A seriously hot day but a lovely cool breeze at the top, with glorious views. Track from Kinloch to Malcolm's bridge, then the bizarre, plastic-paved ATV track to the bealach, easy and dry in drought. Dodged up steep grass on hidden easy ground left of the steep nose, then a fine stroll up this lovely grassy hill, with views over cliffs to Canna, the Long Isle and Skye. Far too hot to muck around bagging Tumps, back the same way.Gill15/06/2023
Ran back from Harris to Kinlock, over Ard Nev etc. Left track at about 200m and started over Ard Meall. Added Fionchra in and back by the Bloodstone track to the 'road'. Great route. Nice Vanessa on summit.HardenC25/05/2023
Good walk. With Alicia. Better track just past the bridge where the track is marked on map. The newer one is much better, takes you straight to Benllech.tallblond07/05/2023

Day trip from Mallaig - Saturdays give you more than 10 hours! Rum Cuillin then down to Harris, over Orval and Bloodstone Hill to Guirdil then back to Kinloch - you can do plenty when you run!quadbarrel19/06/2021
From Kinloch along road to Harris, turning W on track just after Malcolm's bridge, up to Bealach a' Bhraigh Bhig, then up ridge and along to Orval summit, then descending E to col and continuing E then SE to summit of Ard Nev, descending SE to Harris road, and back to Kinlochkdbennett31/08/2019
Cycled from Kinloch up to bridge at 359994 and a short distance on to where a new dry matted track headed west over wet ground to near Loch GR, then across to another ATV track up to north east ridge. More direct route back to loch. Feral goats and a golden eagle. Intended to detour Mullach Mor but risk of missing ferry so took castle tour instead.Topographer5715/07/2019
From Kinloch via Bealach a' Bhraigh Bhig. Very poor visibility and difficult navigation on to Ard Nev. Evening ferry back to Mallaig.NormanW01/06/2019

Day 2 of two-day backpack from Kinloch. Harris - Ard Nev - Orval - Bealach a' Bhraigh Bhig - Kinlochdavidpettit8428/05/2018
Cycled to Malcoms Bridge then up path to coll between Orval and Fionchra. Easy path up through crags then grassy stroll to summit. Very, very windy on top. Returned by same route.KevPalmer29/06/2017
From bunkhouse via track and Ard Nev first...dry but cloudy to summit. Decent via West towards Bloodstone hill and track outN.Morters18/06/2017
From Kinloch along good, unsurfaced road then a well constructed old path from Malcolm's Bridge. The old path has gone to seed in places but has good stretches too and was well worth following. Steep, easy nose up to Orval from bealach- clear use of this route. It was nice to keep to the edge of the cliffs on the W for views, on the final, gentle pull to the summit. Continued over Ard Nev and back to Kinloch.pwheeler03/06/2017

Track from Kinloch, up Ard Nev and across to Orval summit whereupon got bombarded by horizontal ice pellets, ouch!! Wintry showers subsided and headed back via N ridge to bealach and path back to main track. A magic wee hill!AndrewFinnimore17/04/2016

With Darren, after 6 hours sleep in our little tent in the middle of nowhere up early to continue our challenging 40km peak fest around the island in an enjoyably tough 26 hours between ferries. Sadly in cloud after yesterday's heatwave. The slender Orval pinnacle (which has been climbed) lies on the northern cliffs- claimed to be 100 feet or 30m high in some reports - could it be a tump?.Chris Pearson26/07/2012
From Kinloch on a fabulous blue-sky day with extensive views including Canna and the Harris hills in the Outer Hebrides beyond, the Rum Cuillin ridge, the Skye Black Cuillin, the Old Man of Storr and Knoydart.langskill03/06/2012
Solo. From Kinloch Castle along track west to NM359993 where I joined path to Bealach a' Bhràigh Bhig. From Bealach up N ridge to summit of Orval. Continued to Ard Nev and Ard Mheall before descending to track from Harris and on track back to Kinloch.pwbellarby22/04/2012

Long walk along the track on the south of the glen. After an hour, start of an excellent dry stalkers' path leading gradually uphill to small grassy bealach before the hill. Steep grass slopes up to a craggy area to find a small human path up through rocks to more steep grass above and to column 9770 at 12.00. Cairn 100 m away built before the pillar possibly higher. Canna and Rum peaks from a different angle. Harris bothy and mausoleum. Very large goat with curled horns.arranc29/05/2010
With Mrs G. From Kinloch, persistent rain all day.jonglew23/05/2009
