O: Broad flat top, nothing to say where summit was other than a pile of stanes. It looked like it could have been the summit so that's where I took my GPS reading.

From Cwmyoy. Small cairn about 50m from the main N - S track. Some of the heather clumps nearby are on 'hillocks' which are slightly higher. Glorious late spring day.DanMaisieBex14/05/2022

Small cairn in knee high heather, short distance from ridge path. Superb wild views of red bracken- covered uplands, green valleys and woodland in autumn splendour. Sunny but cold. From Graig and onto Mynydd Ferddin.Denise 25/11/2021
Path along S shoulder then over heather to the squat summit cairn. Great views. Vibrant Autumnal colours in the low bright sunshine.RichardM25/11/2021
From Llanthony Abbey we headed north which was slightly off route. Rather than lose height we followed the good path near some ruins and a new building round to the Beacons Way, where we should have been. It was an easy ascent with two teenagers although I had to bribe them with a pub meal as they went on strike as we reached the ridge. The Autumn colours were lovely and the rainbows added some brightness. The views were far reaching to the Malverns and Shropshire Hills. Summit was a flat heathery expanse. The kids complained the heather was too tall. We found the cairn and went back the same way, this time taking the Beacons Way all the way to Llanthony. We had a pub meal in the Half Moon Hotel which set us up for the drive home. Time taken 3 hours for 5.88 miles.isabelle25/10/2021

Parked by church at Cwmyoy and took the sunken lane opposite. Enjoyed a wonderful day up in the hills. Lots of ravens overhead throughout.Gerry the Ranger07/12/2020
Parked up above Llanvihangel Crucorney then a little bit of road walking to pick up Offa’s Dyke path and followed to summit. In darkness. Initially clear, but hit dense cloud, then emerged through it just before summit. Little moonlight so didn’t see a full inversion effectwychwood06/12/2020

Parked behind the pretty church at Cwmyoy. Fp and took right fork. Decent path most of the way until I hit 250 ms of snow covered deep Heather. Mist descended just before characterless top. Descended along ridge to Graig.Campbell Singer31/01/2019
Reached whilst walking the first leg of the Beacon's way, a short trip (no more than five minutes) through the heather will reach the cairn. If doing a out and back free parking can be found at Llonthony priory and then follow the signs for Hatterrall ridge.WAYNE ROWLETT04/09/2018

Parked in free car park at Llanthony Priory. A pleasant walk up the Beacons Way to the summit cairn which lies in the heather about 150m W. of the main track. Cairn now more prominent than that shown in summit photo. (DB)gerrybowes28/09/2017

Great walk up an interesting hill on beautiful sunny winter's day. The wonky church in Cwmyoy is well worth a look on the way up.Cas-gwent28/12/2016
5th and final top and best in my opinion on this ridge on my Offas Dyke Path Walk from Hay-on-Wye to Pandy, climbing Black Mountain, Black Mountain south top, Pen-y-garn Fawr and Red Daren, leaving rucksack on main path and veering off to visit the cairn and summit. Nice atmosphere. Re-traced route back to rucksack and continued to the Lancaster Arms guesthouse in Pandy.Dazingdale19/10/2016

Started from Cwmyoy. Parking not easy. Followed track. Not easy to find the start. Between two farm buildings then up to broad ridge. Quite steep. Missed the track which leads past the top (a good cairn) and ended up heather bashing. Took a direct line from top down into Cwm Iau. More heather bashing, eventually easy until a good path reached. Then path from Blaenyoy to the Yellow House (Tr-Hwnt-y-Bwlch) and back down the track to Cwmyoy. Not a bad walk, probably easier in reverse.MikeM18/04/2015
From Llanthony Priory on Beacons Way. Great weather for third walk of the day.SS19/03/2015
1/6 First of long day started from below at layby on cwm Iau and followed tracks to top. A good warm up for what lies ahead.Fergalh01/02/2015
Cold but beautifully sunny walk from Pandy via Pentwyn Camp. The path was frozen above 450m, so no mud (yay). Carried on up to Black Darren cairn (where it snowed briefly) then back the same way.thesweetcheat24/01/2015
