Sunset, star gazing walk from Blaenau Ffestiniog with Kelly. | paulh79 | 24/11/2023 |
Ascent from Blaenau Ffestiniog via North Top, descent via Manod Bach. Dry, clear with good visibility. Paths generally good, though interesting by the Manod Mawr quarry. Many paths not oft trod! | Cumbriancyclist | 13/09/2023 |
12.65 miles 2937ft walk ,start at A470 Blaenau Ffestiniog layby to Moel Farwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel Fras and Manod Mawr. | stephenbuda | 05/07/2023 |
Walked up from Blaenau, bit exciting using the quarry track to get to the top to the next one. The walk over to Penamnen is quiet boggy, but the old slate buildings are impressive. I didn't trust the footpath back down to BF would avoid the active quarry below so got a little lost on the tracks going down, but used arial view to find my way down. | andrewroberts | 26/06/2023 |

From Blaenau Ffestiniog station on the way to Manod Bach. | derrymark | 19/11/2022 |
Followed Nuttalls route 5.4 over Moel Penamnen, then Foel Fras to North top. From the North top follow the fence down steeply until it reaches the point at which it is below the steep slate. Contour around to the quarry road, then turn right past a little pond to the public right of way (there is a yellow arrow pointing the direction after walking along a short bit of road). Follow this up nearly to its highest point where a path leads off to the left up to the summit of Manod Mawr. Descend North (a path on the ground leads that way past a couple of cairns back to the quarry road). Turn left down the road and follow to the end where a disused level leads down to 2 small lakes. At the end turn right and then left by a wall down another disused level. Through a couple of gates and then choose a route either by footpaths or lanes back to the car park. 9.2 miles 2,380ft climbing for full circuit. | JulieB | 03/10/2022 |
Quite difficult coming from Manod Mawr North Top with the quarry, had to go South East and use a section of the quarry road to get to where I wanted to go. | Buckleymon | 05/09/2022 |
7.5 mile walk from Bethania, Blaenau Ffestiniog. Up old quarry incline from town to old quarry ruins then following a path to Llyn Y Manod. We followed the odd sheep track up to Manod Bach. No proper path. Descended same way, then walked along path by lake and onto track diagonally up the side of Manod Mawr eventually heading across to summit. The quarry was unsurprisingly very active (it was a Monday)so we headed back down to the lake then incline following a path past Llyn Du Bach and climbing steeply on not bad terrain to Manod Mawr North Top. This involves a lot of descent/ascent but it completely avoids the working quarry. We retraced our steps back to town. 880m ascent in sunny conditions. Great views all around. Afterwards we drove to Foel Offrwm and the Precipice walk. | DanTrig | 25/04/2022 |
Main reason for coming out here today was to visit the Huws top Tomen y Mur, but this a hill I've been meaning to revisit for several years so it was very enjoyable to take another wander up this way. | Twice Shy | 26/03/2022 |
6/8 (Moel Farlwyd/Moel Pennamnen/Foel-fras/Y Ro Wen/Manod Mawr North Top/Manod Mawr/Manod Bach/Ffrid yr Allt-Llwyd) | Fergalh | 20/03/2022 |
From Bethania, a round of Manod Mawr, Manod Mawr North top and Moel Penamnen. All straightforward, was told by truck driver I should not be on the quarry track approaching last top but he was OK about it. Need to follow it for about 500 metres really to get to decent ground for ascent. Descent down steeply to south and on to quarry tracks to LLechwed quarry and the road. | dickscroop | 11/01/2022 |

A beautiful day for a walk.

We started in Manod village and headed up past Llyn Manod to the quarry workings and then shortly after that we headed for the summit and then back down to the new quarry, down the road and back to the car. | greboicus | 26/09/2020 |

great views. be careful of the quarry | Aristotle Chip | 12/01/2018 |
A great walk from Cae Clyd car park. At Bron Manod, I eschewed the footpath in favour of the track leading up and over a bridge to some stone sheds, then followed nice dry ATV tracks across the fields, hopping over gates and then a last openable gate out onto the open hill. Up alongside a BWF, which I climbed on the way up, but there's a gate closer to Llyn y Manod, and a dry track linking to the nice track slanting up the hillside. Up a nice wide ridge onto the summit plateau, and an easy stroll thereafter to the top. Nice soft snow to make the climb most enjoyable. Good views. | Gill | 26/11/2017 |
From north top descending to quarry road and then east to disused tip and sw to summit. Too much activity in the quarry to risk a short cut. | jrj | 26/09/2017 |
THERE IS NO PARKING BEYOND THE BIG CAR PARK AT CAE CLYD, so park here, and avoid a twenty bzillion point turn near the end of the track. Public FPs to Llyn y Manod, then lovely diagonal track up and round hill to quarry due N of summit. S, steep at first then easier to summit. Low cloud so saw nothing. Onward to the north top. | Minto | 11/06/2017 |
With CH, KF, MH, in thick mist. Easy to park where the inclines come down in Bethania. Followed the fascinating inclines up to Graig-ddu Quarry, then things got interesting. Tried to find the track that emerges from the SW edge of the quarry, but the track we were on swung right round to a bulldozed junction near Llyn Pysgod. Eventually a phone GPS saved the day giving us a relatively straightforward bearing to the summit. Then tried to come straight down the W slope to the lake path. Not recommended - steep, rocky, laborious! | Mark Jackson | 30/05/2017 |

Up incline from Bethania in hot weather. | Wycombe Wanderer | 17/09/2016 |
From car park at Cae Clyd. RoWs to about 200m S of Llyn y Manod, before cutting E to well camouflaged sheep fold. Straight up hill from there, roughly following line of quartz. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08/manod-fawr-and-moel-siabod.html | Gayle | 15/08/2016 |
I parked at the quarry car park and used the footpath that starts behind the nearest machine shed on the right. Easy 4 pointer for SOTA | M0YDH | 27/05/2016 |
