This is the Nuttall in my 3rd edition book!KatyT12/05/2023
I didn't follow the stream as advised as the heather was too long and no path to follow, I retraced my steps back to the track and took a short walk to the top of Cyrniau Nod.Buckleymon15/08/2022
New barbed wire fence, climb old fence rather than new gate to be on correct side for summit cairn. A confident snow bunting spent about 10mins alongside me flying between fence posts 2 at a time.Nick Canute05/03/2022
The 7 listed high points from the head of Cwm Hirnant to Cyrniau Nod with Rufus. Parked at the top of the pass and used the vehicle track with brief heathery diversions to the high points. Returned along the track, 3 hours.jacobrichmond07/09/2020

Pole in cairn, a little sad it's not still got Nuttall status. We were en route to its successor on a grey cool damp day. Lots of Heather.Denise 24/11/2018

From summit of Bala road: Pen y Boncyn Trefeilw / Stac Rhos / Y Groes Fagl / Cyrniau Nod / Cefn Gwyntog. Then: Foel y Geifr / Trum y Gwragedd / Foel Goch. Sunny.Winterfloodian26/07/2018
Followed the Nuttall's route. Lovely sunny day with a nice cool breeze.Herbert Anchovy23/06/2018
From the west, left car on public road. Could have driven up to 660m but from experience advise against driving through lockable forestry gates. 600m cloudbase, higher views only intermittent. Nicked four signs on which the words Access Exclusion were clearer than that they only applied to three days in October 2017.Topographer5708/05/2018
An easy and surprisingly quick walk from the track starting at Foel-y-ddinas. You can drive to the track junction before Ystrad-y-groes and park there. Easy walking up the track almost to the top of the hill. A cairned path leads towards the fence, and then the short distance towards the summit. Splendid views of the Berwyns and the Arans.Gill19/04/2018
Full experience of lots of fresh deep snow to plough my way through today for my last Marilyn in Region 30.Alex C20/01/2018
No 4 on a 5 hill outing based on Nuttall 7.5. Good views, cloud brewing up, very cold.MichaelF24/11/2017
With Val. Good weather. Drove up Cwm Hirnant. Parked at top of hill at junction with forest type track. Followed track to a point north of Cyrniad Nod then a weak path to summit. Returned same route but with a couple of detours to tick a couple of Nuttalls.mike.hoult08/08/2017

a round of mainly Nuttalls from The Hirmant Pass, 7.5, solo, on a blustery dayLou11/06/2017
Walked the route in section 7.5 of the Nuttalls book. Foel Goch, Trum y Gwragedd, Foel y Geifr , Pen y Boncyn Trefeilw, Stac Rhos, Cefn Gwyntog, Cyrniau Nod, Y Groes Fagl. People call these the boring Berwyns but I don't agree. How many of the hundreds of thousands who climb Snowdon and Cader Idris each year would persevere with this walk. It's a real challenge and there are some good views if the weather holds. A very steep descent to Foel Goch reminded me how unfit I've become. Great views at the top, could see Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddy and Snowdon in the distance inbetween the snow showers. The summit of Trum y Gwragedd was tantalisingly 40 foot on the other side of a barb wire fence. I decided not to be a purist but as I walked on the guilt gnawed at me and, 200 metres later at a corner post, I decided to leave my backpack, cross over and go back to the summit. My gloves and trousers already had holes in them and I'm not sure I'd have risked it if I had been wearing new exptsharp21/03/2017

Solo walk during a weekend trip to Llangollen for a friend's Birthday. Aber Hirnant - Foel Cwm-Sian Llwyd - along ridge via all Nuttalls to Pen y Cerrig Duon - road - Foel y Geifr - north along ridge - steep descent by forest to road - road back to Aber Hirnant. A rather dull and heathery set of hills!AGWilliamson18/12/2016

Followed the Nuttalls route apart from Stac Rhos, Cefn Gwyntog, Cyrniau Nod all done as out and back from the track. Each with a handy cairn to indicate where to leave the track. Latter part of the day it poured with rain and cloud came down.axe.stephen28/05/2014
From top of Bwlch Hirnant on route to Y Groes Fagl. Losing my sense of humour at this stage! It was a long slog over bog, heather and bilberry to get here from Cefn Gwyntog. Gave up on following the stream in the end (too wet) and returned to the fence.ruthatlast26/05/2014
My 2nd hill of the day on an Epic walk from Llangynog to Llanuwchllyn, having first climbed the very steep Moel Dimoel. I followed a track gradually climbing the slopes of the Tanat valley with fantastic views of the waterfalls. I crossed one major stream and then headed North west over another, eventually following the Nant Llwyngwrgi and then having to veer North when i reached the fenceline as I was about 1/2 mile off ( i should have been following the stream further North). Summit has post in the middle.Dazingdale06/05/2014
Followed Nuttalls Western Berwyns walk with a few additions.rhalstead16/03/2014
MAINLY FOLLOWED NUTTALLS WALK 7.5 FOR THE WESTERN BERWYNS. PARKED AT THE FOOT OF THE HIRNANT PASS AND WENT STRAIGHT UP VERY STEEP FOEL GOCH, THEN EASY WALK ALONG THE RIDGE TO TRUM Y GWRAGEDD AND FOEL Y GEIFR. STEEP HEATHER DOWN TO TOP OF PASS THEN ALONG THE TRACK, POPPING OFF IT TO DO PEN Y BONCYN TREFEILW AND STAC RHOS. RETURNED TO TRACK BETWEEN ALL TOPS AND FOUND FAINT PATH OUT TO CEFN GWYNTOG. FOLLOWED FENCE TO CIRNIAU NOD AND FINISHED WITH THE EASY GROES FAGL. BACK THROUGH FOREST TO CAR - ANOTHER WARM SUNNY DAY OUT FROM BALA.BURGESS08/08/2013
From top of pass (12:30) cycled along forestry track (with detour to 666 point) to bend at 988285 (13:30) then walked along path to summit. Back to bike 14:00; car 14:35. Lovely day, though becoming hazy.dbb26/05/2013

As nuttall walk 7.5 after two failed attempts because of snow on deep heather and heavy rain with thick mist. The boring Berwyns proved to be problematic to us!mindlessflogger17/03/2012
Rode my mountain bike along the forestry road and went on foot to the top. Many quad bikes and motorbikes use the forestry road. An E reg BSA bantam was one!johnjennison18/09/2011
At least it was a dry day! After Cefn Gwyntog this is another hard slog through heather and bog. Stayed close to the stream but still hard work (and wet). Only redeeming moment was sighting a hen harrier.woodse02/07/2011
