From the carpark-cum-campervan overnighter besides the Weir to White Law involved a bit of scrambling up the forest edge of Thorny Cleugh ... in retrospect probably easier to cross the burn low down as far more open on its E side. But frozen ground helped get over to Altrieve Rig and White Law then back SW to Peat Law and The Wiss. Descended from The Wiss through the forest to its North, quite quickly reaching the forestry road for a straightforward walk back to the car.summitter25/11/2023

Parked up in the car park next to the monument. 9 mile circuit over the Marilyn and then return along the lochside.KevPalmer12/05/2023
Plenty parking available on both sides of main road. Public loos , didnt check them out. Follow SU way , Scottish Rights of Way finger board. At almost the high point , before forestry plantation, went off to left following ATV. This is good at start and then deteriorate s, as the vegetation becomes more hummockyntussockuy….puddly, mossy ….one fence to get iver just before you reach trig point . Sheep on hill along with cattle, nice to see. Lots of sheep.VerySlowPlodder11/10/2022
Good parking area Tibbie Shiels Inn. After the initial path this turned into a difficult pathless heather/bog hopping walkG0HIO14/09/2022
Solo. From one of the car parks near the Glen Café on the A708. Followed SUW across Craggy Sike and then used an ATV track that goes up to join another ATV track near the fence junction which is not far from the trig point. A short distance from the fence junction to reach the trig and summit. Used the other ATV track for the descent; it runs down Long Moor to 253282 but does not keep close to the fence as gerrybowes route does. Then along SUW back to start. A beautiful sunny day with temperature inversion and excellent visibility.pwbellarby17/12/2021
Parked on logging road to NW of Berry Knowe (1st hill of the day). Then onto Nether Hill and Bowerhope Law. From there headed SSE to pick up a mapped break and then regained logging road. Followed that, contouring round Sauchie Hill to a good break above a quarry at NT 2631 2102 (bit of scrambling involved here). Leads nicely up through conifers to open fell.jonglew02/12/2021
From layby at NT281210, straight up SE mostly along tracks to summit of Turner Cleuch Law, down same way, then across fields NW and up slopes on N side of Carson's Cleuch, finding a track W and up through bracken to N shoulder of The Wiss, SW to the summit, return to layby same waykdbennett12/09/2021

Large car park by Hogg’s Monument, north end of Loch of the Lowes. Toilets and shop. Unfortunately, the historic Tibbie Shiel’s Inn is closed. Easy walk up track and grassy slopes to Nether Hill (427m). Rough grass and sheep trails up to trig point. Solo.Dangerous Dave26/08/2021
2 of 2: Parked at 275201. Then as per Pete R. Bracken made the firebreak look unappealing. Flies a nuisance. With Karen.ChrisR10/07/2021

Followed the PGCE route. Probably the speediest way to the top and going up/down within the trees was straightforward.Clach Liath10/09/2020
Solo walk, best day of the trip. Park at comms mast, SW along forest road, ascend by Long Moor, continue NE and descend on N side of Carson's Cleuch. A fine walk.Invicta1418/07/2020
Went up the firebreak at 267198. Or is it a stream break? Higher up the banks get steep: it is easier to walk within the mature trees - in fact, I came all the way down within the plantation. Not much lower growth on the trees to hinder progress.PGCE27/02/2020
Parked in small lay-by 278205, then down and across rough ground keeping right of the big trees to the forestry track. Then west and uphill through the trees to the ridge and across to the top. Easy walking in the trees. 1hr 10mins up and downSimon Winton06/02/2020
From parking area opposite Glen Cafe at 238204, up SUW to start of well-used ATV track at 253192 - Up track over easy terrain to edge of forest by 481m spot height & then ATV track & trods alongside fence to trig point. Continued to Peniestone Knowe. (S)gerrybowes14/01/2020
Parked at the Glen Cafe then followed the Southern Upland Way to the forest then a faint trod to the top then returned the same way.Fellhugger06/08/2019
From NT275201. We ignored the steep firebreak and went the easy longer way, round the forest end about NT256191, where it's been cleared a little.Pete R29/06/2019
From the S, using firebreak mentioned by others. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2019/05/tuesday-30-april-turner-cleuch-law-wiss.htmlGayle30/04/2019
With Bob in torrid heat. Up the fire break at 267198 to the summit. Hazy views.Play2End22/04/2019

