Parked in layby next to Talybont reservoir, did a loop going up to Bryn, then along to Waun Rydd before decending via Allt Lwyd. Very soft underfoot, foggy and windy, no views but a good day out.lboutside16/03/2024
Parked in Llanfrynach up road then tarmac track across ford and then followed FP uphill. Plenty of tracks. Went to top and then cairn, back more directly to FP. Good views.PeterD19/02/2024

Walked up from Pencelli then headed down through the forest to Talybont-on-Usk and back along the canal. With R on a very warm, sunny spring day.clyoung26/03/2022
Parked at the end of the minor road in Talybont forest 09461 21571, using the forest track heading North west to reach a track on the left which leads to a gentle grassy climb to the summit. Three and half miles in one and a quarter hours.WAYNE ROWLETT05/02/2022

13.5 mile walk from Llanfrynach. From village along well signposted Three Rivers Ride and another footpath to Rhiwiau farm, then onto Cefn Cyff ridge fairly easily onto Fan Y Big. From here we followed nice footpath along Bwlch Y Ddwyallt, then across to Waun Rydd plane wreck and followed plateau around to Carn Pica cairn and featureless Waun Rydd summit, then descending on easy grass with gentle ascent onto Bryn (first time bagged) followed footpaths back to village. 861m ascent. Perfectly clear, sunny and all round very dry. Saw quite a few people.DanTrig18/04/2021

From church south west of Pencelli. Nice walk. Near start path through fields not obvious. After crossing stream and emerging from wood head for stile and after crossing stile turn right to go straight up hill alongside hedge to gate.ijpowell29/08/2019
From lane above Pencelli, on clear but chilly day accompanied to summit by Missy, a jack russell cross, on her first hill walk. Keith contoured round on lower path. Heading to Waun Rydd.alwaysinshorts13/04/2019
From the top car park and up the path to Craig y Fan Ddu. Plenty of people on the lower slopes but above 600 metres they melted away. There were a few snow patches above 600 metres. I carried on to the summit of Waun Rydd which carried a dusting of snow and some impressive icicles coming off the peat hags. Visited all 3 high points before heading down to Bryn. This was a great viewpoint but as the weather was closing in I back tracked to the summit of Waun Rydd. I headed south through a blizzard to Cwar y Gigfran. The wind was ferocious and I was pleased to get off the plateau on the path to Allt Forgan. The summit was unmarked but the high point was fairly obvious as at this height I was below the cloud base and there was even some watery sunshine. It was then a bit of a slog getting back to the car as I couldn’t cross the river until I reached the wooden footbridge which then meant a reascent through the woods. Time taken 4 hours for 10.5 miles.isabelle17/03/2019

Pleasant walk up from Pencelli to good viewpoint-short walk chosen to take account of weather and my tummy trouble!Descent via north-east ridge to tracks through woods which must surely be among the favourites for The Muddy Track of the Year Award 2017.With Jon,Helen and Oscar.catman30/03/2017

Parked on verge near Tregaer on a beautiful, cold, Winter's day. Lovely walk and visited high point and cairn before coming back down.clivevilla29/11/2016
Just walked up to here to get a view of the hills of an evening. Made the mistake of trying a shortcut through the forest to the east. Not recommended!Neolith11/10/2016

Started in Pencelli in the car park shown on the 1:25,000 OS map and walked up a field path through several gates, a short stretch of track and a short stretch of road to St Meugan's church. More field paths and road led out onto the moor. Further tracks and then a direct ascent to the top. Descent was via paths and the spot height (462)to the edge of the tree line. A further track was followed down to the Usk Valley Walk, turning left and back to the ascent path.MikeM19/05/2016
From church car park south of Pencelli (loads of room on a weekday) taking path over fields to road then up via Calwdd Coch to old summit pretty much direct. Return via new summit and high level path.SS26/04/2016

Night ascent under a full moon on bonfire night- no torch need and fireworks occasionally in the dark valley below.Atmospheric with moon shadow. Up and down same way. Returning to Sussex from Llandovery.Chris Pearson05/11/2014
Continuation of walk from Waun Rydd. Walked down north ridge to bwlch then easily up by path to summit - western top seemed higher than cairned one. To descend, dropped down east to forest edge, then, followed this down (thickets and barbed wire) to track. Crossed stream by bridge then up to end of lane in Cwm Clydach. Followed this down to road, cutting off corner by use of RoW south.Man of Kernow122/07/2014
Walk from Llanfrynach, initially to see what the higher summits looked like on a day of uncertain weather. Wind almost prevented upward progress! Great views from the summit, even on a somewhat claggy day.thesweetcheat14/12/2013

Ridge walk from Waun Rydd. The path down from Rydd peters out but the terrain is benign enough. Bryn is a delightful summit.johnabutler227/05/2011
