From the Mill CP in Blair Atholl. Over the footbridge and the A9, then along the Fincastle footpath as it pleasantly winds through the woods, before crossing the stream and wall at a gap at 868644, then following trods through the bracken and a narrow path through heather to the summit. | Nick Down1 | 16/03/2024 |
From Layby 49 and footpath through birch woods before crossing stream and wall onto heather/bracken covered moorland. Descent more directly NE to car. | benalder284 | 31/12/2023 |
From Blair Atholl using waymarked path (need to cross over the A9) but managed to walk too far through woods so decided to walk round to Tomnaraid and go up the hill from the south-east. Descent down the north-east side partly on trodden path. Bracken could be hard work in the summer. | Fife Walking | 29/10/2023 |
From Blair Atholl, up the path next door, but down the inside of the wall on a trod just visible at this time of year. | Eddie | 16/10/2023 |
Over the Garry and the A9 from Blair Atholl, the former by far the easiest and prettiest to cross. Followed the ROW to a large cairn then struck out westwards across heather and bracken to the summit. Returned along a narrow trail in a NE direction, which eventually reached a stone wall and woodland, from where the lower part of the ROW could be re-joined. | summitter | 11/08/2023 |
With Bob from the TUMPers CP. Good footpath most of the way. Good views. | Play2End | 08/10/2022 |
parked at Garryside (Blair Atholl) follow wall to a wall junction by the dam | BLACKHILL | 01/04/2022 |
Solo trip from Blair Atholl. Ideal time of year to climb this hill, with the bracken at maximum flatness. The northernmost of the three burns that drain the east side of the hill is a good route of ascent. Burns are preferable to the ridges where the heather is quite deep. Particularly fine view of Beinn a'Ghlo above Blair Atholl. | Invicta14 | 08/03/2021 |
From Garryside in Blair Atholl, over the bridge and across the A9. Followed the Fincastle Glen path a bit too far and crossed the walls where they join at 8663 6378. Descended by paths through heather and stayed on the West side of the wall right down to the A9. Very icy. | NormanW | 22/12/2020 |
Parked in Tulloch Road at Garryside. Followed the path behind the cottages and across the bridge. Signed path straight up the side of a wooden cottage after the bridge, across a stile, the A9, and another stile onto the forest track. Lovely forest walk up, then an easy crossing point for the wall at about NN 8663 6378. Grass and bracken with some tracks through, to the top. Great views all round. | LizH | 18/10/2020 |
From blair atholl and path through the woods. | robertphillips | 25/07/2020 |
A good hill walk from near the mill in Blair Atholl | jenx | 23/08/2018 |
Walking from Blair Atholl, with Jenx and Bryher. Past the Mill and over A9. Good paths to near crest of hill them faint tracks/stream lines to summit. More direct back if bit tricky wall/stream crossing to make. | nordicstar | 23/08/2018 |
From Balrobbie Farm, then back along the ridge to Creag a'Bhealaich. Great views in all directions. | richtea5040 | 02/11/2016 |
Parked at the water mill in Blair Atholl, a few yards from where my grandfather lived around 1912. Crossed the river and A9 at Garryside and climbed up through delightful birch woods before turning north, over wall and onto open boggy moor. Avoided most of the bracken on descent. | Campbell Singer | 31/08/2016 |
Up from SW, down to SE, probably not the usual route but ok. Good path from Tomanraid to Glen Fincastle. | alda | 15/02/2016 |
Easy parking at Garryside to NE. Most dangerous bit of the walk is crossing the A9. Path goes practically all the way to the summit. Heather near the summit but bits of sheep paths. Pleasant walk. | destaylor | 13/02/2012 |
