Cefn Coch-Coety Mountain-Coety Mountain Boundary-Gwastad-Mynydd James-Mulfran from north. Couldn't say much about first 3 as visibility down to about 30m which made things interesting. Happily cleared for middle part of day. | TK | 09/03/2024 |

With KeithByTheC. 12.8 mile circuit from Abertillary.
Abertillary, Coety Mountain, Cefn Goch (Tump), Cwm Celyn, Mynydd Carn-y-cefn all the way along the ridge to entrance of wood at 203048, then down through wood to Abertillary. | JulieB | 25/03/2022 |
From Coety Mountain. Mostly good tracks until very near summit where more tussocky, heathery ground has to be crossed. | KeithByTheC | 25/03/2022 |
Circular walk from Blaenavon, fine weather, good walking on paths but off paths is very slow in heather and long grass. Lovely taste of the Welsh countryside. | JazDisney | 16/01/2022 |
Abertillery - Arail - Mynydd Carn-y-cefn - Nantyglo - Cefn Coch - Coety Mountain - Gwastad - Abertillery | davidpettit84 | 19/11/2021 |
Solo Blaenavon loop on the hot Bank Holiday. Up from Forge Side to Mynydd Coety, then dropped down to the thankfully dry col. Up to the tussocky, heathery Cefn Coch summit, then dropped steeply down to Waun Afon. The causeway with crashed car was just about passable in relatively dry conditions, although it was a bit of a squelch! Up to Carreg Maen Taro standing stone then on to Pen Rhiw Ifor tip, Cefn y Galchen and the Carnedd y Defaid cairns before returning down to Blaenavon. | thesweetcheat | 31/05/2021 |
Parked in Whistle Road car park. Tracks to old mine, then straight up to Coety Mountain. Onward to Gwastad and back to Cefn Coch. Direct return from Cefn Coch. | PGCE | 30/03/2021 |
1/6 Dewey day. From the end of the small road near the pub at Whistle Halt. Up FP to ridge, then north to Cefn Coch and back to path. Then along rough off road vehicle track along west side of Coity Mountain and up to near summit of Gwastad. Short navigation through heather.
Back track to due west of Coity Mtn summit, then short cross country to the top. Descent to mine road and back to Whistle Halt. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 21/07/2020 |

From the start of the old tarmac track to the north (near Waen Wen) then cut up onto the shoulder south of Cefn Coch then north to the summit. Then East to get a trig point block then south for some caches and some blocks on Coety Mountain. | Father Ted | 14/03/2020 |
First of three Deweys from the free car park at the start of the road leading to the Whistle Inn 23004 10312. Ten mile done in four hours, route was Cefn Coch, Coity Mountain and Gwastad. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 19/01/2020 |
Blaenavon - Coety Mountain - Cefn Coch - Blaenavon. | Mark Jackson | 05/10/2019 |
2/5 Parked in car park before the Whistle Inn and followed footpath up hill, then wandered over the heather to the high point, some dangerous looking holes between tussocks along the way. | penbet | 20/07/2019 |
1/3 - from CP at 2018109 - in fine weather - headed down track then onto ridge - windy from SW | wychwood | 19/02/2019 |
From the cp at the start of the Whistle Inn road. Good fp to the ridge and then tussocks but not desperate. | Campbell Singer | 01/04/2018 |
Parked on wide verge beyond the Whistle Inn at 228100 - S. up RoW to col & then NW across tussock & bilberry to arbitrary high point in heather. Descended ENE to track & then back down RoW to car. (S) | gerrybowes | 25/09/2017 |
Circular route from Cwmtillery taking in Gwastad, Coety Mountain (and boundary 'top') Cefn Coach and Mynydd James. Another disappointingly flat heathery top. Lovely sunny spring day, dry underfoot and skylarks above. | milimana | 25/03/2017 |
From Blaina, circular walk inc. Mulfran and Mynydd James. Mixture of muddy quad bike tracks and off-piste over rough tussocky ground. Snowed quite hard at one point, but nothing settling. | jonglew | 09/04/2016 |
Circular route from Cwmtillery. Useful car park at 21781 06091: Mynydd James, Mulfran, Cefn Coch, Coity Mountain & Gwastad. All round topped hills. Route via various quad tracks with a fair bit of yomping across heather thrown in. | Cas-gwent | 02/02/2016 |
Coety Mountain, Gwastad, Mynydd James, Cefn Coch and Mulfran. Parked at the Whistle Inn - 12.93 miles. On my own and went pretty fast 3h 54m. | clivevilla | 07/10/2015 |

From near the Whistle Inn with A. Glad ground was dry. Good views | PeterD | 18/07/2015 |
Started at a carpark in Cwmtyleri. Followed Afon Tyleri but high above. Walked round head of valley an upto Cefn Coch. Wind, rain and cloud made the walk 'interesting'. | MikeM | 28/03/2015 |
Along mine road to the end then up to the rather flat tussocky plateau where GPS found the summit. From there on along the ‘ridge’ to Cefn Coch before returning to take the excellent ROW back to the mine road. | SS | 17/03/2015 |
4/8 This was the second part of major circuit of the 5 peaks on plateau....like all of the peaks here no trig pillar summit was a short journey to left from track around 400 metres or so. | Fergalh | 13/12/2014 |
Starting from the bottom of the Cwmtillery resevoirs. We made our way up through the fields east of Cwmtillery and up onto Gwastad. We found that a lot of the rights of way shown on the map or nonexistent now. We did manage to find tracks most of the way along the ridge to take in Gwastad, Coity Mountain, Cefn Coch and Mynydd James. We had to fight across heather, tussock and blaeberry to reach the first three summits which was very tough walking. Trying to find our way back off Mynydd James was incredibly difficult. We ended up going very steeply downhill through 7ft bracken before eventually finding a path much further down. Wouldn't bother doing this again, but it was a fun day out. With Keith. | islamidget | 09/08/2014 |
As for Coity Mountain. Summit on this one not overly clear either. | isabelle | 29/12/2013 |

From Whistle. Tussocky unclear summit | mike.hoult | 02/12/2013 |
Springy heather, no paths, doesn't matter. Lots to do in Blaenavon and walk to Myn James via Cefn Coch and deep valley 218 089 makes good day. | dicky | 19/05/2013 |
Very boggy walk approaching from Big Pit. Featureless summit, but great being the only person up there. | Tracey | 11/03/2012 |
Walk from the Big Pit Museum, doing a round of Cefn Coch, Coity Mountain and Gwastad. Lots of yomping accross open moor, didn't see another soul all day. | rhalstead | 24/01/2010 |

lovely valley altho hills a little ordinary. cwm tyleri, track junction by forest @ 223078 | RHW | 16/05/1998 |
Took in this Dewey as on the route of a big linear 30K+ day run on a very hot day with Rob Small between our two distant cars linking 4 marilyns N to S above the Valleys. Flagging well before the end in the heat, but enjoying the unusual contrasting mix of urban/ rural landscape; even the strongly smelling brown source factory near the end! | Chris Pearson | 05/07/1997 |
