From good parking on Grange Fell Road. On way home from weekend in the lakes. Stretch of the legs for me and Rosie. In hindsight it was a good idea because M6 was horrid. | Longwojo | 02/07/2023 |
First hill on my Cistercian Way pilgrimage | Alphaville199 | 15/06/2023 |
With Sue from layby nr golf course. along track past reservoir and paths to Hampsfell wainwright summit and tower then true summit on limestone pavement. Return over high ground to Fell End and car. 4km clear day. | Frank | 02/04/2023 |
Parked in the lay-by (SD 395 779) suggested in Wainwright's Outlying Fells walk number 15. Then followed his route clockwise (but over by the Beacon on Fell End first). Visited the Hospice, then the HP on the wet and slippery limestone pavement, before descending to High Farm, and along the convenient farm road to Spring Bank. After return to the lay-by, I headed for Wart Barrow, following road past the golf club and cemetery, to join Wart Barrow Lane at the road junction. Walked along the narrow lane to the public footpath at SD 388 777, taking it for 350m, then diagonally up to rocky summit of Wart Barrow. Back the same way.
7.3km with 260m ascent, taking 1h 50m. | silveracorn_alan | 27/10/2022 |
Second part of day's walk, Grange to Cark via Cartmel via Hampsfield Hospice. Limestone pavement much in evidence. Excellent 'home-made' guidance tool on the small tower directing you to summits and features well worth a try. | JOHNS | 03/09/2022 |

Large, potholed, gravel pull-off between BW and PFP at SD391805. BW via Hampsfield Hall then PFP to N end of trees at SD398808, then S up grass/limestone PFP to Hampsfell, returned same way but used PFP instead of BW not recommended, wet, cow churned and well cow patted. | Isbjorn | 08/10/2021 |
Aim for Hampsfell Road (LA11 6BG). Drive up, passing the hotel on the left. A short distance after this the road widens out as it drops down a small dip to a good parking spot. Good road to here, no danger to vehicles. Follow the signpost/hordes from here. | moorsman | 14/07/2021 |
