Straightforward ascent from Spey Reservoir. Gale force winds stopped me from anything high today....Richard Tait13/03/2024
Ascend from south as stopping in inverekie estate cottage. Hit snow at 550m with herds of deer. Then Continue NW to pictish fort through somevery nice woodland. Encountered some quite deep snow. Then return via forest trials back to start.cjo25/02/2024

Parked in a lochside lay-by E of Sherrabeg and followed road to Glenshero Lodge. Past the fallow deer and along track until out of the forest SW of Meall an t-Sithein. Followed deer fence upwards then through open woodland to the summit and a White-tailed Eagle welcoming our arrival. Back to the deer fence and onwards to Creag Ruadh, which affords superb views down Glen Laggan. Down to the craggy E Top then fence-following through open woodland to Black Craig. A marked FP crosses this and gives good access to the impressive ruins of Dun-da-Iam before dropping the forestry road below that leads back to the vehicular road to Sherrabeg. 4 hrs.summitter04/11/2023
From Sherrabeg by west side of stream then WSW through newer woodland between 2 older woodlands to ridge then SE to Creag Ruadh. Return by same route. A fine day with strong easterly wind. Extensive panoramic views. Two impressive red deer stags grazing on meadow by the car.Vin18/10/2023

Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log: Same route as caroleengel - very welcome waypoints. Parked on verge at Sherrabeg and through nearby gate, then to gate at NN 56640 92400, over fence at NN 55730 91830. Clearly nowhere near as fit as Carol as although I wouldn't describe the walk as unpleasant it did take it out of me. Very wet underfoot.thejackrustles23/03/2023

From gate at NN 5689 9292 (adjacent road bridge at Sherrabeg). Cross pasture to further gate (NN 5664 9240) at edge of plantation. Good deer trod all the way to deer fence NN 5573 9183. Much better walk than expected.carole engel06/07/2022

From Sherrabeg, parking on grass at NN571930, crossed field across road from Sherrabeg, followed track up field, through forest gate, and between two woodlands, continuing more steeply SW up ridge to fence at ca NN555917, through a gap, then along ridge to summit trig (and nearbyt alternative summits), returning by same route (2h5m)kdbennett19/04/2022

Parked E of Sherrabeg. Crossed bridge at Sherrabeg, followed path W of Allt Sniomhach through 2 gates to forest boundary fence, through 3rd gate keeping fence on left to corner. Still following path, SW to damaged deer fence at approx 580m, where able to step through fence and onto summit plateau. Visited T Pt. and the other contenders.CJM30/01/2022

Parked in layby by reservoir shore, walked W along road then L on track by Glenshero Lodge. Followed track till close to Meall an t-Sithein then veered L and up the less severe slopes to reach fine summit of Meall an t-Sithein in mature woodland. Continued to Creag Ruadh (visiting all the options for high point) and camped just below summit. Continued to Creag Ruaidh E top, Black Craig then nice path to the Pictish hill fort of Dun-da-Iamh, visiting both summits. Descended via forestry tracks to the road. Excellent views, good varied route.RobertP09/11/2021

Route as bolton, low cloud, snow on ground, freezing, views but high tops missing.iangalbraith07/11/2019
Usual way from Sherrabeg, quite pleasant on a fine day.Jon F05/11/2019
A very pleasant short walk, mainly on a decent path from Sherrabeg. Through the gate, across the field then another gate into deciduous woods, up to a final gate, then a boggy path along the forestry fence leads up parallel to the ridge line, up a squidgy coire, then gets lost in bog vegetables. Hop over the fence where it has fallen down, then up steeply to the plateau. Final stroll on short heather to fine views along Loch Laggan. An interesting and varied walk.Gill03/11/2019

Parked at Sherrabeg. A track follows the edge of the forest through 3 gates on the west side of the burn. Under 2 hours return in reasonably clear conditions. Solo.bolton22/02/2019

Used SMC Grahams book route starting from near Sherrabeg. Showers with mist at summit, but with occasional weather windows revealing good views, especially down to Loch Laggan. Fairly distinct grassy path, becoming more vague past forest.ger30/12/2018

From layby on A86 at NN56521 90325, from where a road walk was avoided by making my way through the reasonably sparse trees to the power line clearing. My failure to make a mental note as to my surroundings when I popped out in that clear line made my return 'interesting'! Recorded route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2018/05/creag-ruadh-and-creag-na-doire-duibhe.htmlGayle16/05/2018

Bagging the trig. Parked below the marked fort near to the Spey Dam. Followed informal mountain bike tracks up to the fort. Great view. From there followed a marked path south west up on to the summit of Black Wood Hill. From here the going was much rougher and included crossing a deer fence. The Vanessa is a little way off the summit. The views were astounding. The descent was by the obvious ridge to the north to Sherrabeg and then back along the road.BigJ30/08/2017

With Peterb from Sherrabeg. Followed a squelchy path up through young woodland which goes through two deer fences lower down which have gates that open. The last deer fence near the top required climbing as there is no gate. Easy ascent on short grassy, heathery slopes to the summit trig point. Retraced route to return.bowlesy21/05/2017
A quick up and down from Sherrabeg with Chris. Followed the stream up and through a couple of deer gates. Nearly trod on a meadow pipit that was sitting on four eggs.Peterb21/05/2017

From Sherrabeg, keep close to stream to start with vague path to avoid problems (hidden holes) of new planting. Initially missed top due to cloud but from above loch followed fence to trig point. A quick morning run up before heading home.dickscroop18/09/2014
From Sherrabeg (NN 56845 92933) following the route in Dempster's book. This involves scaling three deer fences to reach the summit. Watch out for hidden holes in plantings on NNW flank of hill. Descended via Loch na Lairige to the track in Glen Shira, and so back to Sherrabeg - a much better route, with no deer fences to climb.Man of Kernow114/08/2014

Revisit for trig. Other summit candidates mentioned are clearly lower - throw away that Abney ;-) From NE, then E along ridge to hill fort, then SW from saddle to regain open ground. However the N slopes have been recently planted so this route may be less feasible in future. RHW07/07/2013
