From Corfe Castle to Studland | jef | 12/02/2024 |
From lay-by to East. Trig to the right of path at SZ 00849 81092. The gate to the summit field is padlocked with barbed wire over it. However immediately to the left is a section with no barbed wire. | KevPalmer | 14/01/2024 |
From the lay-by on Studland Road. | islamidget | 28/09/2023 |
Up PROW from north. Logged moved pillar first before a quick foray down the track opposite. | cjo | 23/07/2023 |
From parking spot opposite bridlepath, followed public rightsof way, then over rusty gate next to barbed wire gate then over pointless rope fency thing to summit. Trig now well down the hill. Not sure what that now means for the trig baggers. | JulieB | 18/07/2023 |
Easy walk up from viewpoint on Corfe to Studland Road and followed paths the whole way. Landowner doesn't want you in the field but barbed wire covered gate was easily climbed and stunning views at the top. There is one space for a car opposite the access path from the road to avoid a slightly busy walk along the road from the viewpoint. | PDR365 | 16/05/2023 |
MC Climbed from parking bay to the E. Misty on top. Electric fences! | Martin66 | 10/01/2023 |
Parked in Swanage and went for a walk, Nine Barrow Down, Ballard Down, on to Old Harry Rocks and the Pinnacle before returning back via the steam railway. Rain, wind and sunshine made it an enjoyable walk. | Buck | 30/10/2022 |
With J on a sunny afternoon from the viewpoint to NNW. Iffy walk E along road for 100m to start of bridleway. However there is a small pull in with room for one car directly opposite the gate. (Someone had been into the bracken when I was there though!). Disinterested cattle in field before wood. On exit from wood into open access field, followed path to fence/hedge then turned E past giant mushrooms to meeting of 4 fences in SE corner. Easy to jump the fences here & proceed to summit area. Demolished & broken trig still in NE corner of field with the farming tank thing in it. Returned same way except for taking more direct descent to gate where path enters wood. | NotReallyABagger | 20/09/2022 |
A trip out walking with friends so this was just a short diversion.
The Trig point however has been toppled and moved. | Anthony Vosper | 30/06/2022 |
Me and G and next day with Shiela and Paul | Grizzly | 13/06/2022 |
From viewpoint above Kingswood Farm. No-one about and no livestock to worry about. Very straightforward. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 08/01/2022 |
Parked at viewpoint to NW | paulhilder | 12/12/2021 |

From the layby car park at SZ 0206 8099. Up & over Round Hill, then along the Purbeck Way for a short distance. Up passing the Oil Tank & along the E - W fence line.Back via the remains of the old WW2 D-Day radio masts. | DanMaisieBex | 03/07/2020 |

