From CP near Lochan Iasgair. Main track, then broke off to head into western coire. Made a way up one of the very steep gullies to left of notch. Ok keeping to solid stuff at side until near top, where very loose and earthy. Interesting with enthusiastic dog up ahead! Once on ridge easy to top and fantastic views. Carried on a little way before descending down grass and loose rocky slope. Eventually back to our gully missing the worst of the loose stuff. Though Rick set off a massive stone slide here. Luckily dog and I were well out of the way. Not the best of ground. The SMC guide suggested route off main ridge looked treacherous by the way. Probably safest route is by the pinnacles themselves for competent scramblers with a rope for protection. With B and R.jenx07/06/2022

If you want to climb this one from Mullach an Rathain, do not be tempted to head along the ridge from the Munro because you will not get down the buttress or gullies on either side. Best head west for 200m along the corrie rim before dropping down a wide gully with scree boulders and grass runners. When below the cliffs, contour round until below the top before heading up. Only took 30 minutes to get there but you have to retrace your route to get back to the path and the roadSimon Winton10/08/2021

With guide from Mullach an Rathain. NW then N over pinnacles to Meall Dearg - do not go down any gullies. Two down climb pitches of about 10m (?). Needed tight roping! Hand and footholds needed care due to unstable rock. Not difficult for climber or experienced scrambler. Impossible for me without a guide and ropes. Used Ken Applegate of West Coast Mountain Guidescarole engel24/09/2018
Went up with Mark from Coire Caime. Above the lochans then a northwest direction to the notch west of the summit. Lots of loose rock and very steep so care needed before the very narrow ridge was reached then a straightforward walk to the summit. Back down before the notch seemed an easier option though care needed. Pleased to get this one done.Peterb30/07/2018

Solo. A simply walk up into the beautiful western coire. The gulley, however is treacherous. Loose earth, scree and boulders. Very steep. I would not recommend this route up. It was too scary for me and after two attempts I retreated. However, I found an easy way up on my last attempt! From the first narrow gulley follow a rocky ledge north for about 50m. This brings you to an easy angled grassy slope. Walk up and you hit the narrow ridge about 20m north of the summit. Back the same way. No hands needed!Dangerous Dave03/06/2018

From Coire na Caime, kicking steps in partially melted snow to reach the col between pinnacles and summit. Snow-free areas were loose and felt less secure.mae25/05/2013

With Rhona Fraser. From the east through Coire Dubh Mòr, then Loch Coire na Caime before climbing steeply up scree, boulders and grass to reach a point between the first and second of the Northern Pinnacles. Went over the first pinnacle and up to the summit of Meall Dearg and back and then climbed the rest of the Northern Pinnacles. We did not have a rope. We chose the left of two parallel steep gullies and had some difficulty half way up. A swing up and left made on a good handhold that was not immediately obvious. Later I found a way up very steep and exposed rock blocks. There were good holds with a mantelshelf to finish. We tackled the fourth pinnacle by moving right on a terrace for about 10m before climbing up on easier angled rock. Up the fifth pinnacle and on to the summit of Mullach an Rathain. We descended the west ridge of Mullach an Rathain which is delightful high up but the lower parts are very tedious with much vegetation and many holes.pwbellarby12/09/2009

Last Top of the day and gave as much trouble as the rest of the Liathach ridge put together! Long descent, steep scrambling on wet grass and loose rock. Then returned to upper ridge and had a horrible descent down wrong gully to Glen Torridon: long wet grass, bracken, heather, midges.Aye Jimmy05/08/1996

7th consecutive New Year at Torridion with YHS mob - and finally success on the Northern Pinnacles (after a previous aborted attempt in a hoolie at the col with a descent in the dark ). Snow and ice covered climb with Pete Hemmings -rope, axes and crampons on last day of year. Grade II -not difficult but serious drops -as we continued up over summit of Mulach an Ratahin. Pete was carrying a crutch on his sack to aid his descents!! following a broken leg (always very keen to climb. I managed to trip over my own crampons on the safer ground of the Munro whilst eating a sandwich and wrenched my ankle- we made a sorry pair coming down the horribly loose Stone Chute. Revived by New Year celebrations.Chris Pearson31/12/1989

Cairngorm Club Torridon meet with other club members. From the road in Glen Torridon, ascending the tourist route to the col between Stùc a' Choire Dhuibh Bhig and Bidein Toll a' Mhuic, then most of us to Stùc a' Choire Dhuibh Bhig. Then all to Bidein Toll a' Mhuic*, Spidean a' Choire Leith, over all the Fasarinen Pinnacles to Mullach an Rathain. Duncan Macrae-Gibson and I descended the Northern Pinnacles. Then to Meall Dearg, back to the col between the Northern Pinnacles and Meall Dearg. Descended the gully to the west, then to the road via Allt a' Choire Mhic Nòbuil. After the previous night's torrential rain we were lucky to have no rain. *This is the name in the 1974 Edition of Munro's Tables. In the 1980 Edition the name was changed to Stob a' Coire Liath Mhor.pwbellarby25/09/1982
