Probably should NOT have gone this way, given that it is a construction site for a newish windfarm. Land reforma act 2004 doesnt cover access in this case. So parked at start of Kyle something wind farm. Plenty of space for any sized industrial vehicle to get past my car. Walked to side of locked gate and onwatds upwards. Past a compound with many many huge vehicles and remote AI operated security gadgest. Advised times two to leave the area. We walked on smiled and waved. Looking at 1:25 o s maps, confunue up this main drage until the higher - second of tracks on left ( benreoch also on left ), walk alimg this. It peters out. You will see on old faint tractor set. Follow this, becomles more apparemt. Easy on to summit. Return exaclty the same way.
Post industrila….slag / coal spill. Wouldnt trust any muddy area or muddy slope. Keep on the hard core tracks. | VerySlowPlodder | 06/01/2024 |
Parked small space approx 498 069, over embankment and followed path past three ponds and then uphill. | colazione | 18/11/2023 |

Parked in a litter strewn B741 lay-by just south of the three wee ponds. A narrow path runs through this and up to a stone track around the lochs. This leads west and then abruptly north. Once at its highest point you have to go over rough grassland and a couple of wire fences before reaching the summit. | summitter | 12/05/2023 |

From residential street (Armour Wynd) just S. of spot height 172, up track to the 6ft locked & meshed gate - Gave this a miss & continued E. along track to junction with path at NS 48556 06878, turned left & along path for about 200m - Left again & headed NNE up the overgrown, but fairly obvious route of the former tramway; shown on 1:25K map - On reaching the winding gear housing, a short scramble up over spoil to join track - Up tracks to just beyond LH bend at 491086 & then ATV track up NW ridge to summit cairn. | gerrybowes | 23/08/2022 |
From the double gates opposite Clawfin NS506074. Up qy rd to hp, about NS495088, TR level, L, WSW, to BWF on skyline, where ATV tk along ridge to summit. Beware NE flank which is steep deep veg over boulders – ankle breaking terrain | Isbjorn | 15/05/2022 |
Parked in a lay-by just east of Pennyvenie Fm. Over fence by Keep Out sign to join track south of the three ponds. Over gate and up mine roads to SW of the summit. Followed wall to ridge then ATV track to summit cairn. A really nice hill once above the mine roads. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 17/04/2022 |
With Stephen from north end of Dalmellington. Other than a clamber over a pallet early on straightforward ascent using basically going due north. Returned using the old mine roads - really just to see how it was going back to nature although that is a long time away to the north. | SS | 16/03/2022 |
Cool down after the Hillbilly race! | quadbarrel | 20/02/2022 |
Parked due E of Pennyvenie Hill, just managed to get car off road at a gate giving access to a mapped track (NS 4886 0676). Up onto Pennyvenie Hill first then up to here on a good trod all the way. My final hump/marilyn in Section 27C. | jonglew | 26/01/2022 |

Active mine workings are all to the N and E of summit. Ascent from SW is straight forward - would likely be OK even on a weekday now. Track from B road at 481065 / cut up to old mine track from ruin at 483070 / path to summit over rough ground from 489077 - as per agentmancuso below. | 49pp | 05/09/2021 |

3 of 3: After Green Hill we drove to Clawfin. Parked by the gate. Old mine road to near the base then overgrown rough ground and a steep climb. Karen waited at the BWF. | ChrisR | 22/07/2021 |

Parked at B741 Pennyvenie Bridge NS499069. Climbed barbed wire fences then over bank through copse to join open cast mine track, kept left, lagoons on right, track went right and headed north. Made for wall / fence corner at NS496078 then chose route over rough moorland to summit cairn. Operated ham radio for SOTA on summit using HF Morse / Voice. | G4OBK (Phil) | 09/09/2020 |
Yuk. Parked at the quarry entrance at Clawfin. Up the quarry track and took the 3rd track to the L (counting from the piles of tyres). Up tailings and onto the hill. Disgusting terrain; long tussocky grass conceals a massive boulder field, presumably fallen from the crag above. Grovelled up to the walled area below the crags, then struggled up the W side of the crags, hidden boulders even on the side of the hill. The view is horrid, over the quarry and coalfield. | Gill | 25/01/2020 |

Last of a 3 hill circular from the Railway centre, climbing Green Hill and Benquhat then over rough ground to intercept a track following this around to base of hill then easy enough over one fence to reach grassy track and upto the top. Descent similar but continued on grassy path to find track again then used tracks veering off to explore Laight Castle. I couldnt find any remains apart from an obvious defensive ditch. Beautiful view of the Dunaskin glen though and i saw a fox. Followed edge around to re-join a grassy track leading to a gate then beyond a flat area, a track continues to arrive back at the Ind Heritage complex. Doon catchment completed. | Dazingdale | 21/09/2019 |

From Clawfin. Followed track until track going south at appr0x. 495080. This proved an easy way to foot of hill. Conditions very easy underfoot after dry spell. | russell61 | 15/04/2019 |

With GN. Very overgrown so progress hard. Suggest August is not the time to visit as underfoot conditions are awful due to vegetation. From Clawfin as others. | trimarc2 | 23/08/2018 |
Parked at gate on north side of road at Clawfin. Followed opencast access roads to 502083 and then straight up SE slope to the top. Easy for most of the way to the summit of this lovely hill which has been ruined by the abandoned workings. Just over 1 hour return and 2.5 miles. Solo. | bolton | 08/05/2018 |

From near Clawfin. Now disused open cast mine tracks. Over the spoil area oand cross the burn. Hard going ground, eventually up the west side of the crag. Down following the wall to the west, better to follow this up too. | N.Morters | 22/04/2017 |
