Parked at the top of the housing estate to the SE. Straight up the track to the summit. | LizH | 14/08/2023 |
From the lane from the south, although my satnav tried to get me there along the lane from the N. Easy walk. | Minto | 01/07/2023 |
first of 4 while visiting the Hastings area. Best if the lot. Parked in a residential street and walked up the lane to the trig point which can be accessed from the viewfinder thing. 10 minutes there and back, you can park pretty much next to the trig point if desired. | ytfckent | 22/04/2023 |
Walked up from Hastings Station | trimarc2 | 20/01/2023 |
Parked on road in housing estate to the SW. Quick walk up to toposcope and trig point. Used cleared path to trig point. Staying with family nearby. | richard69 | 08/10/2022 |
A short saunter over from the nearby car park to this area of transmitters with good views north and east-wards. A fine day, easy underfoot and straightforward navigation. | JOHNS | 27/02/2022 |
Possible to drive very close to top. Walked round toposcope and then to trig, to which a path has been cleared. | PeterD | 29/11/2021 |
Solo. From Hastings Old Town. Sunny & clear. Summit trigpoint covered in dense gorse, but good views from track nearby. Onwards along footpath to north to St Helen's. | millionmts | 13/08/2021 |
A divert from my Hastings to Rye walk. Walked round toposcope and trig point. | PhilipChaston | 11/07/2021 |
From the N. Parked in wide junction on byway (Mill Lane) at TQ 8425 1239 - Continued on foot up byway (too rough for cars) & easily between fence rails to trig point & summit toposcope. Brambles not much of a problem in early April. (S) | gerrybowes | 13/04/2021 |
Can drive to within 50m. Viewing platform corresponds with the summit grid ref. Trig nearby with path from track - not what I would consider to be 'overgrown'. Disappointing viewpoint. | PGCE | 24/11/2020 |
A bonus bag while on cycle tour of East Sussex with Geraldine. Last on my list of East Sussex humps. | Pete West | 19/10/2020 |
Hump bagging drive around the South East before moving North. | atreides7887 | 08/08/2020 |
Walk up from Hastings Old Town. Nice views around coast towards Rye. | jedthehumanoid | 02/02/2020 |

Ore - St Helen's - North's Seat - Fairlight Glen - East Hill - Ore | Mark Jackson | 05/05/2018 |
From the Fairlight Visitor Centre car park at TQ 86037 11620. Headed north to the road, then following it west on a muddy bridleway next to the road. At a junction I turned north again, picking up the country walk trail west to the summit area. Trig point hard to access as defended by a painful combination of gorse, brambles and nettles - but I made it! Easiest access is from the west beyond the viewfinder at TQ 84316 11921. I then headed south by various RoWs to join the Saxon Shore Way east - by far the best part of the walk. Then north past the radar station back to the car park in 1.75hrs. Parked in Beacon Rd, Ore- found trig at top buried in gorse, visited viewpoint, then changed into shorts for a nice walk round Fairlight Cove. Some good views and interesting scenery but very country park, finger posts every few 100 m. Glad I did this walk mid-week. | pwheeler | 22/05/2017 |
Easy walk from Ore station with Chris. No sign of the trig point - must be buried in gorse / brambles. | Richard | 13/05/2017 |
With K. Drove virtually to summit. Unsatisfying. Didn't make me happy. | Ashley | 30/04/2017 |
Climbed up to the summit toposcope via Beacon Road and then eventually found the Trigpoint deep in brambles and gorse with a little help from Google Maps. No views as very foggy. | JohRvs | 30/12/2016 |
Walked up from Mill Lane wearing wellies, over trousers and thorn proof jacket on a damp grey Monday afternoon. | Dugswell2 | 05/09/2016 |
From Country Park car park | squeegs | 29/08/2016 |
1/8 First of Eight Hill bagging in south east on windy day (Norths Seat/Willingdon Hill/Wilmington Hill/Firle Beacon/Cliffe Hill/Newmarket Hill/Boulder Hill/Ditchling Beacon) | Fergalh | 06/02/2016 |
Trig point probably at natural high point, toposcope on possibly slightly higher mound. Misty today so no views. Everywhere exceedingly wet and muddy. | RichardM | 31/01/2016 |
Parked close to viewfinder area. Trig just about accessible, but looks lower than viewfinder. | RobertP | 13/12/2015 |
Walked up byway from North. | rhalstead | 17/10/2015 |
Ouch, ouch, ouch. Found and touched trig hidden in brambles and spikey plants. Glad that I had jeans on. Bagged view point too as not sure which is higher. Parked pretty close to summit. | assynt_bob | 09/09/2015 |
Went to park in Hastings Country Park car park but did not want to risk not paying £3 parking charge so parked at top of Mill Lane and walked up lane to viewing point. Could be highest point but looked man made. Trig point just to the north obscured by gorze and dead brambles. Touched trig but would not want to try in summer when vegetation in full growth. | mntainman | 10/03/2015 |
Short steep walk up the rough track at end of Beacon Road to find trig lurking in brambles. In 1787, General Roy set up a 32-feet high scaffold tower here and using a long range theodelite conducted a triangulation survey with two places in France (which could also critically be seen from Dover Castle) enabling the British and French governments to produce compatible maps and charts that made international sea trade much safer, and therefore more profitable. Its success resulted in the setting up in 1791 of the Ordnance Survey. | Chris Pearson | 04/03/2015 |
Drove up road to Hastings Country Park. Trig deep in the brambles again! | citygent | 23/01/2015 |
From CP through a very muddy field. Should have driven up! Trig completely buried in the brambles. | tim747 | 12/11/2014 |

Drove up. Trig totally obscured by undergrowth and some bushwhacking was required. Also visited the viewpoint. It's hard to say which is the higher. | Chris Peart | 27/06/2014 |
Viewing platform definitely higher. Got boots covered in slurry and stank the car out. | simon and co | 07/03/2014 |
Trig just keeping his head above the sea of brambles.. got within 3 ft of and consoled myself with a mouthful of blackberries | stig_nest | 22/09/2013 |
From CP and picnic area. Visited viewpoint and trig. | chrisbien | 25/04/2013 |
£1.00 pay and display car park. Mizzling rain. Muddy WDP to a bramble thicket surrounding the OS column with 1999 tag. Large topograph showing 590m to John O'Groats, etc. | arranc | 01/03/2013 |
The trig point wasn't too hard to find amongst the bushes. | JohnStoneham | 18/11/2012 |
Height barriered carpark. Plenty of blackberries at trig point. | Martin R | 21/08/2011 |
Viewpoint platform seemed higher than the land around the trig. | signyred | 12/05/2011 |
Parked at Fairlight Place Car Park and then descended to near the beach at Hastings Country. From there made my way back up in Glorious sunny weather to the top. Visited Trig pouint and viewing area, the latter having much better views. | garyhoney | 20/04/2011 |
Easy and pleasant sunny stroll with my wife and 3 year old daughter from the car park to SE. Agree that the viewing platform seems higher, but obviously visited the trig too just in case. | wheresthepath | 09/10/2010 |
Good views from here, drove right up to top and parked just 15m away! | Nick | 03/04/2010 |
Viewing area seems higher than trig but may be man made. Trig 30m away in small clearing | destaylor | 05/12/2008 |
Trig point in the middle of gorse but there is a faint path to it from the bigger track. | clivevilla | 17/09/2008 |
