Return visit following August 2011 ascent when HP was in corner of field near aerial compound. It was also a Marylin, now missing out by 30cm.
This time parked off road on bridleway in field at NW corner.
Walked along western boundary then between crops (peas I think) to designated hp.
Continued old hp location then on to bridleway and back to van. | mntainman | 15/03/2024 |
A very late evening ascent after fine pizza from Hawkinge. Parked at start of track to field. Don't miss the aerial view point 1 mile south. | Minto | 30/06/2023 |
A special trip over here to bag this deleted Marilyn. Solo. Parked in the large pub car park before it opened. A quick walk up the road to the field. High point is in middle of field of young cereal crop. Fence corner possibly of equal height. Had a lovely beer and a good chat in the Cat & Custard Inn afterwards. This pub is well worth a visit and makes up for the disappointing hill! | Dangerous Dave | 05/01/2022 |
Had a long chat with the gentleman who owned the field, and who saved me time by taking me to the high point. 5 minutes walk from the Cat&Custard pub car park, if that. | mazz | 25/10/2020 |
Parked outside pub, first to trig and then back to HP in field corner. | PeterD | 24/10/2020 |
With Val. Parked at the pub car park. Along the lane then track alongside field, first field boundary on right to the summit. At first helped by farmer who sent us in the direction of the TP but got it done eventually. | mike.hoult | 18/09/2020 |
Hump bagging drive around the South East before moving North. | atreides7887 | 08/08/2020 |
Parked in the car park at the Cat & Custard (plenty of space) and then followed a narrow lane and field margins to the high point. Best to bring a GPS to get an accurate fix. | Gerry the Ranger | 05/08/2020 |
As a detour from NDW. Circled field and went through other fields to the reservoir with its locked gate and view of the trig point | lerritt | 07/07/2020 |
Parked at the Cat Custard and walked down lay, and through field towards trig. No trig found in hedgerow but google maps said we were stood on the right spot. | Hippy77 | 16/02/2020 |
A long trip over from my caravan site near Portsmouth to tick this one off, only to find out later that it has since been demoted from its Marilyn status. Anyway, at least I won't have to go there again when I do the Humps! Good aerial view of the goings on at the tunnel entrance from my short ramble. | silveracorn_alan | 26/10/2019 |

