Parked in Kingsway Road and then missed the path with the rock so ended up within the reservoir area and did not fancy climbing the pointy metal security fence. Back to main road and took field edge instead. Crossed another field and made our way to wild summit area.Crumblie221/03/2024
As others, parked on Kingsway Road & along gravel track to the obvious gap in security fence. As mentioned by Moorponder, area was massively overgrown so continued another 20m to start of a motorbike track just beyond high point of gravel path - N. along bike track for about 90m & then took right fork along a fainter path to within 30m or so of the high point; this appears to lie by a large rounded bush & patch of bramble.gerrybowes09/07/2023
Parked in Kingsway. Followedgravel path like others. Don't take the first obvious path (near the fence) it heads up the right of the hedge and much overgrown with nettles & the crop (rape). They merge higher up anyway. The second obvious path just short of the pylons is grassy all the way to the summit thicket.Moorponder05/06/2023
Followed Wheelsy Easy to follow route, unexpected views, worth a visit on a clear daymatty1971b06/04/2023
path along southside of the compound fence and field edge up to the brambles and top.robertphillips25/03/2023
Wheelsy route. Interesting view, Tyneside one way - Wearside the other.Wycombe Wanderer21/01/2023

On own. Parked on Kentucky Road and followed route as described by Wheelsy.Beeliner17/10/2022
Parked in Kingsway Road. Popular dog walking area for locals. Track by large boulder goes past the fenced off reservoir. Take the track north over rough wild ground to the high point. Much easier than I was expecting. Solo.Dangerous Dave02/01/2022
Parked in the first street off Kentucky road and walked back up road to the path that takes you to the rough ground where the top can be found.WAYNE ROWLETT14/10/2021
Parked at very start of Kingsway Road, then across road and along good gravelly path not shown on the OS map which follows the line of the pylons. Once past the reservoir there is a gap where the security fencing has collapsed - passed through this and into stubbly field. Track into grassy/scrubby land led to impenetrable mass of brambles marking HP. Back the same way.Wheelsy27/08/2021
From the road to the east and through the broken down fence and skirted part of a wheat field.clivevilla04/06/2021
Parked in residential Kingsway road, went west across main road, followed tarmac track around s then w side of reservoir enclosure, then through a broken fence, around field edge, to large mass of bramble, in which we thrashed. Great urban views of twinkling lights under a crescent moon.Denise 17/12/2020
Exactly as Moorsman's excellent parking suggestion and route. Summit is in an impenetrable tangle of dense brambles which we made at least some of the way into. Levelish. Dark.RichardM17/12/2020
Dedicated roadside parking down Kingsway Road (SR5 4BY). Cross main road and walk 20m right. An excellent stone path leads right up to the col. When you reach it look right and see that the security fencing has been broken. Pass through the gap and follow the field edge. Cross into the next field on the left via a track and the summit mound is visible on your left.moorsman05/09/2020
Round field edges from the east.vegibagger22/05/2020
Started to head downhill towards marked summit location when realised entry was only 6 figure estimate. Various candidates for highpoint within 90m contour ring west of disused quarry. Highest point looked to be amongst bramblesmntainman10/12/2019
Room for 1 car roadside at NZ 3533 6005. Followed compound fencing along S side to NZ 35121 60016, then took a near enough direct line to the HP - not an obvious one; got it as NZ 35017 60199, but very subjective.jonglew31/08/2019
3 of 3 on 33 mile bike ride from ashington to sunderland. Came off the road to the west called downhill lane and over fence. Up through steep cutting to summit. Great viewsThe-Z-Man01/08/2019
Ran from Hylton Castle Road and up onto the ploughed field. Difficult summit to determinemadaddo09/10/2018
Parked in Kingsway Rd to east off Hilton Lane. Across grassy open space then into woods towards pylons.Campbell Singer22/05/2018
AJ's route, which begins just south of the Sunderland sign on Hylton Lane. Large boulders guard the gravel track. A few scratches and nettle stings incurred whilst trying to find the marginally highest point by the light of a rather good sunset.Nick Down117/10/2017
As per AJ . No crop worries.Mark Sims10/05/2017
Same as AJ, gravel track then path up once past end of perimeter fence. HP in open area with trees.PeterD08/04/2017
Followed Aye Jimmy's route - good find :)the_adam25/10/2016

From SE & up gravel track. Thankfully van was not burnt out when I got back to it.ngthack26/02/2016
From SE, good track S side of resr to end of resr fence then path thru brambly grassland. Level summit with spot ht in arable field, knoll at field edge at former trig pillar location, and bush to east. In dark straightforwardRHW11/12/2015
Parked on the south east side and 354599. Followed the gravel track past the rubbish and piles of burnt out material. Is this really a 'top'? Continue up the side of the reservoir fence and head towards what appears to be the high points. Solo.bolton02/09/2015
From road to east. through large 3' high winter wheat fields.arranc24/06/2015
From Hylton Lane to SE at NZ 3535.5996. Easy walk along gravel track beneath pylons to end of reservoir fence, through gap onto open heath with paths. No need to go near crops.Aye Jimmy27/05/2015
Parked by gate to reservoirs. Don't try to go through the compound its fully fenced. Went through crop fields. Awkward one.simon and co21/05/2015
From West Boldon via Downhill Laneafoster18/04/2015
Parked on Hylton lane at SE corner of reservoir complex. Could easily have driven up track running W, but glad I walked it as there were several vans sorting out the electic pylons; good path to summit.GordonAdshead11/03/2015
From Brockley Whins Metro via West Boldon, then back to East Boldon Metro. Easy access via the road to the north-west.Richard14/09/2014
Parked next to electric substation then walked across the stubble field to the summit.Dugswell231/08/2014
Along path just south of the reservoir and through what remains of the fence. Several paths to the top which is just rough ground. Good views of the Nissan plant. No sign of anyone else but it was only 2 degrees and 11 o'clock in the morning.Newton Maximus20/03/2013
Parked next to reservoir, went through open gate and to top of compound. Hurdled fence and ploughed through rape seed in field, so much for rough ground! Estimate of top due to crops.nordicstar20/07/2012
Parked easily beyond power lines to NNW. Then cycle path to the 'gap' in the fence - irrelevant really as its onto open pasture. Then several paths to top. Urban regeneration probably - all VERY safe and secure.destaylor23/06/2012
Parked next to electric substation and followed field edges up to the top, got soaking wet legs! Should have took the path up from the south but this felt more adventurous!Nick22/06/2011
For once the reservoir is not the top-most point!signyred28/02/2011
Parked on Hylton lane and field edge to high point,no burnt out cars and all very quiet, not bad views at all.asbown14/03/2009
I parked on the edge of the Downhill estate to the south east then took path south of the resevoir before heading north onto the rough ground. It all looked very peaceful today.Father Ted16/10/2008
There's a path to the south of the resevoir that leads to the open ground. As said, This estate has a bad reputation for teenage vandals and lots were drinking beer on the east side of the road. Mountain Bikeable.Jhimmy31/05/2008
Park in field access and walk round edge of field up to mast then across field to overgrown field at highest point watch out for rocks hidden in long grass.chris creedy30/09/2006
Park on Hylton Lane. After dodging burnt-out cars & gangs of hoodlums, squeeze through gap at SW end of radio mast compound. Walk up field edge to high point. You can see the sea from here, whilst wondering if your car is being vandalised...wheresthepath08/07/2006
