From Todholes. Windfarm road to Cringate Law, then continues almost all the way to the summit. Last 200m is on an ATV track. Solo.Dangerous Dave13/02/2024
Easy parking on W. side of Earl's Burn bridge at 713873 - Up reservoir track to junction with ATV track, about 150m before Earlsburn Reservoir No.1 dam at NS 70170 89104 - W. up ATV track to Turbine 6 & then along wind farm tracks to high point - Along stone track, stepped over low wire fence & up ATV track to summit.gerrybowes24/05/2023
Carleatheran and Stronend, near Kippen. Walkhighlands routehummusg02/03/2022
Lovely walk with Susan, Max and Josie Lily and Rosie from Boquhan burn bridge via Spout of Ballochleam. Wonderful views from the summit. 6 hours taking our time.alexmaclennan16/09/2021
From near Todholes (cp full) up wind farm tracks to Carleatheran (great views north). Then more wf road to works area where old track is joined. Easy atv track (path later) all the way to Stronend on super dry ground. Then came the walk along the pathless ridge - soul destroying.SS01/08/2021
A nice walk, very easy and pleasant along the Earlsburn reservoirs track to start. Good parking. By the Earlsburn 2 dam, at a fishing hut, there's an ATV track and the higher branch leads to Turbine 6. To Carleatheran on the wind farm road. At its highest point, a stony track leads towards the summit, to cross a small stream, then a grassy ATV track goes to the summit bump. I got bored with the track on the way back, so left it by the wind turbine immediately SE of the track junction to the Met Mast, finding an ATV track which becomes unclear in boggy ground, then reappears and joins the outward track near the dam. Other short cuts would involve horrific tussocks, so stick with the tracks!Gill16/05/2021
As per the WalkHighlands route info, up from Ballochealm Farm, over the bog to Carleatheran, then down through the windfarm and up more bog to Stronend. Very long day, mainly as I'm nit very hill fit. Sunny all day with a decent breeze. The views north into the Highlands were amazing.chillyman821/03/2021
Carleatheran & Stronend from Ballochleamthekirkie pirate03/03/2021
From Todholes to the summit ridge of windfarm tracks on mountain bike, then on foot along path through gate in fence to the cairn.Winterfloodian26/09/2020
Cycled (rather slowly) up through the wind farm from Todholes. Took an hour then 10 min walk to top. Overcast, mist threatening, but dry. Back same route; 50 min down total.dbb24/07/2020
With Chantell and Chris. Had to abandon Stronend as boot sole came off :-(kojak24/07/2020
Parked just off road at Garrique, WNW of top, very little space on road. Followed track past Garrique, taking first right branch until clear felled area. Headed straight up to upper forestry and found a route through trees, then on to open hill, contoured up steep face and then 1.5km to the top. 8.11km 2hrsSimon Winton13/01/2020
First decent day in weeks so I revisited Carleatheran and Stronend. Wet ground all frozen hard and superb views to the Highland LineColin Crawford31/12/2019
From N end of Carron Reservoir. Bike to highest point on windfarm track, then a short out-and-back walk to summit. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2019/10/carleatheran-and-meikle-bin.htmlGayle20/10/2019
Group walk to Stronend from Kippen then down and up the windfarm track to Carleatheran as the visibility and view improved before returning along the excarpment path. A long but enjoyable hike in great company.Chris Mac01/06/2019
With Stronend - a dreary 7 plus hour exercise in low viz navigation - thank goodness for the ATV tracks easing the way through the tussocky terrain. From Ballochleam, parking near the 'weak bridge' at NS 652922. An unhelpfull 'no parking' sign at the track start, a proliferation of fences inc E fences and several locked gates/hurdles further up detracted from any atmosphere of a warm welcome. The ATV track extends beyond the mapped track and leads, vanishing occasionally in bog, all the way to the top which, in the mist, had the profile of the upper half of a mid-20th century sci-fi movie flying saucer.Isbjorn20/03/2019
As per Bolton. With PM.CJM05/12/2018
Parked next to the bridge at 652922. NE up the road and then the track south past Ballochleam to the Spout. Took the track NE until it disappears short of the summit. Rough going! Thankful for once that a windfarm access road descends to 668897 as Stonend was next. With CM.bolton05/12/2018
1of2: From Gargunnock.ChrisR16/10/2018
From near the Broch. At end of track, following the wall ahead leads to a reasonable way up.PGCE23/02/2018
From Ballochleam Farm,a week after heavy snowfalls. Easily up the track to the Spout of Ballochleam, then soggily across the Sponge of Gargunnock to the cairned summit, surprisingly prominent above the plateau. A superb panorama of snow-capped Southern Highlands peaks compensated for wet boots.Nick Down126/01/2018
A tough cookie this one! Snow, slush, ice and boggy conditions. With GHC mid weekers. A wee bit of a view but not worth the effort.Play2End09/02/2017
With Earls Hill, new track for kingsburn windfarm goes to within 300m of summit, be a great bike run this now. wonderful views over the highland line.hils03/10/2016

From east of Gargunnock, taking track up lane to parking by gate. Track and marked FP before striking up hill to visible high point. Trig lies just beyond.nordicstar03/12/2015
Along track at east side of Gargunnock.then followed marked path west along foot of slopes for approx 1km before heading up through lower crags. Then up and across to top. Interesting route.jenx03/12/2015

Left car near Gargunnock parish church. Turned right at east end of village and walked up to a disused quarry, then east of Gargunnock Water up to plateau, from where a track - very wet in places - led to the summit.Topographer5725/02/2011
Revisit. From road near Ballochleam, via Stronend. Track along escarpment mostly good but boggy on final approach. Steep grassy descent thru crags at 671917.RHW27/09/2009
Before the 2009 Gargunnock Beer Festival. Combined with Stronend. Various inc JC and DCMartin6618/09/2009
First of several ascents from Gargunnock on a beer festival weekend. A sunny day with Martin66, JC, Shaky, Smithy & Harts. Wandered on towards Stronend. JC & Harts descended track near Spout Of Ballochleam. The rest of us ploughed on through the deep stuff to Stronend, Smithy spending more time on his knees than upright! Back via the inn at Kippen.NotReallyABagger08/08/2009
Solo. From east end of Gargunnock up a narrow lane, bits of track/footpath. I followed the track as it cuts through the escarpment to reach Gargunnock Burn. It is not clear where the track goes after this so I followed the burn for a while before climbing through a second escarpment, which was not difficult. I joined a track and followed it. The track goes very close to the summit of Carleatheran, though the OS 1:25,000 map does not show this. I returned more or less the same way. Weather was warm and humid, but dry. It clouded over as the afternoon progressed.pwbellarby14/09/2008

Date is first visit. Notes from later...plateau v boggy, hence keep low. Fine view. park @ 711951, good tk then follow path along base, find way thru crags to summit RHW14/11/1999
From Ballochleam, up to the Spout; then along to Stronend, back along escarpment to Carleatheran, cairn and Trig. Boggy and heather. With Robert B.The Captain10/01/1999