From the Parking Space near the Church, along field edge then carefully negotiated crops to reach the high point on the field boundary. Not Worth a proper walk so headed off to explore elsewhere. Quick visit to the church which was nice | Jephcote83 | 15/06/2019 |
Very easy Marilyn after arriving back through tunnel | Mark Sims | 02/05/2019 |
As others from pub car park round field edges, plus trig visit. | N.Morters | 25/04/2019 |
Parked by church. A wild and windy walk to summit and then short circular back. Day before Sevenoaks Circular. | MichaelF | 16/03/2019 |
Parked in the car park at the rear of the Cat and Custard. Field margins to high point - trig enclosed in water reservoir area fenced off.Drove down to view the Channel Tunnel complex. | NormanW | 15/02/2019 |
Managed to park on grass verge at TR 19670 39790, to avoid using pub car park. Then a deviation from the line of the RoW passing through the same field. | Isbjorn | 08/11/2018 |
Walked up from near Peene. Pleasant but uninspiring. Earlier walk on White Cliffs was much more fun. | IanHHill | 29/09/2018 |
Short walk from the west past natural summit to roof of reservoir | Topographer57 | 07/08/2018 |
From the cat and custard pot with elizyanne | GmacT | 08/07/2018 |
Hard to call this an ascent! Drove all the way from South Wales to bag my last two Kent Marilyns and do some geocaching. Parked by the junction where the pub and church are then down the track and across the field diverting off the footpath for the last 100 meters or so to get to the given grid ref. | Father Ted | 20/05/2018 |
11/11 Interesting drive following sat nav! From pub (closed) car park in the dark followed track and field edge. Drove down a different way. | SS | 09/02/2018 |
Summit is a hedge row in a field also there 2 trigs close by one is a reservoir compound and the other over looks the Euro tunnel. also great to visit the pillar boxes down the road. | jmistry86 | 18/01/2018 |
5/11M from paddlesworth. | robertphillips | 05/11/2017 |
2/3 solo birthday kentumping. Unsatisfying Marilyn! Wat high point when farmer drove ominously into field. Didn't give me nae bother though. | tumpawumpa | 24/10/2017 |
Ascent from the south to Paddlesworth village | brandybordeaux | 16/09/2017 |
From Aerodrome road through fields. | rhalstead | 09/09/2017 |
First hill of the day on my whirlwind tour of Southeastern Marilyns. The walk from the parking space at the Cat and Custard, Paddlesworth, must be all of 300 m and perhaps 5 m of ascent, but the hill doesn't seem exciting enough to merit extension to a longer walk. Instead of a nice walk, I had a nice chat with the owner of the field. He was surprised to hear that he owns a Marilyn. | Gill | 08/07/2017 |
With K. I slept around here somewhere in a van years ago. | Ashley | 30/04/2017 |
Part of a very pleasant circuit N of Folkestone. Disappointing with no distinct summit point, but HP assessed as on reddish farm track by road side, S of aerial and W of reservoir. Reservoir is being expanded ( major work-completion due June 17) and the trig, also visited is intact and protected. | Denise | 22/04/2017 |
Circular walk from Etchinghill and back along NDW. | prwild | 08/04/2017 |
Sandling stn - Blackhouse Hill - Summerhouse Hill - Tolsford Hill - Cheriton Hill - Sugarloaf Hill - Swinge Hill - Folkestone station. A strong contender for best Tump walk in Kent? Summerhouse and Sugarloaf are remarkable hills. | Mark Jackson | 04/03/2017 |
Easily up from Cat and Custard Pot on drab, overcast day.Beware-there are some extremely narrow back roads round here which the sat-nav took a fancy to! | catman | 12/12/2016 |
From a parking spot at a road junction just to the NE of Peene (TR189381). Write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/cheriton-hill.html | Gayle | 05/11/2016 |
From Cat & Custard pot. Definitely worth walking down to the viewpoint on the edge of the downs to see the massive Euro tunnel train depot. | twg27 | 15/09/2016 |
Easy. | tallblond | 28/05/2016 |
An awful long way to drive to tick off what amounted to a brief stroll along a track then field edge to the actual top. | Cas-gwent | 05/04/2016 |
Second hill of the day.
Parked in the carpark near the Cat and Custard pub and took the short walk to the summit via the public footpath and the edge of the crop field. | Peterb | 21/02/2016 |
From the Cat & Custard pub with Peterb. Very uninspiring top but good to tick off last Marilyn in section 42. | bowlesy | 21/02/2016 |
To make this more interesting we started at Castle Hill, Folkestone CT19 4QB (51.096349, 1.155481). This route was 4.9 miles return. Park in Castle Hill just off the M20. Walk up Castle Hill until you reach Crete Road West where you turn left. Walk for a few hundred yards before turning right onto the footpath just past the kennels. Follow the footpath until you reach a crossroads with Gibraltar Lane. Turn left and walk until you reach the T junction with Elvington Lane. Follow the footpath opposite the end of Gibraltar Lane and cross the fields heading towards the farm house. The path crosses a track and continues until you reach the Lane. A few yards down on the opposite site you will see a pond with a footpath to the right, take this. Enter the fields via the pedestrian gate and walk across the middle of the field, passing through gates in the middle before you reach the other gate. There are horses in here. Summit is in field on left past mast. | tankbay | 20/02/2016 |

