Parked at 923027 - walked in across boggy ground then ascended - summit is slightly hidden away to south of main trackwychwood19/04/2019
Walked from car park, nice walk but lots of people on dirt bikes, w/ Pete + Joepenbet24/02/2019
From the east, no safe parking on road corner, paaked 200m to the south then a terribly overgrown short cut path to the main path to the summit. Fine views of Beacons despite the failing light.Topographer5730/09/2018
Family walk, started from Rhigos mountain road car parkphilwhit25/08/2018
Parked at the viewpoint carpark on A4061, followed the path adjacent to road and then upwards towards cliffs. Continued along stony track until I reached the second stone way marker (Thanks Jim.r) and then turned left to reach trig point. Pleasantly surprised to spend some time watching a Peregrine pair flying out from the cliff face on the way back down.Gerry the Ranger05/07/2018
On a cycling trip through Wales, following NCR 47, so took the very slight detour to the trig point/summit. NCR 47 gate was illegally padlocked at GR SS 8505 9940. Had to lift bike over gate.tsharp14/06/2018
Parked opposite the wind farm entrance, by the cycle track. Forgot the map, but Hill-bagging came to the rescue on my mobile. A nice path follows the outside of the forestry fence, above the bog, relatively undamaged by trail bikes except a couple of wet sections (I do hope the last ones there got horribly stuck, serves them right). This path joins the nice track heading along the edge of the hill with excellent views. The turn off to the summit and trig is obvious, marked by a fake standing stone. One of the better hills in the Valleys, of which, I am pleased to say, this is my last.Gill23/02/2018
Parked in a forestry carpark and followed the forest tracks up. easy walk but was soaked by the end and a trig summitjmistry8620/01/2018

Big wind farm development here on cycle way to S - best to approach from layby which has pretty much the same view as from the summit.twg2730/11/2017

Continuation on from the Rhondda Cynon Taff summit, lots of incredibly bright green moss about! Maisie's 200th English / Welsh summit.DanMaisieBex14/10/2017
From viewpoint car park at SN927031. Path follows road, and then skirts top of cliffs (wet in places), and joins a stony track through the wood. At the second stone way mark head into the woods to find the most unimpressive 600m 'peak' in Wales (trig point is behind a tree, on the edge of a clearing). Views from the edge of the forest are good, but much the same as from the car park.jim.r28/09/2017
Standard route from the layby in rather damp, claggy weather. Very odd summit for a Simm - quite flat topped, surrounded by conifers and what looks like a small car park. Returned via the Rhonda top. With M and X.Herbert Anchovy04/09/2017
Three mile county top walk from the lay by on the A4061 Hirwaun to Treherbert road, around an hour for the walk and theres a snack van still working in the lay by.WAYNE ROWLETT18/08/2017
With: hb; Walked from carpark on mountain road at SN927031. The path along edge is badly eroded by trail bikes. Trigpoint by open space amongst trees.Ian Baines28/08/2016
Craig y Llyn from SN 92689 03092ronaldo33304/06/2016
From the picnic site on the A4061. The construction of 63 wind turbines has taken over the cycle route to the top. The top itself appears to be in a security compound complete with automated scary message. The trig point is just outside. Glad we did it on a Sunday, probably very busy in the week.Newton Maximus08/05/2016
Started from viewing point layby on A4061 (SN92657 03094) following Coed Morgannwg Way east turning south at marker stone near Carn Fach. Trig and summit approx 100m on west side of track, but almost totally obscured from track by temporary works depot. Back tracked to fire break before marker stone and returned to layby picking up bonus bag of Rhondda Cynon Taff (C), Craig y Llyn (boundary)on way back to laybySteveSmith12/04/2016

First top on a Marilyn bagging day- straightforward route from top of pass car park via trackCas-gwent15/03/2016
From A4061 at 923027 followed national cycle route 47 west, which is currently a wind farm construction road, no fun at all. After the trig pillar, which has no views, returned on the Sky line path that runs parallel along the escarpment and has marvelous views. Don't cross the bog on the right of way back to the parking area, but continue to the bend in the main road, which is much drier.mindlessflogger13/03/2016
Will pick a better route next time - got knee deep in a bog.mike.hartley18/02/2016
Straightforward from the top of the pass. But the track marked with diamonds from the road is hardly visible and extremely wet through the bog. The footpath is the better option.jenx18/11/2015
With Jenx. Parked at the 923027 by the celebrated No Parking sign. The FP though across the moor is dreadfully overgrown and wetted out. Better to walk up the road to the trail at 922029and follow this to beginning of track at 916031. Followed all way to the right angle into forest and trig behind young spruce.nordicstar18/11/2015

Walked up from car park on A4061, a bit soggy at the start then a straightforward stroll up and along the path (great views to the North) before left turn into the clearing where the trig point was hiding behind a tree.mapple01/09/2015

Spur of the moment decision to take in Craig y Llyn on the return from St Davids. Good decision. The car park on A4061 currently not in use, but we could still park on some waste ground further down. Easy walk to the summit where there are some wind turbines being constructed. Great views to the north.callumorr27/05/2015
Parked next to the No Parking sign one entry up and walked out and back on main track. Plenty signs saying no entry to unauthorised personnel and just as many indicating you are allowed to be there! Looks like 30 plus turbines being built.SS15/03/2015

Plenty of parking options to east along A4061. We parked at entrance to the new wind farm site at SN921025. Kind chap at site security office let Jacqdaw use his loo. Lots of good paths and tracks to summit, although felling and replanting means even current OS map is out of date. Fantastic views to north of large number of major Beacon's peaks from viewpoint just north of trig.Hillsidenick26/07/2013
Hot walk up from Treherbert, via Iron Age village. Some clearance to the north has opened out wonderful views of Y Mynydd Du, Fforest Fawr and the Central Beacons. Trig point in clearing - Bronze Age cairns to north and south.thesweetcheat31/05/2013
13 mile walk from Cwmdare, bagging Mynydd Bwlfa trig then walking along edge to summit of Hirwaun Common, down to A4061, up to Craig-Y-Llyn summit, then walked back along Coed Morgannwg Way back to Cwmdare. The summit isn't quite what you would expect from such a good shaped hill.DanTrig31/05/2013

Pleasant walk up from the Picnic Site at the cliff edge. Quite a bit of snow on the North Side of the Forest. Good views to all the main ranges of the Brecon Beacons. Snow line was over 800metres by the looks of it on the main Beacons.isabelle05/11/2012

From the car park at the cliff edge, we followed the fence up. Family walk with the children (though 3 year-old sometimes wanted to be carried)AlexanderHoward11/08/2012
Didn't get the ascent quite right- parked 250 m N of pt482 (SN922025) near the summit of the A4061. In cloudy wet weather I hurried up the cycle route, a very good track used by trucks, so bailed out to a firebreak- soggy but direct. As the cloud lifted a bit I walked to the escarpment over which the views to glacial lakes were impressive. Here there was a good path near to the escarpment which I used to get back- much better than the way up.pwheeler25/04/2012

Stupidly wet day - we nearly drowned! If you're coming up from the nearest point on the A4061 as we did, it's easiest to use the cycle trail through the woods. The long distance trail slightly further north runs through a very boggy field.wheresthepath02/10/2004

A County Top with a trig on top of it or two County Tops if you climb the hill from the East i.e West and Mid Glamorgan, or four County Tops if you include both the new and old County names! The trig sits in a forest clearing sharing its position with a small fenced in mast and two port-a-loos (must be planning for a small pop concert up here?).