Quick Visit from View Point Parking area after day trip including Long Knoll, Stourhead House and Gardens, Corfe Castle & Studland Bay. Couple of Cows and sheep in the field. One Gate to climb. | Jephcote83 | 25/05/2019 |
Walked up to Nine Barrow Down on a gloriously sunny and warm Easter Sunday. Plenty of parking on a layby off Ulwell Road. Crossed over slightly to the right to stile and start of walk at Round Down, up to Nine Barrow Down, as signposted. | mazz | 21/04/2019 |
Walked from Ulwell, by Swanage, then afterwards via Brenscombe Hill to Corfe Castle. | IanHHill | 21/03/2019 |
From the viewpoint car park to NW. Cattle in fields near summit also electric fence and many strands of barbed wire. Not recommended route. | NormanW | 11/02/2019 |
From viewpoint car park at SZ 006818. Requires a short walk E on the busy road to start of path at SZ 008818, but a narrow raised grass bank has a thin path along it to keep one off the tarmac - but don't stumble! | Isbjorn | 05/11/2018 |
3/5 Marilyn Day in south central England. Nine Barrow Down from the B 3351. A fine and sunny day. Good views of Poole Harbour. A round trip of 4km in 1 hour. | silveracorn_alan | 29/10/2018 |
Day trip from Ldn by train and bike. Walked from car park. Blue sky sunny day. Also did Swyre Head – not knowing it was deleted. | Rounsfell | 20/10/2018 |
Bag and go on bridleways from viewpoint to the north east on B3351. Entry to the summit field with the big tank, over the gate at SZ005812, has no barbed wire. | KeithByTheC | 13/09/2018 |
Bridleway up from the north, turn sharp left at top of the wood. | Topographer57 | 11/08/2018 |
from north side viewpoint car park near Isle of Purbeck golf club entrance. Easy and pleasant. | M0YDH | 21/07/2018 |
C | This Dog | 12/07/2018 |
Took steam train from Swanage to Corfe Castle, looked round the spectacular ruins. Then walked back to Ulwell over the downs. Didn't enter summit field at Nine Barrow Down. With AP&J. | PiranhaFish | 08/07/2018 |
Via RoW from viewpoint car park | Crib Goch | 05/05/2018 |
From NT cottage at Currendon Farm along the Purbeck Way. Trig pillar still on its side, gate still topped with barbed wire but the adjacent gate was open! | Newton Maximus | 05/12/2017 |
With K from north. To reach summit either a fence must crossed or a gate wrapped in barbed wire. Worth it for view which cannot be obtained from right of way. | Ashley | 15/11/2017 |
With Val. Parked at viewpoint car parking area . Walked along road for about 100m then path to ridge. Tank in field used to locate nearby summit. A mainly wet day but fitted the walk in between showers. | mike.hoult | 07/11/2017 |
With Mike | Val Deisler | 07/11/2017 |
8/8M last of the day in the dark straight up from the north. | robertphillips | 06/11/2017 |
A nice walk from Swanage to Corfe Castle, courtesy of the no. 40 bus from Wareham station, and bracketed by a splendid breakfast in the Salt Pig in Swanage and lunch in the NT tea room at Corfe Castle. The trig point is still there, but it's been chucked over the edge of the track below the gate. In exchange for this act of vandalism, baggers have created a nice wriggle route under the barbed wire next to the gate, so it's now very easy to get into the summit field. | Gill | 20/10/2017 |
Long loop from Corfe Castle, Chapman's Pool, Swanage and back. Good ridge walk (especially for mountain bikes!) | twg27 | 14/10/2017 |
Perbeck Way to Corfe Castle Walk. | stephenbuda | 12/09/2017 |
A run to the summit from the north of Studland beach. Hot and sunny. Climbed barbed wire get to the actual summit near the water tank. Field was full of sheep. It was 7 miles in an hour. | isabelle | 17/06/2017 |
Short walk up from viewpoint car park. 35mn round trip. Great views to Poole and IoW | N.Morters | 15/04/2017 |
Both of us | Tonyandsue | 08/04/2017 |
1/5 Marilyns today. From car park on road to north up row to ridgeline. Bits of barbed and electric fence to negotiate but easy enough. | SS | 05/02/2017 |
Plenty of parking at viewing point on B3351 north of summit. Short walk back along road to Swanage to pick up bridleway to summit. Summit on fence line west of radio masts 30m NE of water tank in middle of fied which looks higher. apparently there is a demolished trig point despite wandering all around field and towards radio mast saw no sign of it even though the fog had made an attempt to clear. | mntainman | 19/12/2016 |
From Ballard Down | trimarc2 | 26/10/2016 |
From Layby on B3351 NW of top. Up BW and then along ridge. Then onto Ballard Down | Andrew Pearson | 08/09/2016 |
From Ulwell. Up BW then over gate to summit. Young Bovine very inquisitive. Had been within a 100yds of top 14 yrs previous during MTB orienteering event. Finally returned to visit HP. | PeterD | 26/06/2016 |
Parked at SZ 02053 80992 in a layby, short walk up onto the ridge by an Obelisk followed the ridge out to Ballard Down Trig Point then retraced my steps back to the actual summit of Balled Down. Summit is by the corner of a hedge and gate. Then back down to the road and followed the footpath to the radio mast, difficult to find summit of ballard down now the Trig Pillar is missing | Tony Hartry II | 17/03/2016 |
From viewpoint car park on B3551 to North, then ROW to ridge. No trig. | tim747 | 04/02/2016 |
Train to Corfe and walked back. Lovely clear, mild day but still very breezy on top. | Bournespeed | 28/12/2015 |
From Viewpoint along track then cut up to barbed wire fence and on to top | Bramley | 14/10/2015 |
Good views, shame that fencing prevents you from being on the summit and the barrows, as that is where the best views are. | bellminsterboy | 02/09/2015 |
5/7 Fifth of seven on long day Bullbarrow Hill/Hambledon Hill/Win Green/Swyre Head/Nine Barrow Down/Ridgeway Hill/Creech Barrow Hill | Fergalh | 22/08/2015 |
A easy walk up from the lay by to the north. Cows observed. | Play2End | 12/06/2015 |
From viewpoint, up and down bridleways. | rhalstead | 17/05/2015 |
Parked at the viewpoint at 005818. An hour to the top and back on the public footpath. Walked around the 'ugly tank' a few times and the area to the ENE. My last English marilyn. A shame the landowner does not share the vision. With GM. | bolton | 24/04/2015 |
Parked in the layby opposite Round Down which we walked over to pick up the track to the trig point, we then climbed over the barbed wire covered gate to visit the summit area by the water tank. Glorious sunny day with superb views. | Peterb | 06/04/2015 |