Daft summit, but viewpoint to South is worth the diversion. | huwthomas | 12/09/2015 |
Parked close to the Cat and Custard Pot pub then a short walk to what appears to be the highest point at the SW end of the mast and old shelter. | bolton | 13/11/2014 |
Parked at 20000 39558, trig in compound, then ROW to field with the summit in. | tim747 | 12/11/2014 |

Huge Great Dane honking at me in the field next door. | simon and co | 07/03/2014 |
Visited before seeing my sister at Folkestone. I turned off the motorway at junction 11a thinking this was the nearest exit to the hill, only to find there is no escape from the Channel Tunnel tolls. After a bit of explaining to the chap in the booth we were given a rejection ticket and told how to escape a trip to France. Parked outside the pub at Paddlesworth which has a large war time shell outside, hopefully its a dud. Views limited from top but France was clearly seen as the weather had cleared after the recent storms. | mindlessflogger | 26/12/2013 |
Gentle ramble from Hawkinge | AndrewFinnimore | 25/11/2013 |
another daft summit.. the farmer had just rolled the field which was nice of him.. the view rather hazy this morning. | stig_nest | 24/09/2013 |
W Jenx, parking by Cat and Custard Pot pub (nice pint after in sun). Easy walk down lane and track to horse field and 'top'. Views limited, walked on to trig nearby, not a lot better. Warm sunny day made up for it. | nordicstar | 07/07/2013 |
Parked by pub - not the most inspiring top | Bramley | 05/04/2013 |
Short walk from Cat & Custard pub. Not much to see. | hmt1000 | 16/05/2012 |

Dry, overcast, calm, misty middle distance views, trig also. | iangalbraith | 07/11/2011 |
Lunch @ Cat & Custard Pot then walked past radio tower on way to Battle of Britain Museum in Hawkinge. Bagged properly on way back by visiting field corner behind radio mast. | mntainman | 09/08/2011 |
Parked in Paddlesworth; wandered up road and path to Tower, trig and reservoir. With K,J and M. | The Captain | 11/02/2011 |

R distictly average! | Richard Tait | 13/08/2010 |
Parked at nearby pub and wandered thru fields to reservoir. Local farmer gave me a very odd stare as I walked along the public footpath. | Nick | 04/08/2010 |
Left car at crossroads, walked to reservoir then into adj wheatfield (very dewy) and followed irrigation tracks to reported summit by fence (10 min). On return called at trig pt near reservoir, also res roof which is highest point. | dbb | 03/08/2010 |

Glad I didn't go out of my way to do this one! Had a reasonably pleasant if damp mile long walk up from the south. Climbed onto the reservoir - not an inspiring spot. | Herbert Anchovy | 17/04/2009 |
Walked with the kids. A little dull as a climb! | vconnelly | 28/12/2008 |
All very flat and inconclusive. The top of the reservoir seems to be it to me and the trig point is at the foot of the reservoir at the far end. Otherwise it just seems to be wherever you are not standing. | clivevilla | 17/09/2008 |

petey | 16/07/2008 | |
Started from Paddlesworth, 25 to 30 ft asc, fiddled about deciding on highest point then had a short walk to the NDW where there is a birdseye view of the Channel Terminal. | pwheeler | 09/05/2008 |
Highest point is man made on top of reservoir near trig point. Highest non man made area is in a field nearby. Local farmer gets upset by people parking or loitering in the area. | Dugswell2 | 10/10/2007 |
A detour during first walk of the NDW. Nothing particularly to recommend it. The walk from Folkestone to Dover along the cliff path is much better. | NotReallyABagger | 18/07/2007 |
Middle of a field, rural location near an old airfield. | bigdady | 18/05/2007 |
Camped at Black Horse Farm and walked up on a wet, gloomy day. | Overthehilljill | 10/02/2007 |
Is in a farmers field. Would be very difficult if it had crops growing. | destaylor | 22/01/2007 |
Highest point is actually on top of reservoir NW of trig point(and is accessible) but grid ref above seems to me to be highest point in the nearby field. | signyred | 07/11/2006 |
