From Kames Bay on West Island Way to small bridge beyond Peat Hill, up to gate at fence junction, then SW over heather to summit.Winterfloodian24/05/2021
3rd top of 4 on a circular from Kames Bay and my penultimate Bute tump. Climbed Kilbride and Cnocanalt then descent to col for a forced coffee before continuing with the wind's ferocity making the name of this hill very appropriate. Fortunately the terrain is easier-going. Descent to West Island Way taking me close to my final Bute tump of Kames hill...Dazingdale20/05/2021
Bogfest. Colintraive ferry then road to just S of Rhubodach. Up forest road to its end at NS041711 then mega-squelch on forced moorland path to high point of West Island Way at about NS049701, then struck uphill; not the most direct route but crosses the minimum of purgatorial vegetation. BWF to negotiate. Promising path going NNE from summit soon dumps you back in purgatory.Isbjorn15/10/2020
Left car at wemyss bay, ferry over to isle of bute, biked up to near kilbride farm, glecknabae hill, torran turach, badlia hill, kilbride hill, windy hill repeat, kames hill.robertphillips13/03/2020
After Kames Hill; before Muirton Hill. Scotch Argus metropolis.iangpark06/08/2019
Day trip ferry...slowed by shredded tyre valve so quick pit stop to the Bike Hut for new inner. Cycled to Shalunt and took the track up and down. The island trail path waymarked helps but does miss out the summit and needs a diversion at the fence. Finished with triple scoop at Zavaroni’sN.Morters16/07/2019
From Colintraive Ferry followed West Island Way almost to summit - just a short thrash across the heather to reach trig.Chris Peart30/03/2019
Bagged en route from Ayrshire to Cowal; the ferries are cheap enough to make this practical. There's a decent path all the way, making this an easy stroll. Park opposite the entrance to Shalunt, walk up the track, past the turn to the farm, and go through the gate into the field above the farm. Follow an ATV track to a second gate, where an even better track heads right towards the stream, then up alongside it. There's a marker for the West Island way, and the ATV track continues up the hill, past a second marker and across a bog. The hill rises more steeply above, a grassy slope, so head rightwards up this (don't go to the next marker post). Follow a grassy edge; cross the fence and pick up another ATV track along the edge, which leads across the boggy col to the top. Easy peasy!!! Fabulous views.Gill26/03/2018
