Parked in layby S of Achnashellach station. Good path to the foot of the BLM ridge. Thereafter steep ascent on eroded path to reach BLM Far E top. Lovely ridge walk along to BLM E top and the main top, descending on cairned path to bealach, including some minor scrambling. Good path to Sgorr Ruadh, then free format descent down to the lochans to the SE and the path back to Achnashellach. Another long but enjoyable day with excellent views all round. Physical scramble (for me, left me out of breath at the top) from col to start of rocky ascent to summit. Then just followed zig-zagging path over boulders and rocks all the way to the summit. Fantastic views to the north showcasing Liathach, Beinn Alligan and Beinn Eighe. Descent route via ridge and over the two Corbetg Tops. I had intended to return by the ascent route and back down Coire Lair, but to be honest it's just as easy and quick to walk along ridge and bag a couple of extra summits. Steep descent at the other end off Far East Top, but not as steep as down scramble to col with South Top.mntainman04/09/2021

Cairngorm Club weekend meet at Ling Hut. With three fellow club members. We walked southwards from the hut on path through many moraines. This path had been repaired quite extensively in recent times and to good effect. We continued southwards towards the col between Sgorr Ruadh and Beinn Liath Mhòr. Before reaching the col we turned NE to reach a small lochan marked on map. There was lying snow above about 500m and we were now into mist as well, using compass. We then went east to reach summit of Beinn Liath Mhòr. There was new snow on top of older snow. It was quite cold. We continued to Sgorr nan Lochan Uaine before descending to the hut.pwbellarby11/12/1999

Cairngorm Club meet at Gerry Howkin's, Achnashellach. Solo. From Achnashellach. After climbing Fuar Tholl and Sgorr Ruadh. Visibility was now very poor. From summit of Sgorr Ruadh went along NW ridge. Visibility was now very poor. Near small lochan met two fellow club members going round the other way. Descended NE to pass another small lochan. At east end of the lochan found a way up through small cliffs to reach a minor top (subsequently identified as Beinn Liath Mhòr South Top) and then a lochan at the col beyond. Took a leftwards ramp going up to avoid crags with some scrambling and ascended to the summit of Beinn Liath Mhòr.pwbellarby02/03/1996

Sleeper/ motorail to Inverness, breakfast while the car was unloaded. It's all changed now, we're so worried about global warming you must fly or drive for a convenient journey. We did this group of mountains on the drive to our hotel in Strathcarron but the 1140 start- from Achnashellach- meant arrival there at 2030. Good stalkers' paths got us high onto the ridge then it was a fine ridge walk over quartzite stones and moss to the summit, on the end of the ridge, and my brother's first ever view of the Torridon peaks.pwheeler16/05/1992

Alone. From Achnashellach Station up the path NW from the station. Took the RH of 3 branches as shown on map. Shortly afterwards a cairn on the left marks the start of a vague track (not shown on map) which ascends the E side of Beinn Liath Mhór. To Far East Top, East Top and main top. Descended WSW where there is a way down crags. I ascended a moderately angled snow field – quite hard – to gain the ridge to Sgorr Ruadh. From summit descended SE. I tried to short-cut the path but had to climb down into the gorge of River Lair and then climb out again. It is better to join the path high up and keep to it. Snow above 500m, patchy at first. There was a lot of snow on Sgorr Ruadh – firm but soft on top. Clear, but overcast all day.pwbellarby05/04/1984
