Stopped in Gatehouse of Fleet, a picturesque little town, before short drive into hills. Distinct path to start with then had to pick our own route to summit. Rewarded with clear all round views but wind had turned colder so didn't linger.Peak Rambler13/09/2023
Good parking area at start of path to Loch Whinyeon. Stile over wall then path through bracken to seat. Intermittent tracks to summit of Benfadyeon. Followed ATV track up hill to the forest fence below the lower 362m summit. Followed track up around the back and climbed the lesser top. Crossing point of bw fence is at the high point between the two tops at NX 6299 5982. Solo.Dangerous Dave29/08/2023
Easy parking on grass S. of Laghead Bridge - Up Loch Whinyeon path to seat overlooking loch & then headed S. on an ATV track, vague & intermittent at first, to Benfadyeon - Continued on ATV track to junction at NX 62440 60114, turned left along track to junction at NX 62682 60038, left again & track was followed to within 20m or so of the remains of mindlessflogger's stone stile; should have read VerySlowPlodder's log. Short climb over heather & bilberry to unmarked summit & trig point. Back same way.gerrybowes11/05/2023
As others have dine, parked in wide area next to green signpost for Core Path to loch . Evidence of cattle, ie large plops. Across stile and meandered through path that was damp in places . At bealach there is a bench, cast your eyes arounf and you will spy an ATV. Have faith, it will meander , and amble along. I chose a left branch….and eneded close to summit of Bengrays oppoiste number. No visibilty today, compass bearing and fingers crosses. Fouind the ruckle of stones at fence, where there was a brabed wire strand. Looked right, a lower partof fence with no BW. Hurrah. Up knee deep hesther etc. trig point and a wander around to catch everthing else. Return the same.VerySlowPlodder17/03/2023
Parked NX6090560567. Up path to Loch Whinyeon around southern shore of loch then up NW ridge of Bengray. Back down over Benfadyeon.PeteF26/10/2022
4/4 Marilyns. Parked at Laghead NX 60891-60563. Because of an electric fence I had to use the stile and from there went onto Benfadyeon. Followed an ATV track that ended south near the tree line of Dalmalin Hill. Followed tree line and crossed over a barbed wire fence trig before noticing the true summing is 50m Westwards! Lots of flies. Came partially down the tree line to south and then direct route back bypassing Benfadyeon and cattle. Very hot day.Jhimmy31/07/2022
From car park to the west.Adrian04/05/2022
Room for several vehicles at grassy area on east side of road just before Laghead Farm. With Bengray.duchally24/08/2021
From Laghead Bridge, over Benfadyeon, then ATV tracks up NW slopes of Bengray. The barbed wire strand has been cut a few yards south of mindlessflogger's stone stile, so easier access to summit area. Returned across easy western flanks of Benfadyeon.vuirich23/04/2021
From NX 6324 5906, large parking area S side track. Very rough and wet (thankfully ground 90% frozen today) break goes all the way up to the more open area.jonglew12/02/2021
From Laghead Bridge over Benfadyeon then up south flank of Bengray to fence and pleasant sun trap to col. Subsidiary top is much finer than main summit.SS13/10/2020
Along the Loch Winyeon footpath until an ATV track reached, which allowed easy, if circuitous, access to Benfadyeon, then to pretty near the top of Bengray. Returned by the same route to a stone cairn near the loch side. Hopped over a stone wall and followed animal and ATV tracks to Craigtype and Fell of Laghead. A further ATV track took us quickly back to the road and camper van.summitter12/07/2020
2/8 A round of the valley from Laghead Bridge, including Benfadyeon, Bengray, down to Loch and up to Craigtype, then Fell of Laghead, Craig of Grobdale and continue up to White Top of Culreoch. Then down through the trees to Doon of Culreoch and back to complete circle via Castramont Hill. Note the last two were hard going with felled woodland at first and then tussocky ground, made it a 6 hour round despite the low hills. Sunburnt, silly me!nickywood113/07/2019
From Laghead via Benfadyeon. 90 round trip in mist and drizzleLongwojo30/05/2019
From Laghead Bridge as others over Benfadyeon on easy going short grassN.Morters24/04/2019
Followed Gill’s suggestions which worked very well.Lionel Bidwell23/03/2019
From Laghead Bridge, boggy walk with occasional inconsistent quad tracks. Operated short wave radio for SOTA on summit.G4OBK (Phil)21/02/2019
From the west, over Benfayeon. Some helpful quad tracks. Back along the loch shore along a rather wet path.Topographer5714/10/2018

Easy from Laghead bridge via Benfadyeon.agentmancuso21/04/2018
Quad track to wall, then heather. Visited trig pillar. On way to minigaff syha.cjo23/03/2018
A nice walk from Laghead bridge. As noted by others. the ground to the west and south of Benfadyeon is easy, so you can do almost the whole walk on lovely dry mossy grass, linking up sheep tracks. Once on the climb to Bengray, there is a handy ATV track, which heads easily round the south side of the lower summit on dry grass, and you can follow the forest wall and fence easily to the high point of the wall. A pile of stones helps you over the fence, and the only slightly tough ground of the walk leads to the top, and the trig beyond.Gill22/03/2018

Cycled from Gatehouse and after White Top of Culreoch climbed this hill via Benfadyeon. Still windy after Storm Brian.NormanW22/10/2017
Parked at start of footpath to loch. However once over stile made straight for Benfadyeon. From there ATV track almost to mindlessflogger's stone stile. Summit just a a few metres away, with great views. Returned by same route.garyhoney31/07/2017
From Laghead. Path to loch difficult to follow and crossing to bottom of slope up to summit a bit rough. As well taking a direct line over Benfadyeon and up ATV track. Liked the stone stile over barbed wire fence!AndrewFinnimore26/04/2017
From Laghead. Up via the loch, not great underfoot but pretty. Down skirting south of Benfadyeon, easier footing with better ATV tracks.Owen B05/11/2016
Took path from Laghead to bench overlooking lake. Then cross country to summit. Mrs Mindlessflogger almost refused to cross the barbed wire fence near the top until I built a stone stile and used the sit mats as protection. Good views despite the rain.mindlessflogger04/11/2016
From road to W. Bit of a meandering outward route, often following ATV tracks over Benfadyeon. Skirted S side of Benfadyeon on return. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/bengray-and-bengairn.htmlGayle04/09/2016

From 609606. East up to the loch and then across to the west side of the forest. The quad track to the top makes an easy climb. 3.6 miles with Marli.bolton03/07/2016
#588 - Same as Assynt_bobtim74703/06/2016
3rd of 4 Marilyns done today. Parked at the sign pointing to Loch Whinyeon. Good style used to get over the dry stone wall and onto the hill. Headed straight for the summit going over Benfadyeon enroute. Returned the same way. Met a fellow Marilyn bagger (from Carlisle area) near the summit. Lovely fine sunny afternoon. Glad that it was fairly dry. Done solo whilst Seumas was at his grandparents.assynt_bob20/04/2016
From Loch Whinyeon side, dry, mild, sharp breeze, good views.iangalbraith08/04/2016

W Jenx, followed route as mattmcv, except after summit skirted west of Benfadyeon dropping direct to car, perhaps the best way up? Track up to loch was indeterminate and crossing to peak ws poor. A grand viewpoint from summit thru 360 degrees.nordicstar20/07/2012
Took track at 609 605 towards Loch Whinyeon (space to park off road there), skirted Benfadyeon and up NW ridge. Actual summit possibly a lump c. 10m W of trig point. Went over Benfadyeon on way down – pleasant hill despite lashing rain on descent.mattmcv16/07/2011
