Walk with Izzy visiting her at university. We started from Nant-y-moch Reservoir just after the pumping station at a little pull in near the track. We headed up this to Maesnant where we followed a faint track up the burn and then up to the summit of Plynlimon where we had some lunch. We then headed across to the 727 metre top marked by a cairn before circling round and heading down to Llyn Llygad. We paddled across the outflow and headed down the track to the car. We were lucky with the weather as it was mostly sunny with a fresh breeze. Plenty of wildlife about. Time taken with stops 2 hours 43 minutes for 5.69 miles and 1507 feet of ascent. | isabelle | 10/11/2023 |

It was a great walk, and there was a really slow incline. Once we got to the top, there was an amazing view of all the nearby lakes. We could even see all the way to the sea! | Spooderman | 16/08/2023 |

A pleasant set of hills, starting with Y Garn and moving on to Pumlumon Fawr, Pumlumon Fach, Pen Pumlumon Llygad-bychan, Pen Pumlumon Llygad-bychan East Top and Pen Pumlumon Arwystli. I extended the route to view the source of The Severn, which I found to be well worth the detour. I returned to the hills and descended into the valley to pick up the track at the delightful Llyn Llygad Rheidol reservoir. | oldbagger27 | 19/06/2023 |

Ascent of Pumlumon c50 years after attempt with Dad abandoned due to thick mist. | douglas_easton | 02/02/2023 |
Parked the van at Bryn y Beddau and took a good track up towards Pumlumon Fach, which gives easy access to Pumlumon Fawr. Then along the summit ridge path to its two East Tops and on to Pen Cerrig Tewion and Pen Pumlumon Arwystli. Still plenty of time in the day so went north to bag the summits of Carnfachbugeilyn and Pumlumon Cwmbiga. Returned via Bryn Cras and down to a wet path besides the Afon Hengwm. | summitter | 29/11/2022 |

Pumlumon Fawr, Pen Pumlumon Llygad-bychan, Pen Pumlumon Arwystli | keithouk | 21/08/2022 |
From just before the start of the track up to Llyn Llygad Rheidol. Walked up the track to where it crosses Maesnant, then headed up the obvious path. Went up Pumlumon Fawr then Pumlumon Fach, descended to Llyn Llygad Rheidol and took the track back to the car. Very hot day with clear blue skies and for me it was my first hill walk after a bout of Covid.I struggled, R (19) found it very easy. | clyoung | 14/08/2022 |
Despite the showers, enjoyed this easy hill. One and a half kilometres up the track with remains of mining activity. Same distance up the hill path. Great views over previous day’s hills and countryside. A few cairn circles at the top. With Gmac | elizyanne | 01/07/2022 |
Solo. From Eisteddfa-Gurgig. Walked north on a track on the west side of Afon Tarennig, which leads to some old mine workings. Then on good path to the summit of Pen Pumlumon Fawr. Misty. Went on to summit of Pen Pumlumon Llygad-bychan and back to Pen Pumlumon Fawr. Very misty. Descended the broad south ridge on the west side of the fence although the OS 1:25,000 map shows the right of way on the other side of the fence. It rained quite heavily. Near the start of a forest followed a track and path westwards to reach the summit of Y Garn, the rain easing off. Returned to the fence and joined a track down to Eisteddfa-Gurgig. | pwbellarby | 31/05/2022 |
From Y Garn after starting at Eisteddfa Gurig. Dropped down to Pumlumon Fach, then back up to the summit before going on to Pen Pumlumon Llygad-Bychan and Pen Pumlumon Arwystli. Returned back to the summit a third time before taking a difficult route through Dyll Faen forestry (felling, fallen trees and bog made this very hard work), then down to visit the two marvellous ring cairns along the road back to Ponterwyd. A brilliant day out. | thesweetcheat | 27/05/2022 |

As per Nuttalls book walk 11.1 but with shorter return option from final Hewitt, back nearly to previous Hewitt, then path along side of fence to stream then picked up good path down to end of Llyn Llygad Rheidol. Needed to walk a little way down stream to cross to track, after recent rainfall. Also start of ATV track by Wood up to first Hewitt a bit soggy until gained some higher ground. 10.3miles 2209ft climbing 4hrs 34 walking time for full circuit. | JulieB | 06/10/2021 |

During a long weekend in Wales with J, Shaky & Smithy. A sunny but breezy day. Paid the £5 at Eisteddfa Gurig into what amounted to an honesty bucket after debating whether to park in a layby further down the hill. Followed the E RoW to the summit of Pen Pumlumon Fawr for a good view, then onwards over the E top to Pen Pumlumon Arwystli. Then reversed the tops checking out the source of the Wye & descended the W RoW. I nipped out & back to Y Garn which is a nice top before cathcing the others up. Saturday night entertainment in Rhayader ensued... | NotReallyABagger | 29/09/2018 |

Went up track off south side of Nant-y-Moch to Llyn Rheidol and took sheep track up bluff between to summits. Turned right up to the top of Plunlumon Fach. Nice View from the top of Cardigan bay, lots of impressive cloud. (Had already climbed the peak on the left of the bluff but realised this wasn't Plunlumon Fach). Down to bottom of bluff and on up the path southerly and up onto Plunlumon Fawr. Had seen the low cloud shroud the peak from P. Fach and as I was ascending, after quick sarnie, cloud came in again. Pressed on and not far to P. Fawr. Cloud and wind at top. Much colder than Aberystwyth this morning. Back the same way. Highland cattle blocked the road home but got going eventually. Good afternoon. | stridingElephant | 01/10/2016 |