Parked in large layby NW of Ulwell (SZ02070 80996) – Took footpath opposite layby which links up to the bridleway – Up bridleway & then climbed over locked metal gate to reach the unmarked summit which lies close to the fence ENE of the oil tank. (S) | gerrybowes | 04/02/2015 |

Easy walk along Purbeck Way from Ulwell, large laybys available. | citygent | 10/06/2014 |
Parked north of the ridge at 008819 and walked up the bridle way to the ridge path. The trig point has been dug up and dumped to the south but the oil tank remains to grace the summit. The landowner has strange priorities. | mindlessflogger | 25/05/2014 |
from road to E. lovely looking hill from this side though further views blocked out by damp o/cast conditions. visited field of w/tank and said hello to the dead trig, lying on its side. there's an access hatch in the ground here surrounded by very slippery concrete.. found out hard way. result= left arm broken in EIGHT places :-( | stig_nest | 26/09/2013 |
Stayed at Chewton Glen's tree house. Walk with Dan. | LydiaB | 26/11/2012 |

Left from carpark on B3351, easy walk, summit inaccessible due to private land - gate with barbed wire on top. Nonetheless climbed gate and went to top with Joe. Quite a flat summit, good views of Poole harbour and Swanage. | Wesrob | 30/05/2011 |
Walk with Nicky, Emily & Joe, only Joe and me crept up to the summit. | fnem | 30/05/2011 |
Spot by the oil tank is definitely lower than SZ 00851 81210 or SZ 00815 81213. Good views and fun struggling up and down through gorse covered slopes to N. | signyred | 28/01/2011 |

Dry, clear, calm, cold, sunny, good views. | iangalbraith | 15/11/2010 |
From near road junction some distance to E. Steady uphill walk to where trig lies on its side on slope to L of track. Higher on R and over the fence is summit area. | Aye Jimmy | 03/11/2010 |
Fairly steep walk up from Ulwell, but beautiful views across Swanage. Walked across the top to Corfe Castle, slow amble with the dogs, lots of other walkers, a few cow fields and horse riders. | hmt1000 | 10/10/2010 |

Parked at viewpoint on B road north of top. Easy hike up, great views of Poole Harbour but no definite top point. | clivevilla | 09/07/2009 |
Walked from Ulwell where there's ample parking in a layby. A busy hill but deservedly so. Had to wade through a crop of peas to reach the top. Landowner obviously not keen on walkers as the gates have been smothered in barbed wire. Easily negotiated though. | Herbert Anchovy | 01/07/2009 |
with Jamie | vegibagger | 08/04/2009 |
Lovely easy walk along ridge from Corfe to Swanage. Is a track to the top even if the field were to have crops in it. | destaylor | 26/01/2009 |
Lovely autumnal day on another day off from FMD Guildford. Highest point in private field. Corfe Castle has a spectacular position. Parked near farm just of B3351. | Dugswell2 | 23/10/2007 |
Revisit date. First date not recorded. | RHW | 17/02/2007 |
Nice hill, walked along ridge from Corfe Castle, shame about the trig point. | DanTrig | 02/08/2006 |
Unmarked point on ridge near antenna in private area - toppled trig pillar is lower and 100m to South | webmaster | 27/10/2005 |
Trig point has been disgracefully slung down the hill. Summit now unmarked, but in easily-accessible private field, near attenae. Supeb views of Poole Harbour - another example of why marilyns are better than other hill lists! | wheresthepath | 17/09/2005 |
With: hb sb ab; Climbed this from E following the good track which takes you right to the top. Returned by the same route. | Ian Baines | 12/01/2002 |

Walked up track to the top fields and followed wall to trig point | ChinnockC | 24/11/2001 |
Annual week's bagging / climbing with Darren. Cornwall , Devon & today 6 marilyns across Dorset.Darren managed to climb, with a leg up, on top of the oil tank on the summit - like trying to climb onto a very round smooth elephant. Nick Crane crossed here on his 2 degrees west journey with just 9 grid squares to go of the 578 that separated the Northumbrian coast from the English Channel | Chris Pearson | 16/08/2001 |

Date above is approximate. Some friends and I were surveying this hill (and all the way down to Worth Matravers) back during my a-levels for Geography. It poured and my mate Ben cried somewhere near the long barrow. Hilarious. | DanHolme | 01/05/1995 |
