Run up from Quiet Side campsite. It was a misty mild morning with no breeze. It was a routine run to the National Trust sign. In stead of going through the gate I followed the track West eventually coming to a no access wood. To avoid the wood I headed North through a field on to the open fell. It was extremely steep through the woods and bracken. Once through the bracken it was easier. Summit was in mist and marked by a small cairn. I headed back East on the path which was a lot easier. I passed through some windswept and stunted conifers before descending steeply to the National Trust sign. Once on the road it was an easy slow run back to the campsite. Time taken 1 hour 45 minutes for 8 miles. I heard the Cuckoo. I saw a superb Red Squirrel and got close to it. I also saw the usual Skylarks and Pipits along with a pair of Bullfinches some Siskins and the commoner species. | isabelle | 31/05/2018 |

Parked at the start of the track by Brownrigg Farm. Climbed over the first stile (on the first bend) and turned right. Path contours the fields then makes a very gentle ascent .... hardly know that you are climbing .... before reaching the main track. Return along the main track shows this way to be much steeper. | moorsman | 21/06/2014 |
A fairly easy climb, up Great Mell Fell, and back. Some nice views on the way up but we couldn't see more than 10m at the top. Little Mell Fell was a piece of cake, for me anyway, as we started at The Hause. From the SE road junction. Follow track and take no notice of the sign 'Mell Fell' at 1st gate - end up thrashing through forest to the top. Carry on up the track for a few hundred metres - not sure where as thrashed through the forest myself | destaylor | 18/05/2008 |

a steepm pull up in the dark and fog - not really recommended since the bracken becomes unavoidable on a bering in the dark. Nice twinkly views from the top though | gigglejon | 01/11/2007 |

An unexpectedly good hill, at least when climbed by the path from Brownrigg; the first part up through the trees is nice and the twisted trees on the way up add interest. Good view. | Mark Jackson | 11/04/2006 |

Parked off the minor road next to the spring. Walked up into the woods where the ascent became very steep. This slackened off as the route went in and out of trees. Final part was over lessening slopes to a small cairn. | garyhoney | 30/06/2002 |

24 marilyns in 24 hours attempt solo unsupported with 2 pre-placed bikes / and provisions on road sections.
Mangaged just 18 marilyns. This was No 18 around 4 am after cycling around Ullswater under a full moon in the freezing cold. Totally done in now - with weird scary shadows of scattered gnarly trees and moonshadows playing havoc with my befuddled frozen mind. Then cycled back to Keswick to crawl into my tent at dawn to begin a long deep sleep but not before being greeted by the cheery farmer saying 'gosh you're up early'. | Chris Pearson | 28/03/2002 |
