From Mossdale along railway line then forest tracks to clear fell area west of summit. As with Richard M and Denise, machinery track then runs up to maybe 150m of summit (clearly seen on google maps) with last bit fairly easy underfoot. Returned same way.SS11/03/2024
Followed mae's route up through the trees from Loch Ken. Nearly stood on an adder in the heather on the final approach to the cairn. It was annoyed enough to hiss at me but thankfully nothing worse!Lindsay M01/10/2023

From mapped Upper Gairloch carpark to West after Shaw Hill. Initially followed stream NE slowly over open bramble and tussock -then thrashed through trees, some fallen, to mapped firebreak. Followed this (boggy tussocks) east to track. Above track, slope has been clear felled and partly replanted- (tiny saplings). A bulldozer track follows the mapped firebreak. When below summit, there is a short brash section then an open slope with heather, scattered self- planted pines, slabs and thick grass. Trig and nearby cairn of similar height. Sunny with great wild views.Denise 20/04/2022
From the W starting at Upper Gairloch on the Raider's Road. Initially rough going through forest and forest break to road at NX 6219,7314. Slope E of the road has been clear felled and a 'heavy forest machinery track' provides easy route to just below the summit. Trig located on a fine granite slab. Large cairn on slab just to E, I thought was fractionally higher. A fine summit and worth the effort.RichardM20/04/2022
Down W through trees from Bennan, track N for a short distance then cut through scrub & trees to parallel track, not too tricky to get up through vegetation, diverted slightly left at road end which led easily enough between crags. Nice summit, stuck to tracks on way back.agentmancuso20/09/2021
From Bennan Hill. Dropped down from there heading due W to pick up small mapped track, coming out eventually onto a main forest road at NX 6423 7262. Followed that to its terminus at NX 6329 7320, then through trees, some rough ground, some lovely slabs to walk on, some crags to scramble or avoid. Remains of fire tower first, then the top, then the trig. Fine Hill.jonglew26/02/2021
Parked at viewpoint, and went for o long walk around the woods taking in Cairn Edward on the way. Pretty straightforward once off the track. Just went up through trees, skirting crags as needed. Nice cairn as well as trig. With B and Rjenx20/10/2020
Parked at NX6423 7457. Along the road to approx NX644 744, and onto a mossy track to the monument. Couldn't find track continuing up, so crossed the Lowran Burn to pick up a good path on the E side at NX64511 73915, coming out on the forest track. Followed tracks to SE of summit, then picked our way through forest and rocky outcrops to the summit. Descended on the Lowran burn east path, then through widely spaced trees to the road at NX64632 74065, where there was parking nearby. (Should have followed 'mae', though monument interesting to see, descent route better)LizH25/09/2020
Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log: Can't remember exactly where we parked and started for this but (however route on attached screenshot) we took forest tracks for as long as we could and ended up at the base of the crags NX 63287 73182 (only shown on 1:25k). Mr TJR and the boys were ahead of me and took a route straight up, I sadly walked along the crags looking for a way up only finding one at the end at roughly NX 62923 73468. Found this last section a little tough. However when I got the top I was rewarded with the best view - loved it!thejackrustles10/05/2019
3rd and final tump of the day on a route from Mossdale to New Galloway. 1st Waterside Hill out and back then Bennan Hill followed by an awkward link through mossy larch trees to a track then to the end before climbing up via outcrops/slabs and tussocky ground. Top is quite atmospheric and marked by a trig pillar. Difficult descent via one ride with steep outcrops then a track then a forest ride that wasn't;eventually on tracks to the road continuing to New Gaìloway.Dazingdale19/10/2018
same route as mae woods track then up through trees.robertphillips16/12/2017
From small CP at NX645742. Easy woodland then path following east side of Lowran Burn to NX644737, then forest tracks and off-piste ascent as described by others.mae17/08/2016
From the forestry track to the east then up through tussocks and around outcrops. Much easier walking in the forest than in the forest breakborderterrier14/11/2015
After the Bennan hill subhump this turned out to be almost walk in the park by comparison. This is despite the howling gale and lashin rain, the long tedious forest track, the number of fallen trees in the forest and the lack of a clear path. From Bennan view car park NX65262 72367 there are forest tracks as far as NX 63282 73207 - either enter the trees there and follow the forest edge or stay outside the trees and follow the same edge before picking a way up through the crags to the summit.Martin R14/12/2013
Parked at Bennan viewpoint CP. Followed track to CEH. Hard going through the forest (didn't find the firebreak).chrisbien16/10/2010

From Bennan. mostly track. Loads of tussocks along the forest ride although once past the crags (you can walk either left or right to get past the crags) the walk is actually really nice! Looks like a walk which is done more often than highlighted on here.Katrina89blank
