Green route from Braeval car park. Good path up through trees just before stream at 538 013. Gate onto open fell. Track over West Top then up to the Marilyn summit, then trig. Solo.Dangerous Dave16/03/2024
Not sure there will ever be a right time of year to do these three tops. If there is a path leading to the bealach between the C of M and the West top then I couldn't find it as I floundered through tussock and heather. Thankfully there are faint paths up to the top of each from the bealach. Definitely not the right time of year for the North Top as all of its flanks are covered in shoulder high bracken.Ben Rinnes25/07/2023
Ascent in the dark starting at 5.30. Followed wrong stream and ended up going up loose conglomerate crag rather than bracken wading. Not advised. Still good view down to the lights and crescent moon from the summit.davechaffey28/11/2022
Turned off the big track onto a little path at NN538013, that's just before the stream and the bend to the left. This path is unmapped but just about visible on Google Earth...no bracken issues at all.Pete R01/10/2022
From the Braeval car park. Up the transmitter track to 265m asl, then over the fence and bashed up through the thick heather. Couldn't see any viable routes leaving the track lower down. Worth it for the excellent views. Essentially the same route on descent but managed to find a couple of grassy sections avoiding the worst of the heather.Owen B22/09/2022
Using Walkhighlands route from free CP to SSE. Route thru' forest completely blocked by windthrow at NN 5360 0135. Continued on track to forest edge at NN 5367 0180 - over rough moorland - long grass, heather, bracken, tussocks - to top. Good path between the two hillscarole engel17/09/2022

Traverse of ridge. Unpleasant walking, but great views.thekirkie pirate28/12/2021
From the Braeval forestry commission car park ... followed the tracks up to a point approx at grid ref 538014 where a path takes off to the right. Indistinct at first, but then a better path leading up through the woods to a gate. Then out of the woods, but still on a path - all the way to the summit. great views in temp inversion today!!clanbonham18/12/2021
Forest tracks and paths from Braeval car park. Path follows true left of stream from bend of forest track around NN538014.willyross15/10/2021
From Braeval CP, route as per dbb.garyhoney29/08/2021
With K&M. After faulty start from Braeval CP found the paths up to West Top and on to trig and North Top. Descended to Rob Roy Way via Bealach Cumhang to avoid incoming rain storm. Tall and thick bracken means August not ideal month. Previous visit in December.lordtonult12/08/2021
Starting at the Braeval car park, near Aberfoyle and tacking the forestry tracks northwest toward the transmitter then up to Craig of Monievreckie West Top. There was a strong northerly wind as I made my way to Craig of Monievreckie proper, then east along the ridge to the North top and finishing on Creag a’ Bhacain. I returned to the car via the John Muir’s Way. Blue skies all day with great views in all directions, 3:30hrs all in.chillyman805/04/2021
Round of West, Main and North tops from Braeval CP. Carried on over rough ground to Bealach Cumhang and returned via Rob Roy Way. First section of Rob Roy Way badly churned up by mountain bikes.TRG31807/12/2020
Second visit of the yearColin Crawford06/12/2020
From Braeval car park via forest tracks then footpath up valley through woods from bend which leads over west top to the sunnit.Winterfloodian25/09/2020
From Braeval CP via West Top. Nice track which becomes pretty non-existent after the summit if you continue along the ridge.sclater29/07/2020
Parked at the Forestry car park on A81, followed tracks north and west, then straight up the steep face just west of the cliffs. Not recommended in Summer as there must be a vaste swath of bracken on this face. From here straight up and over to the top.Simon Winton29/02/2020
Fifth visit but for the first time I managed a hill on 29th February. Usual route from BraevalColin Crawford29/02/2020
Took track up from parking spot at 541008. Followed track up to the mast (at least where the mast is marked on the OS map though it doesn't seem to exist any more), went through a gate and followed sheep tracks for a while, a bit of heather bashing at one point then more intermittent tracks.Just before the final steep pull up to the summit which is very heathery it is worth contouring around below the summit to a valley between 2 tops where a defined path leads to the summit (however we only found this on the way down). Followed this path on the way down until it came to an end then a bit of cross country down the valley to the track at a lower point than we left it. Turned right went back up the path to the gate, then took a descent path (signposted steep descent but it wasn't that steep) down to a junction with a main track and a path. Took the left fork and followed it down to the Rob Roy Way track which led back along the side of the golf course and back to the car parkJulieB01/01/2020
Parked at forest walks car park (13:10) and followed path and then tracks to 538013. A path leaves the track about 50m before the bridge and goes up through the woods right of the stream to a gate and open country. The path continues pleasantly to the 393 top and the main summit. Cold, still, clear weather, wonderful views. Less distinct paths lead round the NW of the 393 peak for the descent. Finish 15:05dbb19/11/2019