Parked in 1 car layby about 500M north of bend as logging lorries using entrance. Walked to next junction then directly up firebreak which is steep and bends right at top. Once I could see open ground above, headed directly through forest and over rough ground both sides of fence to summit cairn. Good views. Back by same route. 75 minutesCoinneach01/04/2019
After Turner Cleuch Law. Mostly sunny, cold in windchill. Deepish blown soft snow. Tough going. Rounsfell11/03/2019
From radio mast to 384m, then up, by fallen sign posts, through edge of forest to open ground. Easy going through forest, then not so good over open ground. Better going W of bounty fence. High wind and rain. With PM.CJM09/10/2018
Parked at forest entrance at 275201. From 269200 headed up easily through mature evergreens to open ground of tussocky heather. 80 minute return with CM. 3rd of day and drizzling.bolton09/10/2018
From Glen Cafe south of loch and up track to Peniestone Knowe. Dropped to col and up by fence then deer fence to Ward Law's large cairn. Back along fence line to Cowan's Croft then down to col and up to Shepherdscleugh Rig. Back to Captains Road (horrid) then up firebreak to Fall Law in its haven surrounded by trees. Back down to track to end of forest then up The Wiss coming down by west ridge to Tibbie Shiels Inn. Sun shone all day - great walk.SS21/04/2018
From the cattle grid near Windy House. Misty to start but cloud cleared on the descent. Then across the road to Turner Cleuch Law.NormanW30/03/2018
From parking area by Loch of the Lowes. Easy going to top. Down to B709 near Windy House. If you keep out of the forest it is best to stay well north of Carsons CleuchAlan Moore30/11/2017
Parked opposite Glen Café on side of loch of Lownes - Southern Uplands Way (SUW)- Wester Rig - The Wiss (& trig) - Longmoor End - Captains Road to Cown Croft - crossed Murt Grain and Yoke Burn to Ward Law (with its deer fence and squared stone cairn) - Ramsey Knowe - Rigg Head - SUW - Track down to Riskenhope and then along shore of Loch of Lownes.briandavies29/04/2017
Parked at the high point of the B709 on the forestry entrance on the bend. Sat in the car for an hour waiting for the unforecast rain to stop, it never did. West along the forestry track, where another track came in from the right, straight up the windbreak. Bit of long grass / heather bashing and emerged in the mist right on the trig point. Descended too far to the south east and missed the track, didn't realise I was on the wrong track until I came to a cleared area and discovered my car was south of me.Owen B16/04/2017
Storm Barbara! Parked at NT279200. Climbed after Turner Cleuch Law. Ascended in a direct line from the telecoms tower to the summit taking advantage of low tree line area visible on south eastern slope. Returned via same route. All plantation encountered easily negotiated.raffemeister23/12/2016
From Hopehouse, via Thirlestane Hill. The OS map is horribly out of date: this approach runs through a huge young forest not on the map. It's still possible to follow an old ATV track through the christmas trees all the way to Ward Law, but it's hard going through lush vegetables. Onwards via Ramsey Knowe and Cowan's Croft is a lovely easy stroll, and on via the Captain's path to the Wiss. Returning via the Captain's path is awful through the forest (quagmire), but new forest roads in the Hopehouse glen give a fast descent via Thirlestanehope.Gill04/12/2016
From cattle grid on B709 following Turner Cleuch Law. Crossing easy fields and good sheep track almost to the ridge line. Fence to Trig. Cloud just skimming the top to spoil the view, 12 different species of fungi on such a short walk, 6 within 4m circle of the summit trig.N.Morters23/10/2016
Parked at Pt 297 and up via Altrieve and Moory Hass in drizzle and mist, which temporarily broke up on summit to allow some views. Back via Peat Law. Quad tracks lower down but rough trackless heather on the high ridges.Topographer5703/09/2016
From cattle grid on B709 at NT 2810 2091. Rough ground to start improving as you climb above Carson's Cleuch. Took me 43 minutes to reach the trig point on The Wiss.G4OBK (Phil)27/07/2016
From A708 via Tibbie Shielsm0jla23/05/2016
Parked near Windy Farm little inlet in road. Then just headed over to the peak. A bit boggy at start nothing major. Good views from trig. Could just see a part of loch in distance. Company: Solo.iandesbottes10/05/2016
Parking o/s Glen Cafe NT23773 20397, but Loch of the Lowes picnic area opposite is available if cafe is open. Quick 4.16 miles up and down late on a December afternoon after 36 hours of rain. Only disappointment was that I was within 200m of the summit of Nether Hill and did not realise it was a TUMP.mntainman01/12/2015
With: hb; Parked at N end of Loch of the Lowes and followed track to Crosscleuch then headed up the hill on a direct line to the Trigpoint. Returned by a similar route.Ian Baines15/10/2015

Climbed with Smudge after parking to the south of Hartleap. Then climb hillside keeping to the north of the burn.Dugswell202/10/2015
Revisit with Dugswell via NE approach.Smudge02/10/2015
2nd hill of 10 today on an alternative Southern Upland way route from St. Mary's loch to Innerleithen, climbing as a continuation from Nether Hill. Nobody in sight. Interesting vegetation on slopes. Nice views. Profiled around forest to gain access to forest ride then using forest tracks to ascend back to St. Mary's loch where I went back onto the Southern Upland way.Dazingdale14/05/2015

from bend in road took track west, then track heading east, then up along fire break then through trees to the top.robertphillips21/02/2015
From Tibbie Shiels by the forest edge/Wester Rig. We (well, I) decided to make a decent walk of it as return the same way seemed a little dull. So Peat Law, Altrieve Rig just a few landrover tracks that looked as though they had only been used once, to help the way. Gates at the foot of the rig were really welcome and gave access to the SUW and the lovely path alongside St Marys Loch. Cloud base mostly 2000-2400 ft but looked black down Moffat Water. In the end, I think my brother enjoyed our walk but would have just bagged The Wiss himselfpwheeler25/09/2014
Parked layby above Hartleap. Crossed farmland then found intermittent path leading up towards summit.AndrewFinnimore02/09/2014
