| Parked at the road entrance towards Glenmanna. Walked up the road to Glenwhargen, from where a grass track heads up the glen above Glenwhargen Burn. Up a grassy flank to Whiteside once SE of Glenwhargen Craig, finding an ATV track close to the summit, which thankfully continues over the tussocky ground on to Shiel Hill. Similar ground over to Wether Hill and the aptly named Heathery Hill then E to Jarney Knowes to get onto a turbine road which helps ascend Black Rig. Something of a slog to Dunduff and back before the final summit of Cairnkinna Hill. Back to the car via the grassy slopes above Hallscaur Craig, which seems the easiest terrain when descending into Scaur Glen. 4.5hrs total. | summitter | 04/08/2023 |

| Parked on the narrow grassy verge just north of Carlinstane Bridge. Took one look at the SW ridge, didn't fancy it, it looked steep, stony, heathery, possibly some difficult to avoid loose stuff. So went up the grassy slope on the west side of Carlinstane Burn to about 350m, found a sheep trod contouring to the burn, then up the other side on tussocky grass to the ridge line and easy from there. | Parked at the cattle grid under Hallscaur Craig at NS 769 014. Over two wooden gates to open fell. Climbed up Hallscaur Craig and then across rough ground up to the summit. Impressive summit cairn. | Snow and sunshine made this a great walk. Parking is not easy for the Woodend track with logging in progress and too snowy for direct ascents from Chanlockfoot, so I parked on a perfectly fine grass verge by a gate W of Carlinstane bridge. Through the gate, across the field, then over a rickety wooden gate. Straight up the W side of the burn on steep easy ground, meeting an ATV track briefly then keeping to high ground above the burn. At a feeder, cut across the hillside along a drain which contours nicely around the head of the burn to a stile, then off piste to the 475m col and up the hill. The fence along the ridge looks electric but isn't. Fine snowy views from the massive cairn. Fast descent on good snow. The ATV track goes down to a gate into the field E of Hallscaur and a gate next to the house entrance brings you to the road. | Gill | 01/02/2019 |

| An awkward climb through brash and bramble from small old quarry at NS787005 to where the wall was down and so breached it at NS 7893 0044. Once there steady slow progress NNE by fence to corner gate at NS 7922 0069. Then easier NNW pver Black Hill and Burn Head to the trig pointwhivh took us 84 minutes. | With Jenx,followed recent route recorded by GmacT. Not a great line, direct as you like bit steep and lots of vegetation lower down. The fence is encountered at 380m and then turning left follow the fence posts to subsidiary top at 488m. Direct line then by compass to top through mist.
