Walked from Linn of Dee then up Beinn Bhreac and the west top and across a boggy plateau to Beinn a’ Chaorainn. It was very windy with a significant wind chill and showers of sleety rain. Due to the weather I didn’t bother with the top but headed down to the relative quiet of the Lairigh an Laoigh and down Glen Derry where the winds were lighter and the sun made a few appearances. Time taken 6 hours 53 minutes including stops for 18.87 miles. | isabelle | 03/10/2023 |
Cycled to Derry Lodge and then walked up Glen Derry and climbed Beinn a' Chaorainn and Beinn a' Chaorainn Bheag from Lairig an Laoigh. Returned to Derry Lodge via Beinn Bhreac. | geoffh12 | 21/09/2023 |
Circuit with camping from Linn of Dee taking in tops on E side then W side of Glen Derry. Climbed Meall an Lundain from south, trackless terrain, continued along ridge to climb Beinn Bhreac and Beinn Bhreac West Top. Crossed quite boggy ridge to climb Beinn a' Chaorainn Bheag, bypassed Beinn a' Chaorainn itself on descent to high point of Lairig an Laoigh. Steep climb to Stob Coire Etchachan, and easy ground to Beinn Mheadhoin SW Top and the excellent vantage point of Stacan Dubha. Descended to Loch Etchachan and climbed Creagan a' Choire Etchachan, across to Sgurr an Lochan Uaine. Bypassed Derry Cairngorm on way to Little Cairngorm and then Carn Crom. Descent to Derry Lodge and back to Linn of Dee. Quite cold biting wind for much of route but views generally good with most summits reasonably clear for much of the time. | RobertP | 30/08/2023 |
Excellent day out but a tough day also, weather superb. Great day with Barry, done as route of 4 Munros. | Kevthecat | 19/05/2023 |
Ochils Mountaineering Club Meet at Muir Cottage, west of Braemar for the Easter Weekend.
On Saturday 8th April, I cycled with Clare Andrews from Muir Cottage to Derry Lodge. Then we hiked up to Beinn Bhreac West Top (928m) Munro Top, then east onto Beinn Bhreac (930m) Munro. Long slog north across the plateau, saw some evidence of voles, then onto Beinn a' Chaorainn Bheag (1016m) Munro Top, followed by Beinn a' Chaorainn (1080m) Munro. Finding a safe descend route into Glen Derry took a little bit of time, but once the path was found it was just an awfully long walk back to the bikes at Derry Lodge and cycled home. 10:20hrs for a 30km day, I was thoroughly knackered, spent Sunday sitting in a cafe | chillyman8 | 08/04/2023 |
Walked over from W Top. | 187lenny | 16/10/2022 |

Bike and hike of Beinn a'Chaorainn & Beinn Bhreac, with John and wee Islay (springer spaniel). Cycled to Derry Lodge (with Islay leading the way), then did the route clockwise - starting with the long walk along pretty Glen Derry, then up Beinn a'Chaorainn, and then across the Dead Marshes (heh) to Beinn Bhreac, before dropping down the boggy descent path to the Glen Derry path, back to the Lodge and cycle out. Weather went from sunny during the walk-in, to raining on the ascent, windy and rainy between the summits, and then back to sunny on the walk and cycle out. Total time 6h 10min. | mproudfoot | 21/05/2022 |

From Beinn a'Bhuird (to NE), via Beinn a' Chaorainn (to N). Biked up Glen Quoich. Track re-routed from NO 1018 9208 (very steeply uphill) to NO 0873 9250 (very steeply down) - rough stony track for just over a mile. Too rough for me to bike, massive effort to push. Good surface next mile. Car park meter currently covered - free parking. | carole engel | 07/07/2020 |
From Linn of Dee Car Park (NO 06278 89774). Good track to Derry Lodge, good track/path up Glen Derry before taking the uphill path marked by a small cairn at NO 04536 94998. Very wet and boggy underfoot most of the way to the Munro summit. Quick detour to the west top before returning to Linn of Dee by the same route. | david230201 | 05/10/2019 |

Beautiful walk in from Linn of Quoich and up heathery SE slopes of Meall an Lundain in the snow. Easier wintry walking from there onto Beinn Bhreac and the W top. Direct line SE back down to Glen crossing Poll Bhat, then the long walk back. | jenx | 23/01/2019 |