Here for the trigpoint - Menteith Hill. TP:UK log: Took a route found on walk highlands which proved to be a excellent one. https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26171. Parking at NN 54148 00666 and taking forest trails to NN 53791 01321 where a small path leads up the side of the burn to a gate NN 53931 01488. From the gate you head up through the ferns to the spot height at NN 54357 01779 where your heart sinks as you have to descend and ascend back up to the trigpoint. Absolutely stunning day and the views at the top were brilliant.thejackrustles13/07/2019
The Dugswell route, taking the forestry tracks up and the green route down. The start of the path by the stream is quite clear, in between baby sitkas and just before two broom bushes. The path is good all the way, clear of bracken and other vegetables. It is easy to follow over the south west top, down and then up to the summit. I made the mistake of trying a route down the valley, a tempting clear path at first, then a trying bracken bash to pick up the outward path before the gate. It would be easier to go back over the west top.Gill05/07/2019
From FC Braeval CP, NN541006. Followed 'green' markers, until they started to go downhill, then up L, below band of crags, on forest tracks. No sign of the reported 'path' so onwards and upwards to a T-Junction and a path R, to a 'steep slope ahead' sign. Then 600m along old fence, NE, until cut E across to base of re-entrant at NN544019, where a good path was found to summit. Descended this path to see where it went, but it expired in bogs just below the base of the re-entrant. A bash SW down bogs, heather, bracken, nettles, holes and ticks ensued until met forest fence where was forced up to a gate and the elusive 'path', which emerged, indistinctly, and unmarked, onto my upward forest track, at NN5378901312. Do you fancy trying to find the part of the 'path' in the middle?Isbjorn26/06/2019
From Braeval uphill via Creag Dhubh then along to summit over rough ground. Back over the West Top and down the path I missed during the ascent.Chris Mac22/06/2019
Followed the red markers up from Lodge Forest visitor centre until reaching the viewpoint. At NN 535 019 went through a gate heading East across very rough tussocks & heather. Probably not the best route but saved climbing the fence. On own.MorecambeMonkey26/05/2019
With Malky and Jackie in loop with Beinn Dearg. Calm and decent views at first, raining heavily for last hour. Very warm. Rounsfell02/03/2019
From the Braeval carpark, up through the forest tracks, then via a wee path running alongside the burn up to the two tops of Craig of Monievreckie, then along the Monteith Hills ridge to Creag a' Bhacain. Then down to the Rob Roy Way and back to the car. A pleasant 3hr round on a cloudy afternoon.summitter16/02/2019
From the forest car park at Braeval. Followed the green route to 538013. A track leads off to the right just before the burn. Onto the west top with CM. 2.25 hoursbolton04/12/2018
4 top round from the braeval cp craig of monievreckie west top, craig of monievreckie, craig of monievreckie north top, creag a bhacain, along ridge and back along rob roy way to cp.robertphillips13/11/2018
From car park on the A81 following green markers and to Dugswell helpful mention of faint path of left 50 metres before sharp left hand bend in track as it crosses the steam. Up this little path through trees and up on to the SW ridge. ThenSW-NE walk along all 4 Summits inc the Marilyn. Very dusk by time I got to the far one at NE end about 5.00pm and 4km walk back along path and track to the south in the dark.vegibagger12/11/2018

Solo. From Forestry Commission carpark at Braeval. Up path (marker pole with green band at start) that goes up to forest track that carries Rob Roy Way. Then forest tracks to NN537013. From there followed a narrow path going NE, as suggested by Dugswell. Took branch that goes round W side of Craig of Monievreckie West Top to col between West Top and main top and up to the summit of Craig of Monievreckie. Returned to the col and went up narrow path that goes over the West Top. Went to summit of West Top which is slightly to NW of path. Continued on path – it joins path used on ascent. Hence back to the start using the outward route. A beautiful sunny afternoon with excellent views out to the Cobbler and much more.pwbellarby23/09/2018
Circuit from Braeval.chalky195309/11/2017
Up from Braeval Forest car park, zig zag up tracks to high point then direct assault (mistake in wet slippy weather). Geocache on Cairn. Down by path/ burn back to tracks via head height bracken..ho hum...N.Morters04/11/2017
Another slack day marshalling so wandered up here with one more of the crew and we were rewarded with a quite spectacular full panorama and views as far as Arran.Alex C05/07/2017

All very straightforward using Dugswell's route, even in the gathering dusk. No views because still misty and damp.jenx16/12/2015
With Jenx from CP to East of Golf course. Used Douglas' route. Good track then path up beside burn, went all the way to summit. Topped out at dusk. Similarly easy descent.nordicstar16/12/2015
2nd Marilyn of the day. Followed Doug's route for easy bagGallovidian20/11/2015
Glad I read HB reports first, or might have taken diretisimo route. New path signs, but no plan displayed. Followed green path (uphill branch after start) to upper forest roads. Then left and up round nose of hill to soft underbelly. Look for path on right (it was somewhat overgrown but still well defined and followable). My grid ref was NN 53790 01274. Path starts at a gully branching right from small forest road, going up ridge on left. Obviously a well used route - why isn't there a plan of the walks (including this) in the forestry car park?henryfm22/08/2015
Good parking off road. Followed the forest track to a fire break, then across the bracken for the final push. Lovely views.Play2End25/03/2015
from the braeval foresry car park, followed the green route then path to summit.robertphillips28/11/2014
From carpark on A81 up tracks and undulating SW ridge to summit. Bit rough going in places.AndrewFinnimore29/10/2014
