Solo run from Ponstic dam .. taking in Merthyr Common and Pen March .. Lot better than expected with some good trods to follow and mostly dry underfoot .. interesting area with some impressive sink holes .. ran around a bit to ensure I got the bags | milejunkie | 02/05/2023 |

Parked by Pontsticilll Dam and walked down the road to the start of the bridleway. The path goes under the railway line then took a right uphill to Castell-y-nos. Direct line across easy terrain, roughly following the boundary took me to Pwll Mere. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 27/11/2021 |

From Dolygaer. Circuit of Pant y Creigiau, Bryniau Gleision, Cefn yr Ystrad, Twyn Ceilog, Pen March and Merthyr Common. (Too foggy to go scrambling about for Cwar yr Ystrad) | Arbie | 06/08/2020 |
Parked in the Hawthorns in Pantcadifor and followed the footpath out, from here I headed north through a farm (there appears to be no right of way here but I was not challenged) to reach what appears to be a gas works once on the other side I headed northeast for the top a clearly visible bump on the west side of Pwll Mere. One hour 40 minutes for the Three and half miles which also took in Pen March. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 21/03/2020 |

With E. Parked by Water Works entrance at Pontsticill and took steeply rising path on opposite side of road uphill under Brecon Mountain Railway onto Merthyr Common. Lots of sheep tracks so used GPS to take direct line to summit by Pwll Mere which had dried up. Then onto Pen March and second top. Return same route. Very quiet. Saw no other walkers. | Beeliner | 14/07/2019 |
4/7 More tussocks, 4th county top, still not eaten by a man eating tussocks though, lots of horse bones on way up, they must have been less lucky | penbet | 15/06/2019 |
From Dolygaer. Circuit of Pant y Creigiau, Bryniau Gleision, Cwar yr Ystrad, Cefn yr Ystrad, Twyn Ceilog, Pen March and Merthyr Common. Shouldn't have bothered with the last three as it was a thankless bogfest for uninspiring 'summits'. | welshyboyo | 27/05/2019 |

Wandered around in the tussocks with gps to find the high point. Exciting. | ngthack | 18/08/2018 |
Park at the start of the lane leading to Garth House. Don't drive up as no turning space. I did and had to reverse 400 mts. Nant Tor Gwyn difficult to cross following heavy rain. Otherwise very easy across wet moorland. | Campbell Singer | 02/04/2018 |
From the start of the lane leading to Garth House. Fp not marked on map but signposted. Good walking this time of year despite surface water. | Jemma Singer | 02/04/2018 |

Pleasnt walk across rough ground from Pontsticill; on to Pen March. | jonglew | 25/11/2016 |
Walked up from Garth on tracks initially, then pony trails helped confuse me, but got there eventually. With Pen March. Very wet in places. | PeterD | 31/07/2016 |
Circular route from Pontsticill, via ROW under railway bridge, then cross country to Merthyr Common, Pen March and Cefn Yr Ystrad, back via track and inscribed stone. A nice walk over surprisingly remote area. | Cas-gwent | 17/05/2016 |

From the water treatment works near Pontsticill. It is not as easy as it looks on the map. Much of it is pathless with parts having man-eating tussocks. | clivevilla | 25/06/2015 |

Walked from Pontsticill Water Works. Under railway and through quarry to moorland. Visited Twynau Gwynion on the way to try and find OS Bolt. Return after the two hills via Twyn Pwll Morlais (another OS Bolt location). | Dusty | 13/06/2015 |

Parked in layby by the Pontsticill village sign opposite the water treatment works (just before the weak bridge). Paths under railway up to metal gate in stone wall onto access land. Then only sheep tracks. Used compass to find Pwll Morlais then top, by Pwll Mere - both dry as result of recent hot dry weather. Navigation tough (as don't see either Pwll until virtually on top of them and almost became a GPS convert - but not quite! | Hillsidenick | 26/07/2013 |

Walked up from Twyn yr Arian to SE. be careful if you do the Pen March top before this one - there's a small pond between the two points before you reach the larger Pwll Mere (which is shaped like an amphitheatre) - don't get the two muddled up! | wheresthepath | 22/04/2011 |
