trig on top.Father Ted27/03/2011

Revisit. Fairly scrubby hill but trig is clear, at summit on small grassy tumulus. Simple ascent from N, via house drive then signposted f/p leads up to b/w crossing summit. Squally afternoon, muddy paths but just about missed the rain.RHW02/12/2007

5 Sub-marilyns bagged on a strange route south to IOW from Sheffield. Should have been doing the KIMM as usual but had been forced to pull out with an injured foot - still mending , but OK for walking.Chris Pearson28/10/2002
