A bit of a disappointment on the summit ridge. Looked a great hill from the east but a real no no. | Play2End | 22/12/2023 |
From Buttergask Hill. Their is a track that follows the edge of the wood on the south side of Lintrose Hill. The track reaches the top corner of field. Once climbing over the fence there is a rough clearing in the wood that gets you up to the top. Followed a path on way back that goes back down through the wood and comes out at wooden gate that was about 100 yrds along from the corner of the field so in hindsight could have gone through that gate on way up stay on a path. Headed back north down to fields and then track leading to Over Buttergask Cottages on main road which I walked back along to Collace. 5 of 5 Tumps in anti-clockwise circuit of the King's Seat section of the Sid Laws. | Jossker | 02/12/2023 |
From Kirkton of Collace where there is good parking at the school. Over Bandirran Hill, Dunsinane Hill, Black Hill, King's Seat and Buttergask Hill. Descent NE on teeny path/heather, the NE up to forest edge where there is a convenient gate at approx 3236 7344. Out and back NE then N through spacious mature forest. Long grass but easy walking. Back to gate, track all the way down to Hillfoot. Road for 2km SW then roads and core paths round Saucher, past Kinrossie and back to Kirkton of Collace. Enjoyable 19km walk, 600m climb. | Lynnebe | 31/05/2023 |
Through forest on overgrown tracks from Ballo Glack to
North. Road is wide enough to park on. Slopes partially felled and we cut up these. HP is obvious on levelish ridge with tiny moss covered cairn and wooden fence posts. Great views. Continued SW to Lintrose Hill, tump. | Denise | 15/04/2023 |
From Balloglack Cottage on mainly overgrown forest tracks zigzag their way SSW to open grass/ moss/heather ridge of Gask Hill. Levelish summit with definite high point with wooden stakes and a tiny cairn almost lost in the stems of bilberry. Sunshine, SE breeze. Extensive views including Dundee and the Firth of Tay. | RichardM | 15/04/2023 |
Parking just at entrance to track for North Ballo back to go via track Balloglack Cottage zigzags upwards and over grown in places. Few stones in overgrown summit area. | N.Morters | 20/06/2021 |
Up tracks from Balloglack which are being reclaimed by the undergrowth. Excellent panorama to the north.
On to Buttergask Hill. | daviemore | 01/02/2021 |
Parked at the Ballo wood car park. Went N on the road a short distance to a gate, then downhill across a field and up on animal tracks past the wood and along to the summit. Cold breeze but good views. Went towards the woods, then descended steeply east, picking up a vehicle track through a couple of gates towards the road. | LizH | 15/12/2019 |
From Buttergask Hill. Easily up through pine trees, across the non-existent road, to the summit. Back through trees, the descended NW, and contoured round SW to track to Over Buttergask Cottages. | Minto | 16/07/2017 |
Weather fair. | MountainMac | 03/06/2017 |

From 24873 35031 up steeply along ridge. Descent by woods to fields (empty). | NormanW | 24/03/2017 |
Park 248 351 open fields then up steep slope to the top | robertphillips | 15/11/2015 |
Parked at Ballo wood and followed fields to final barbed wire fence, then straight up escarpment. On descent went via path through recently felled timber - not a good idea | Thearlaichdubh | 31/12/2014 |
Easier than map suggests, trees on northern slope all felled, lots of new quadbike tracks allow direct approach from north to treeline and along easy summit ridge. | alda | 02/12/2014 |
