Route as Jossker but without the snow. Came back the same way.iangalbraith20/03/2024

First ever winter venture up Loch Arkaig, felt strange not seeing fishers, wild campers or busy season lets on every available shoreside space on the way up and had the place all to myself for a change. From the butterfly sanctuary CP headeding up path on E side of the Allt Mhuic, crossing over the forestry track, continued up hydro track on E side leaving it just after a bridge crosses the river to the W bank just before it ends at the small hydro scheme. An ATV track heads up through a gap in the embankment netting but soon ends. Then it was up grassy slopes between heather onto the hill. There had been fresh snow fall and it was 1-2 feet deep as I got further up which became a bit of a trudge but weather was fine and eventually reached summit cairn. Had planned to head over to Meall Blair but didn't fancy trudging through deep snow in a mire of peat hags for 2 miles so headed back down the ATV track on the shoulder of hill on W side of Allt Mhuic back through Sanctuary to CP.Jossker24/02/2024
From butterfly car park (NN 1204 9114). Up the new hydro road, veering off after 1.4km for Beinn Chraoibh, then Geal Charn and Carn Dubh before heading up to here following an old fence line and return for a 14.1km round.jonglew28/11/2023
Sgurr Choinnich, Carn Dubh, Gael Carn & Beinn Chraoibh. A few out today doing various subsets of the hills. Jill & I did the above (c/w circuit)- super weather.(13km,1090m).ger28/11/2023
From the butterfly car park at 120912. Up the so caleed path east side of the burn and then the hydro track to about 128929 were it ends at 800 ft. Directly NW, steeply which eases on an ATV track. Glorious November day with CM. No wind, no insects, cold but great views. Returned on the ATV track and nature trail to the car. A slow 4.75 hours in great conditions.bolton28/11/2023

Set off from the Butterfly car park with Phil, Chris, Gill, Reg & Helen. We split into separate groups after a short time. Summited with Helen & Jon (who we met on Carn Dubh). Pleasant grassy descent down the broad south ridge.Dangerous Dave28/11/2023
From Meall Blair. Over the minor summit, then to the broad col at point 443. ESE to join the fence line. Very wet underfoot after heavy rain but no peat hags or other difficulties, generally easy going. Followed the fence line all the way to the summit. Descended initially SW then south, finding the good though very wet ATV track making for quick progress. The gate at the 200m contour was locked but no difficulty clambering over the deer fence. Narrow overgrown path down through the west side of the butterfly sanctuary back to the parking.Owen B22/08/2023
1 of 3: From the Butterfly CP. V.hot and sunny. Calm so flies a nuisance. Slight breeze on top so early lunch there. Contrast to previous visit. With Karen.ChrisR16/06/2023
On round Glas Bbeinn, Meall na h-Eilde, Geal Charn, Sgurr Choinnich and tops in between. Descended south ridge, verging SE when new track down east side Allt Mhuic came into view. This runs from NN 1232 9171 to unmapped FB at NN 1265 9263carole engel05/07/2022
Up east side of stream onto track for mini hydro dam then pathless vegetation to summit.hill walker29/04/2022
Parked near butterfly reserve and took bath to W side of burn and then ATV track to reach summit of Sgurr Choinnich in drizzle and mist. Descended NE ridge about half way then SE to beallach and climb to Carn Dubh, visiting both tops. Continued to Beinn Chraoibh and camped close to summit. Descended ridge to W to join track, crossed bridge over Allt Mhuic then rejoined path through reserve back to road.RobertP12/11/2021
from the Butterfly reserve, there's a new track up to a little Hydro dam, about a mile up the valley. From there I went straight up the steep side of the hill to the S ridge where I found an ATV track which led almost to the summit. On the descent I couldn't find the track until I'd gone about a mile, though the going was much easier downhill, and I followed the ridge all the way back to the track which goes E-W above the forest and then the original track back to the car. Thus taking a lot of the tedium out of it.IanHHill14/09/2021
Approached from new track to small dam on E side of stream. Probably not better than ATV from other descriptions.davechaffey04/08/2021
From butterfly reserve car park, up footpath (currently modified route due to hydro works) on east side of Allt Mhuic, to good forestry track, crossed stream west over bridge, then after c100m took fairly decent ATV track northward most of way up to summit.willyross02/03/2021

With M. V windy on top, but mostly fine.douglas_easton26/07/2020
Sgurr Choinnich and Meall Blair from the Butterfly Farm in fine weather. Initially up valley for about 2 km before cutting up to ridge and Sgurr Chaoinnich. Only incident was getting lace hook on boots hooked on the deer fence which produced an interesting moment. West, initially on deer fence to Meall Blair then S back to road at forest edge and 5 km along road to car.dickscroop30/10/2019
From Butterfly reserve car park, up to track, L over bridge and then found ATV track on R which went through deer fence and intermittently up to summit. Fantastic viewpoint of lots of old favourites! On to Meall Blair across gorund which was drier than expected!MichaelF24/09/2019
From butterfly reserve across bridge and up path to track, across rough ground to gate - locked but you can squeeze under. From there a rough wet and grassy track almost all the way. Great views.nicolajane26/08/2019
Solo trip from south. This would be a weary way without the handy ATV track.Invicta1403/06/2018

From the Butterfly reserve. None seen, perhaps because of the cold. Direct to the top on an ATV track almost all the way. Lovely walk, on snow towards the top, with splendid views. Down to the col and across the rough stuff to Meall Blair. Nasty descent on quagmired ATV track, a small amount of road bash, very pleasant along Loch Arkaig.Gill11/11/2017
Left car at foot of butterfly trail, cycled up tom 075920 and returned to car via two Grahams. Marshy ground shown on map west of hill was not a problem. With hindsight, a triangular walk starting at the foot of a new track at about 100912 would have been better.Topographer5717/07/2017

It has a track. From the butterfly reservation car park. On to a track. Go left a bit and you will see a rv track.tallblond12/09/2015
With Geal Charn et al. From butterfly place - disappointed not to see Chequered Skippers, must demand a refund. Did not see much else because of low cloud. Snow beginning to thaw.Martin R30/12/2014
With Meall Blair. Long day over rough ground between and back to car. Great clear weather though.nordicstar24/08/2014

1 of 3: From Butterfly CP at Loch Arkaig. Temp inversion over Loch Arkaig all day. Bright sun reflecting off the snow. Crust breaking slowed progress.ChrisR18/12/2012
Parked by butterfly reserve, in short sleeves, Uphill through trees and bracken to open moor and another gate onto a rough road. Crossed stream on road and up over rough ground to a deer fence with locked gate. Climbed over the fence to a buggy track wet in places leading uphill to its end at 2,000'. Pair of grouse. A final easy walk up over short tundra vegetation to a line of old fence posts and to the top at 11.10. Pile of large stones made the cairn. A watershed hill. Mrs B was here in June 1997. Gently downhill for lunch. On further descent felt as if elastic was tied to my back and was unable to put front foot down onto the ground. Leaning backwards, I fell over backwards! Knees very weak and difficult to stand upright. This happened 5 or 6 times. 2 men on mountain motor bikes opened the gate, which I walked through and fell down again feeling very faint. Coffee and glucose tablets. Fell back again into sludge, both boots and socks and backside wet through. Very slowly onto upwararranc24/07/2011