Last Welsh ancient county top and like all the others, magnificent. Parked in the (totally deserted) car park beside the dam and walked along the road beside Nant y Moch to Bryn y Beddau where a path starts south but quickly swings north west. An unmapped path heads up alongside Maesnant which we followed all the way to the summit. A direct route back to the car park looked possible - and was until we reached really difficult boggy terrain which slowed the last couple of miles greatly. Views from the summit are brilliant. | callumorr | 13/09/2015 |
from Maesnant, after BLm and Drosgol, straight up ridge in mist and drizzle, ignoring the good path on the N bank of the Maesnant burn, until I found it on the way down. | Thearlaichdubh | 12/09/2015 |

Property (Eisteddfa Fach) where track joins A44 unwelcoming to walkers, so had to make slight detour to west onto road. | RT1970 | 02/08/2015 |
Classic summit moment as I arrived very timely indeed as the crimson sun unexpectedly revealed itself through a gap in deep grey clouds just above the horizon. Full moon rising simultaneously in the opposite side of the sky to the east. | Alex C | 31/07/2015 |

Did the Nuttalls route from Nant y moch. No stile found and a path was there (at times) but did not appear to ascend Y Garn. It was tough ascent of Y Garn.
Suggest if you are going to do the 5 tops start at Eisteddfa Grig (near ELVIS stone) 798841. Go on path to the forest and then follow the forest around. Means doubling back from Y Garn but I am sure it will be easier. Once up on top there are paths along from each top. When the last top is reached go back to the penultimate top again and then contour round to take path (path from Eisteddfa Gurig to Pumlumon Fawr) back to the start. | johnjennison | 18/06/2015 |
ANOTHER GLORIOUS DAY WITH VIEWS FROM THE BEACONS TO SNOWDON. DROVE UP FROM BRECON BASE CAMP TO TOP OF PASS ON A44. CLEAR AND EASY PATH UP Y GARN VIA FOREST EDGE AND FOLLOWED FENCE UP ONTO PUMLUMON FAWR. OUT TO PUMLUMON FACH AND FOUND SHEEP TROD TO CUT OUT RE-ASCENT OF FAWR ON WAY OUT TO PUMLUMON LLYGAD BYCHAN AND PUMLUMON ARWYSTLI. EASY DESCENT ALONG FENCE TO CAR PARK. AN OUTSTANDING DAY. | BURGESS | 08/06/2015 |

Started center Ponterwyd. Headed East along A44 to B4343 junction where footpath heads North East through fields (boggy section) before ascending to meet East of forest (moderate to heavy cloud, strong winds and rain). Followed footpath to Pumlumon Fawr for lunch (nice shelters there!). Heading back across the style and East to summit Pen Pumlumon Llygad-bychan and Pen Pumlumon Arwystli. Descended from Pen Pumlumon Arwystli along foothpath headed North and then East across VERY boggy section, keeping to the South of the stream until eventually reaching a track, closely followed by the Nant-y-moch Reservoir. Followed track and road back South to centre of Ponterwyd. | Judgey94 | 05/06/2015 |
Ascent of Pumlumon’s five Nuttalls with my sons (aged 8yrs & 14yrs) from Eisteddfa Gurig. Cloudy and windy on ascent of the first four peaks, very much so on first summit Y Garn. Cloud clearing off Pen Pumlumon Fawr on approach. Quick descent to Pumlumon Fach, re-ascent of Pumlumon Fawr before following ridge to Pen Pumlumon Llygad-bychan. Sun came out on traverse to fifth Nuttall Pen Pumlumon Arwystli, though wind remained strong. Returned to below Pen Pumlumon Llygad-bychan, following fence above source of river Wye and down to join track at metrological station. Followed track back down to Eisteddfa Gurig. | VirtualMountain | 26/05/2015 |

Some good walking high up, impressive views of how big the Wye Valley becomes so quickly...but from Eisteddfa Gurig extortionate parking fees, a walk through ranch style farming and the valleys being taken over by petrolheads every 3 wks means in future I'll approach the way I've used on previous occasions, from Nant-y-Moch. From this side there is a cwm with a real mountain feel, too. | pwheeler | 05/05/2014 |
With Clare, our penultimate peak having set off from Maesnant and walked over the hills on northernside of of Afon Hengwm and most of the ones on approach to this summit. Very windy, thankful for the spiral shaped wind shelter. | alwaysinshorts | 19/04/2014 |

Low cloud at the start of the walk but it gradually cleared to give a fine day with a cold wind. Short period of hill fog in the afternoon. Surprisingly dry underfoot despite the wettest winter on record. Very few people out as it was the last day of the six nations tournament. | axe.stephen | 15/03/2014 |

Circuit with Y Garn and the Pen Pumlumons from the Nant-y-Moch Reservoir, in a gale that made it hard to even stand still. The upper slopes are easy and this is a nice summit with views befitting its 'highest for miles around' status. | poppiesrara | 02/05/2011 |

Easy drive up from Brecon to the Nant-y-moch Reservoir, parking by the east shore. A broad cart track skirts round Pumlumon Fach, emerging at Llyn Llygad Rheidol. Then it is simply a case of taking any of the many routes up the very steep hillside towards the summit of Pumlumon Fach (Nuttall). The pull this far left me gasping, and there was more to come before emerging at the trig point atop Plynlimon. Stunning views down towards the Pembrokeshire Coast, though not enhanced to the south-east by the wind-farms. | peter4lc | 05/09/2004 |
