Beautiful area, but this was so hard. Parked Butterstone Village Hall. Over Riemore Hill, NT, Far NT, Spurn Hill, Craig Wood SE Top and Craig Wood. Hard heather. Now a dyke to follow to Creag nam Mial. Hard going, no path and steep crags to avoid near summit. Then followed dyke E to Meall Dubh. Will the heather ever end. On to Creag Loigste, Benachally and Craigend Hill. 29km, 12 of which were over mainly knee deep heather, slippy with wet and patchy snow. So glad for every track. Precious few animal tracks. 29km, 850m climb 8:40.Lynnebe13/02/2024
Sunday and scone game fair was on, which maybe why not much action around estate ? Squeezed acr into grass opp entrance to Pitmarick Estate, estate roads around to where a sign for Cateran Trail appears. Keep on the etstae track until loch. A boggier atv track continues, initially in the direction that you woild expect. I kepy with it and crossed both dry stone dykes. At second dyke, atv by now is in heather….kept on that until cam eto a burn. Not fun, then started. Knee deep and above heather. No animal had made a wee path….. and onto sub s topwith beautiful cairn , down and up to summit. V apprecaiative of the wind to keep off biting insects. Just under 6 miles to the top This was my second attempt at this hill ….failed from west in 2022 from guayVerySlowPlodder02/07/2023
A tour of most of the tops of Creag nam Mial. Some deer paths along the main ridge wall, otherwise pretty relentless heather.sclater10/06/2022
cycle from ballinluig, abandoned bike on the very boggy track below Creag nam Mial West top and took a fairly direct route to Creag nam Mial. 25km in 4 hrs. Loving the weather, but not loving the bogs, nor the heather, doubt I'll be revisiting this one!Nicky C23/04/2022
From Cally car park, Dunkeld, with cycle along tracks as far as NO028530, then walked E along an overgrown track to junction with another overgrown track at NO039534 (mapped FB at NO038532 no longer exists), then across rough country to summit of Creag nam Mial, return same waykdbennett03/08/2021
From Pitcarmick.BLACKHILL26/06/2021
With L & R. From Kirkmichael, along Cateran Trail then track to Pitcarmick Loch. Further tracks from there for a while then rising heather moorland - not too bad at this time of year and helped by a few patches of firm snow.Janet M07/03/2021
Cycled from the village hall. Followed the deer fence/dyke to summit. Really great views for a modest hill. Onto Spurn Hill across really tough terrain.Play2End30/10/2020
Bike from Butterstone along minor road then tracks. Popped up n doon the heathery Riemore Hill before parking up by the Laird's House at the north end of Loch Benachally to walk the humps and bumps to its north. Pretty rough terrain makes it a tiresome round, but deer tracks aid along sections. Started with the other two Riemore Hills then Spurn Hill, the Craig Woods, Creag nam Mial, Meall Dubh and Creag Loisgte. Time allowed for a ride back through Riechip to Craigend so that Benachally and Craigend Hill could be added to the day's hit list. About 5.5 hrs total.summitter30/10/2020
From the forest car park just north of Dunkeld, by bike, past Loch Ordie, to 042523. Last bit a challenge in the mud. Due east across hillside, following wall/fence, route back from the top followed deer tracks past the larch trees and is a bit easier.iangalbraith30/08/2020
I did this hill after Deuchary Hill, from Guay - good parking up forest road at NO006495. No comparison in how easy or otherwise it is to climb these two hills! Good tracks and paths but then had to cut off direct up the hill to avoid cows. Route to the hill is on very rough heathery terrain. Returned via a path of sorts between the wall and the fence.curlebd03/08/2020
Via track past Pitcarmick House to Pitcarmick Loch; followed ATV track south towards hill then ascent up heathery slopes to north top and onto summit.PaulineD18/07/2020
Challenging to find anywhere to park along the A924 which, IMHO, would not be an irritation to locals and hence cause issues for future baggers (for routes reported from the East), so did it in combo with Deuchary Hill, from Guay - good parking up forest road at NO006495. Good tracks and paths to path-stream junction at NO040538, then direct over very rough terrain. Green areas can be linked up after initial bad heather, but later, the heather becomes your friend as its edges tell you where the least wet ground is. Five foot fence can be crossed where two posts are leaning over, near high point. From summit, all other lines of approach seemed to be worse, involving large tracts of deep heather.Isbjorn04/06/2019
With Elizyanne. Parked at NO 091570 across the road from Auchintrail house. Plenty space for one car leaving gate to field clear. Used the JenX solution. 4 Hours 50 mins.GmacT19/02/2019

