Parked at small car park near just off hirwaun road at end of beacons reservoir, lovely walk past reservoir then up hillside onto ridge, no visible path up hill until ridge, follow ridge to summit, across to trig, return on same path all the way to stream crossing and through short section of woods back to car park 140minsTribal2er16/02/2023
Start @ Storey Arms Car Park, cross road and go up & back to Y Gyrn, follow Beacons Way to Fan Frynych via Craig Cerrig-gleisiad, turn back to rejoin Beacons Way heading down to Fan Llia before doubling back once again this time joining the Cambrian Way and then a track to Fan Fawr, quickly bag the Trig Point near Fan Fawr before heading back down to start point.lboutside28/01/2023

Solo from Craig Cerrig-gleisiad. Dreary trek across moorland, thankfully dry underfoot. Mist initially but soon cleared making navigation straightforward. Direct ascent of north face of Fan Fawr on grass (very steep), descent via contouring path back to the moor. Erosion on the steep uppermost part of the path made for one or two awkward moments on the descent. Lovely views to the west and not another soul in sight or sound.forsterfamily702/09/2022

Fan Fawr and Fan Llia walk, parked at the Pont ar Daf car park. Not the most stunning scenery, and a bit boggy, but it benefits from a much lower number of people than adjacent Pen Y Fan, and there's a very nice cliffside walk on the Beacons Way up Craig y Fro.JazDisney22/08/2021

Early morning hike from the lay-by at GR971 222, up the steep incline to Craig Cerrig-gleisiad and across the boggy moorland before another steep incline up Fan Fawr. Then returned by heading directly to The Storey Arms and following the Taff trail back. Gave my feet a refreshing dip in Afon Tarell before a final brief incline back to my car at the lay-by. From the car park at the southwest corner of the Beacons Reservoir, south a short distance along the A4059, then northwest on the path which runs up the hillside and then around the edge of the escarpment, to the summit cairn.Mariana Trench20/09/2020
Parked in uncrowded layby 1/2 Km west of Storey Arms Centre as car park there over flowing along roadside verge. Seems odd that people planning to haul themselves up to Cribyn can’t manage a few extra yards to park properly. Anyway, I beat a path straight up to summit from Storey Arms, then turned north west to skirt river feeding resevoir. South along Beacons Way brought me to Fan Dringarth and then Fan Llia. North, back along Beacons Way, I detoured briefly to the white trig of Fan Frynych, and then on round to Craig Cerrig-gleisaid. Detour worth it for great views of the crags and Cribyn and Pen y Fan. Continued along Beacons Way to complete this circuit. Sunny, but very windy day.Pete West18/09/2020

Struck off using the compass and vague tracks across the sandy moor from Craig Cerrig-gleisiad. The gradually-changing perspectives of the Beacons were a feature. The vast bulk of Fan Fawr loomed ahead like a wall, and the ascent (no path) was a grind. Was able to rest and enjoy the morning sunshine, watching wild horses which had appeared near the summit, only to disappear into thin air. I saw them later, much lower down, having apparently negotiated the narrow rocky path. Descended to Storey Arms.peter4lc06/07/2003

Heavy snow in S. Wales, a youth gp’s leaders cancelled for h & s reasons so I got the place in the b and b. I got asked in Brecon on Friday evening ‘where is the place for snowboarding’. I suggested the Storey Arms. I started my ascent from there- a slog but in the snow with blue skies above it was great. Continued over Fan Frynich, down to the A470, and over Y Gyrn, a Nuttalls’ summit to complete a walk on a fabulous day. Just hope those snowboarders weren’t expecting a beer at the Storey Arms!pwheeler04/03/1995
