While staying in Kirriemuir with Nikko Lim, we parked at Glen Doll ranger car park

The route up Glen Clova was interesting (my first time, up that way). We bagged Broad Cairn (998m), my 200th Munro and Creag an Dubh-loch (983m), Nikko's 1st Munro Top. The views into Glen Muick and over Dubh Loch were something else. Long day though 9:16hrs all in. | chillyman8 | 18/02/2024 |

I thought the top of the large brain like rock on the summit plateau was higher than the large pointed one. The pointed one made for a fun ascent using the wobbly balanced stone step. | RichardM | 18/04/2023 |
Parked at the Spittal of Glenmuick (£5 cash/card in machine). Took the track on the N side of loch and up to above the Falls of the Glasallt from where a stalkers path goes up the SE ridge to Creag a Ghlas-uillt. From there the walk around the top of Allt an Dubh-loch valley opens up - Eagles Rock, Carn a'Choire Bhoidheach, Carn an t-Sagairt Beag, Carn an t-Sagairt Mor, Fafernie, Cairn Bannoch, Cairn of Gowal, Creag an Dubh-loch, Broad Cairn - and follows the track back down on the S side of Loch Muick. Long day with a cold wind but wonderful views. With Gillian, Tony, Richard and Denise, although R&D split off at times with different peak objectives, meeting up again finally below Broad Cairn. | richard69 | 18/04/2023 |

On the TGO Challenge with Sue - Hill 26, when we puzzled other Challengers by zigzagging up some of the Munro Tops in the area before heading up Broad Cairn. | Phreerunner | 18/05/2015 |
With friend. From Spittal of Glenmuick on bikes to Glas-allt-Shiel. Objective: all Munro tops of Broad Cairn and Cairn Bannoch. After Broad Cairn, Craig of Gowal, Crow Craigies, Fafernie, Cairn Bannoch, Cairn of Gowal (983m), Cairn of Gowal (991m). We finished with Creag an Dubh-loch. We reached the summit cairn and it was now becoming misty. We continued a little further NNW as the ground seemed as though it might be getting slightly higher. We saw a large boulder, the top of which might be higher than where the summit cairn is. On a walk many years previously I had seen this boulder and made attempts to climb it. We now headed down NW so as to get round the cliffs of Creag an Dubh-loch and reach Dubh Loch. Up to now the ground had made for easy walking with short grass or heather but now it was getting rougher and was generally quite hard going. It was a relief to reach the proper path and after that we came out of the mist and made rapid progress to Glas-allt-Shiel. | pwbellarby | 06/09/2013 |
