Used Gill’s route but the steep track up the hill is now very overgrown and difficult to get along the lower section. I reached the plateau about 3km from the summit and it was a slog there and back on the swampy tussocky ground. Not sure what the alternatives are…. | govanah | 08/08/2022 |
Used Gill's route. Thorn tendrils now encroaching onto sections of the logging track. Superb summit views. | Lindsay M | 01/05/2022 |
With L. Steep ascent up grassy slope and some boggy ground along upper section after lochans which we managed to avoid worst of on return by keeping nearer to old fence posts. Deer fence still needs to be crossed on this route to gain access to summit. Good views all around. Great nature lower down including several cuckoo sightings, our first swallows of the year and a golden eagle on higher ground, to name but a few! | Janet M | 01/05/2022 |
Followed Rick nordicstar’s route and had no problems although it felt like the Climb to the Lost World at times. The grassy plateau thus came as a pleasant surprise. | Chris Peart | 29/06/2021 |
From near Kinlochaline, parking inside forest, just beyond cattle grid, NM687472 (watch your ground clearance). Up forest track NNE then L just before two masts. Up to high point of forest track, to two bays, NM650504, then ride, R, from W edge of 2nd bay, for about 100m, then ATV track hard R, to old rusty fence, easily crossed 50m L. On to apex of trees, NM647510, where may as well climb over new-ish deer fence here as going is easier on SW side. Only base plinth of old Tx remains at NM647511, so don't depend on it for a landmark. Good easy going all the way, bar the new-ish fence, which has to be scaled. | Isbjorn | 12/06/2019 |
Following early morning walk up Sìdhean na Raplaich. Very hot day made crossing the rough Shona Bheag and tussocks a right pain. Easier on Eilean Shona. After isthmus pick up tack by heading to the right first passing a cottage and up to ornamental pond then onto village, past the village hall. At irst major building an old Victorian path leads up from entrance up through the wind blown forest, past the water reservoirs and picks up a vague path but very workable following the line of a Dyke higher up. Bracken low still so best avoided in high summer, and ticks everywhere. Nice views to Eigg. 3hrs round trip. | N.Morters | 17/05/2019 |
Climbed from the head of Loch Teacuis past Adantiobart. Through the forestry gate, then take the forest road heading hard L (S) a few 100m further on. Along this to a small pile of logs on the left and a rough but dry logging track heads R up to the ridge above Coire an Liomhain. At its end, hack steeply up the hill (grass) to gain the ridge near some strange landslips. Deer tracks lead to the plateau. Tough going along to the base of the hill (soft vegetables) but easy grass higher up. Fine views when the mist cleared. Torrential rain half way down. Not sure if this route is better than any other but it's certainly easy and fairly short, notwithstanding nasty vegetables. Note OS map full of errors, e.g. lochans mapped in wrong place and dodgy contours. | Gill | 10/05/2019 |
Cycled up the very smooth forest road. Just one muddy section where timber has been felled. It was a miserable sort of day, low cloud, rain and some significant snow patches remaining near the summit. 20.4k. | NormanW | 18/03/2019 |
On third attempt. Cycled forest track from NM681506 to 649523. Incredibly hot day. Going tough. | Rounsfell | 27/06/2018 |
From the south east, cycled forestry tracks from 690473 to within 1.5 km of summit. From there, a mossy firebreak leads to the open hillside. The deer fence can be scaled there or higher up, but it has to be scaled. | Topographer57 | 16/05/2018 |
sidhean na raplaich and squrr na greine from cp path, track then steep ground to bealach and tops. | robertphillips | 23/02/2018 |
From Loch Arienas, Mary's path to township memorial stone where a button can be pushed to listen to her story. Path continues via a gate up to forestry tracks, where I decided that, following recent heavy rain, ascending to the bealach was not safe. When I come back for this one it will probably be on Michael's cycle way. | Topographer57 | 18/10/2017 |
Interesting lines taken both up and down from the old township area. Up by the bealach, down by a very steep grassy ridge/ stream further found to the west. Good views again. Annoying deer fence, but easy to cross. | jenx | 10/03/2016 |
From parking near the old township to ESE. After Mary's path cut up to higher track through rough wet ground, about 100m that's all. Follow track round to near under the bealach 250m above. Cut up side of remaining forest zig zagging to gain height then traversing right to exit lines. A good deer track is found that leads right up and through to bealach. Follow rising ground along plateau edge to new deer fence that is easily crossed as four feet high in places. Returned by circling other side of plateau i.e. NE and care in selecting correct steep grass rake to descend. Back to previous woodland track and reverse ascent route to regain CP | nordicstar | 10/03/2016 |
Carpark immediately W of the Savary river, then great little narrow track through bracken, brambles, plus some forestry. High up when you get to the T junction go left for about 600m, and then follow the first ride back 400m, then 10m climb to open moor then up the plateau to the summit. Lovely views through the cloud breaks. Great wee hill. | Thearlaichdubh | 26/09/2015 |
Impressive hill for a sub-2000er. Parked in carpark and ascended via path to old township then forestry tracks. Easy enough to get through crags and over to summit. Took a poor route back down, slightly too far to the north, ending up in some nasty deforested bits before regaining the path. | AndrewFinnimore | 08/05/2014 |
Bike ride from NM 687 471 to NM 650 503 on good forest track. Simple walk to summit from there. Freewheel return leg. | mae | 03/07/2012 |
Climbed after Beinn na h-Uamha by finding a way through the forest on to the north ridge and ascending from there. | JohnW | 25/04/2012 |
Parked in small car park by Savary River. After a mile following river, heard but not seen, very wet to a new forestry road from the left. Path continued through trees getting steeper. Swampy section and steep climb to a second road to highest point. Ride started diagonally uphill to the right. Faint path for 800m , sharp left turn through fallen trees onto open moor. Steadily up using GPS and compass, over new deer fence for 1 1/2 miles to horizon and top at 12.20. Large moss covered cairn predating the walking era. Mull ferry just arriving and Tobermory. Souind of Mull in full length. | arranc | 30/06/2011 |