Solo. From Ballintuim in Strathardle. After reaching the summit of Meall Dubh I continued westwards, mostly a little way from a wall. Just before the summit of Creag nam Mial I came across the remains of a stone hut. I climbed up behind the hut to reach the summit of Creag nam Mial. To attempt to avoid the vegetation that had somewhat hindered progress on the outward journey I descended northeastwards down a small valley. I then struck a line going eastwards. Going was easy initially but then I came to profuse vegetation. Fortunately I found something of a path or animal track through it so it was not too bad. I went round the south side of Loch Charles to join my outward route.pwbellarby26/05/2018
From Ballintuim. Maybe I was unobservant, but I didn't find much evidence of good paths, despite following the walls. Plenty of knee deep heather became somewhat monotonous after a while. Reminiscent of the Pennines. Circular walk, in a failed attempt to find better going, up from the Loch along the wall, and down NW from the summit, then follow the wall E, leading to a track. Track foul, so back to the small plantation NE of Loch Charles across bogs on deer tracks. The views were OK, snowy Cairngorms etc.Gill10/11/2017

W from Meal Dubh - walls can be follwed along paths of varying quality almost to summit. Nice location, pretty good views. Went NNE to visit tall (2m) cairn.ger03/09/2017
Climbed after Deuchary Hill from NO006495 via paths and tracks shown on OS map around east side of Capel hill to NO041527 from where a fence/wall line was followed to the summit (some deep heather bashing involved). Returned around west side of Capel Hill.raffemeister31/07/2017
Solo trip. From Ballintuim up to Loch Charles, then from W tip of Blackcraig Forest west along wall to summit. Areas of burnt heather speed progress, and paths nearly all the way within a few m of wall. Magnificent view.Invicta1407/05/2017
From Ballintuim...good track , then series of deer tracks roughly following the wall on the crest up from dammed Loch where a wall from the plantation to the south joins. Another wall to the north misses out Meall Dubh but both join with a third wall from the south west just below the summit near a small ruin.N.Morters10/12/2016
After Deuchary Hill via Loch Ordie and the wall to the west. It was very hard going but the descent to Loch Pitcarmick was easier, probably because it was downhill.Chris Peart23/05/2016
Perfect parking on wide verge at Ballintuim road-end before private road sign NO 101549. Up the road to the loch and beyond to wall followed all the way to the summit. Very good going on deer tracks. The owners, of whom we met three, were unhelpful in their observations.benarmine25/03/2016
Sort of a path most of the way from Meall Dubh.alda13/03/2016
New route devised by Jenx. From East parking on road side of A924 at entrance to Pitcarmick. Spot height 205. Follow track all way through estate to Loch Pitcarmick in 4km on good track. ATV track continues towards summit petering out on its final slopes 1km from summit. Some heather by lines available to reach top easily. Back to car in the dark after 15km and 3hrs.nordicstar13/01/2016
The route worked well. Made a bit epic because we walked most of the way back in the dark. A great winters day. Dry and frosty with snow on the higher hills to the north.jenx13/01/2016

Tidied up the area of Marilyns. From Balloftwine. Got told off by a formidable woman for listening to Beethoven, rather than Mahler (honestly) whilst her terriers chewed a hole in my trousers. Think she may have been the lady of the manor, imperious enough.Martin R27/10/2014
Parked Ballintuim, walked up track to small dam and over to summit by wall using animal tracks where possible.AndrewFinnimore25/09/2014
With Dad from Countlich Bungalow. Past Loch Ordie and into Glen Oisinneach, past the shepherd's cottage and over to Glen Bucknie. We turned north and shortly after struck out across the heather towards Creag nam Mial. Returned via the track underneath the pylons further north. I agree with RHW below. A dull struggle through purgatorial heather. The view from the summit was excellent though ranging all the way from the hills above Crianlarich to the Lomonds in Fife.islamidget20/08/2014
from Baledmund. Pleasant tracks until the thrash from 042538 which is just knee high heather and bog, gently rising. Excellent bit of wilderness. 999th MarilynThearlaichdubh21/04/2014

Parked at bottom of a forest road at approx 090572. One of the most enjoyable sub 2000 hills yet.duchally10/02/2014
Started from near Baledmund (NO 005512). Good tracks to NO 041539, then final heather slopes to summit. Returned along boundary wall to SW, then tracks to Deuchary Hill and return.richtea504029/01/2011

from M Dubh. Heavy going over deep bracken and cloudberry patches. Lots of downs as well as ups. Solitary deer on other side of wall. Direct line to top cutting off a corner, but heather got even deeper and more tiring. Over wire fence and crags to top at 12.10.arranc07/06/2004
From Loch Ordie up Buckny Burn. One of the wood on LR 50,000 map does not exist. see http://www.rhb.org.uk/marhofn/marhofn106/thecaseoftheph2.htmEddie26/07/2003
